Agree with most of Syns points on FA. Healing Flames is a great power and will be be central to your build.
From a strictly PvP point of view though I still think the DA has the edge because of its range a resistences and better mez protection.
Stone I've found pre-Granite to be a pretty weak set with only Rock Armour and Stone Skin giving any S&L mitigation until your can pick up Granite. Its a shame that Rock Armour isn't a resist and not a defence - the lower base values for Brutes compared to Tanks really has a negative effect on Stoners.Definately a powerset for the paitent.
I have come to appreciate Invul in PvE but haven't levelled one up high enough to comment on PvP. I should imagine that I will suffer a lot of the same problems that my Tanks will, i.e. toggle dropping and getting sapped of my end.
It would be interesting getting some more EA comments on PvP. I really like the sound of being resistent to repel effects and would love to see the faces of those smug Storm controllers or defenders as you run through their Hurricane and KO Blow them. Smash.

How will fire/fire brutes do solo ?
My defender certainly notice the usefulness of area attacks (tenebrous tentacles, nightfall) for being able to ever kill anything more than 1 enemy at once, but her 2 single attacks (dark blast, gloom) are pitiful, and i dont have a single slot in any of the 4 powers that does damage
I noticed the lack of any area damage for SS, so i started leaning towards fire/fire, as i want to keep the fire aura secondary.
SS has things to take out bigger single enemies with though (?) like bosses
How does fire/* do in this area ?
Im mainly playing my brute for solo, so i need to have an effective build for soloing, should i stick with SS/fire or do fire/fire instead ? (effective solo leveling in mind)

While you're fighting boses with fire you tend to find out you've killed the group around them

AS will knock down Elite Bosses at the early levels but not sure about the later levels when they have those AV-like triangles up. Have soloed a few in the last few days but can't honestly remember if AS knocked them down or not 
. Regardless, even if you did have status effects on your attacks they won't work the majority of the time anyway.
What I do if I know there is an EB in a mission is carry 6 Luck insps and pop them 3 at a time for the EB fight - so far they've run out of HP before I've run out of Luck .
You could rely on your powers, its possible to solo some of the AVs with a brute if you're careful. I use Dark Regen from my secondry to keep me alive for example

well i will be having both a self heal and a endurance recovery power at my disposal
The heal is pretty decent at my level 7 now, with no slots in it, i can see it being quite powerful with 3 heal and 3 recharge SOs in it
