Controller > Defender ?

Ok maybe i wasn't clear enough in what i was asking. At high level PvP lvl 50. Would it be worth playing a kinetic Defender compared to a kinetic controller or kinetic corrupter. I know their kin power is secondary and less potent. Does their Primary make up for the lack in secondary though? what do you think?
Noticeably you won't SEE a big difference really. Except maybe in the heals/end drain. Don't think the dmg buff would be much different of course this is just my speculations as I haven't actually got any numbers on it.

Nope. At lvl 50 a /kin controller will always be a better pick than a defender kin/. Corruptors are a bit better aswell - slighty higher damage and access to ice blast powers.
Assuming with the PSY epic for both...
Controllers get status protection, many status effects, defenders primaries as secondaries (yet almost as good), and almost as much damage as defenders when the enemy isn't mezzed - and WAY more damage when he is.
Defenders get defenders primaries, low damage blasts, and 2 holds (3 or 4 in some case - /elec, dark/ ).
You do the math.
There's some defenders combo that have good sinergy ; kin/elec comes to mind.
However, in most cases you can pick a controller and have greater results, assuming both builds and players behind are as good.
Rad/* defender < Mind/rad controller
Kin/* defender < Ice/kin controller
Emp/* defender < Ill/emp controller
The problem with defenders in pvp comes from the secondaries. The low burst damage make it hard to kill people fast enough before they react, and the perception shared by many that defender's secondaries plain suck doesn't help. With bad secondaries, a 20% loss in power isn't enough to compare to all the great status effects and extra damage on held target controllers get.
IMHO, Controllers are already the best hero AT when it comes to pvp even before epics. Factoring in epics, with status protection from PSY and psy damage (not often resisted), the balance between defenders and controllers seems to be worse.

True, alas I'm not one of em
Also had the pleasure of dueling a lvl 40 fire/kin corrupter in the arena & noticed his end drain is about as effective as mine which makes me more tempted to retire my defender from pvp
I've had some gret fun in Sirens, PFF seems to annoy stalkers to no end and they don't seem to like giving up either. I've stood there for quite some time before with the occasional /em newspaper as multiple stalkers try over and over to hit me.
Also bouncing them about the place is great too as Crystalwolf said. I keep the team bubbled and with the debuffs from dark blast I seem to survive fairly well.
Personally as a defender I can see where you are coming from but also see value in the defender specials: the reduced endurance costs once people start to get hurt and enhanced leadershp pool powers. Also there is the question of focus: if the controller is having to run the healing side, he isn't laying down control. Solo, the controllers have it by a mile, but defenders usefulness always seems to mne to accumulate the bigger the group is.

one villain even put on broadcast after me arriving for 5 mins: "they have an empath this is pointless"

I hate that when I'm on my Empath, ugh. <_<
I PvP a lot on her, usually in Sirens as that's where the main villainous incursion resides at the moment, and it's where my SG are the most active (or were two weeks back). A blown mobo as sadly shelved me for a while.
Defenders can be a defining roll in PvP, every single set (well... maybe not Trick Arrow :P) has some brilliant PvP powers. You just have to know how to use them.

PvP is playable as a defender although not in it's traditional team support role.

Depends on the defenders build, i play empath in pvp and do nothing other than play team support, villains often go after me but i am rarely killed
