Hi, i am new to this game, i have been trying out a few different chars, got a dom to 9 and i am enjoying it, but from some posts here it sounds like the dominator is underpowered? is it worth keeping my dominator and making it my main, or should i just give up on it and train up a MM or Cor or something? (Btw its plant/thorns)

If you enjoy playing your dominator, carry on (or should that be "carrion" ? )

There is nothing more frustrating to me, than playing an AT just because it can do more damage, or has better defense.

If it's your kinda thing, it'll be much more fun!

Yea i generaly like to choose via how fun they are, but i use to play world of warcraft and chose a char with low damage and stuff like that, it was fun to play the first 40 or so levels but in groups it started to get less and less fun to play, since i couldent do as much damage as everyone else, and was always slotted into the role of healer, which is boring as hell.

Dominators are difficult (especially solo) and tend to atract a lot of aggro and faceplant a lot. Many new players havn't learned how to control aggro and hate to get any debt, which puts them off dominators. I enjoy playing my dominator a huge amount though.

If I was to make any change to the AT I would give them Blaster level hp.

I really should do something about this signature.

Obviously you won't be able to outdo a corruptors damage, but being a support AT, you *shine* in groups, especially in later levels.

But you are saying your experience of groups in WoW was not much fun to play. The support you are giving to your team is incomparable, and plant dominators have the best set of mass AoE holds to boot IMO

Also you gotta remember you are a low level at the moment, once you start slotting for damage, I'm convinced your opinion will change.

Dominators IMO are late bloomers, just gotta be patient. alot of fun to play though. Your presence is really noticed in a team.

Once you get those SO's it all falls into place for a dominator, IMO anyway.

May not be doing the damage the rest of the team is doing, but you can lock down, hurt a bit, and build up that domination bar to hold the boss at the end

"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

While we may be a little light on damage, we certainly make a big difference in a team. After all, even without domination, I can quite happily keep a Hero/Archvillain held while my teeam beat on it.

At the risk of sounding like a stuck up elitist fangirl: people who say dominators are underpowered either aren't playing their dominator right, or are teaming with dominators who aren't playing their character right.

Not too odd considering so many still like to throw that whole "dominators are controllers" thing around.

Though I will admit some types of dominators bloom late and some combinations of sets are weaker than others. Plants is a -very- good set, I can't make a call on thorns but I've seen it dish out damage-a-plenty.

So to simply answer your question: dominators are not underpowered.

In my experience, the Plant set is excellent, not so hot at soloing missions, but absolutely superb in a team for locking enemys down. Only downside is that you tend to attract a fair amount of aggro in the process. I am really enjoying playing mine.
