Dark Blast or Assault Rifle?

Hellowie!

I have a level 14 Assault Rifle - Kinetics Corruptor called Roulette Dare, who I recently deleted. I am going to restart her when my freind Plasmarch returns from holiday (Grats again on the 50 Plas ). I just can't decided between:

1. Dark Blast - Cold Domination.

2. Assault Rifle - Cold Domination.

I was hoping someone could advise me on which would be a more effective choice. For both PvP and PvE (although I am almost completely PvE orientated).

Thanks in advance

Jazz.

depends on personal choice

Dark blast has some effects other than damage (immob/disorient) and does neg energy damage

AR is more resisted but is more accurate and does more basic damage

I have a dark/dark corruptor and a AR blaster and like both for different reasons

If you're looking to PvP I'd definitely take dark. AR has huge animation times, does smash/lethal damage and most of the damage it does deal is DoT, which isn't that hot for PvP.

Hellowie!

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to go with Assault Rifle, but I might make a Dark - * Corruptor as well

Thanks!

Jazz.

But most of the dark/* damage is also a DoT.

And it's damage output is small. While it IS possible to PvP with a dark/* set, you will need a team. Those attacks will provide -acc debuffs and some other effects. Just don't expect to deal damage.

PS. Did they fix cone AoE spells in PvP? Or do they still miss like crazy?

Agreed. I love my darkie, but she's crap at PvP. The dark primary is severely lacking in damage - Dark Blast is about average for a L1 power, Gloom is above average damage wise, but it's a DoT - so far, it's OK, but where most other sets get their third single target blast, you get Life Drain, which sucks, and your cones, while not awful, are only really effective when they hit multiple targets...

The cone immobilize is really good in PvE though.

And I'd REALLY like to know if the cone spells have finally been fixed in PvP... last time (and it was some time ago, mind you) I tried my darkie in a fight against a hero, I could not land a SINGLE cone spell... no fear (that's from the secondary dark set), no tentacles, no Night Fall...

what ya got sloted?

Most folks i know have 2 acc for PvP now tho i wonder at those who dont build or slot for PvP complaining. Not that you are or are you?? =3

Persoanly never have a prob as hero or villain and Sirens IS my home these days lol =)

Indulge me - what ya mean??

Hmm i concur. Without 2 Acc slotted you aint really gonna hit alot in pvp. It isn't down to cone range powers, its down to how you have them slotted

PS - My Dar/Dark Defemder does just fine in pvp in teams, i wouldnt expect him to do well solo, just as i wouldnt expect my dark/dark corrupter to do ewll solo

Several cone powers have had a bug that causes them to always miss moving targets, and I'm not sure if it's fixed yet.

If there was a bug it isnt there now. As i said i have no problems with cone range powers hitting, although i dont think i played my dark def or corr when the bug was around, have really only took them into sirens over the past few weeks.

Well...

Dark Blast in my opinion is a fantastic set, especially if you want to be (De)Buff/'Defender' orientated, as it has many useful debuffing powers.

You would be better with Assault rifle for a short while, where you were familiar with it, and would know the powers to choose.

Both of these sets are apparently very fun.

Both of these sets are equally evil.

It all depends on: If you want to be more uber, especially in the later lvls, then pick dark, but if you want to possibly look better, go with Assault Rifle.

Other things going for the Assault Rifle, are the RP friendlyness. Dark and Cold don't go together, as a superhero normally has one power, or two that are similar, eg Storm/Elec.
'Techno' moves go with anything.
eg: A robotics mastermind can have any secondary set, without feeling stupid, as the robots could be a gadget, and the power could be his real Power.

So Assault Rifle goes with anything.
Another way of solving this, if you have your heart on Dark, is to simply make your origin Technology.
But this would make it pretty necessary to have an armoured/metal/robotic costume, or at least bulky metal Gloves.

I'd personally go with Assault Rifle.

It could even be science origin; the villain may have conducted an experiment on himself to make him more powerful. THis would hit pretty dam well as dark/col is a damn powerful set what ever you want to do (you could have the -acc effectively stacking with the +def of cold and you can debuff the enemy and give them hell from range)

You know it makes sense! Personally, I'd take dark/cold. And, nowI probably will have to go roll one!

Hellowie!

I decided the easiest thing to do is to just amke a Dark - Cold Corruptor and an Assault Rifle - Kinetics Corruptor. That way I can play both and stop being so [censored] indecisive

Thanks for all this help!

Jazz.
