Certain AoE powers prevent AS?

I've noticed this in PvE (didn't try PvP yet with my stalker), and I'm sure you did too. Certain enemies cast PBAoE auras that interrupt your AS.

Now, if that aura deals damage, and I take it, it's OK. If that aura knocks me back, then I'm fine with it. But if that aura needs to do an accuracy check to see if I take damage or get knocked back, and FAILS that accuracy check (I don't get damaged or knocked back, the aura missed, like any normal attack), then why does it interrupt my AS?

Also, I THINK auras that cast a -acc debuff also interrupt AS. Finally (and this one's very silly), those green (blue) healing (end recovery) crystals you sometimes see in CoT missions... they ALSO interrupt AS (or any other interruptable spell for that matter).

Now, my question: WAI or a bug?

(If this is WAI, then I think I'll start looking for another MMORPG with devs who have a bit more sense)

You mean where they have enough sense to add a character class that has no weaknesses?

FYI An attack that requres a to hit roll an misses will not interupt AS, but a few powers combine to-hit effects with autohit effects tht do interupt AS.

A stalker already HAS weaknesses. A stalkers AS is about the only thing he's got, apart from hide (which ends on any attack or damage). A mere miss on an AS, and things can turn VERY ugly.

If an aura deals autohit damage, then I'm fine with it. I take damage, I get taken out of hide, I get interrupted. It's the status effects such as -acc that do NOT deal damage, but interrupt; that's what I'm complaining about.

It would seem to me, that the current system works like this: interrupt a spell cast (ANY spell cast, not just AS... same goes for s sniper shot for example) on ANY non-friendly status effect added. This includes positive effects, such as the healing effect I mentioned previously.

Finally, those auras seem to reset the status effect every moment (stop the effect, and start it again). So, even if I've already got a -acc on me, but I'm still hidden, I STILL can't AS.

As a comparison: let's say an enemy shoots me with something that does a debuff of some sort. I placate him, and I can AS him, even though the debuff's still there.

Now, if you want to argue about PvP here (I've read that auras are one way to defend against stalkers), then don't. I'm talking 'bout PvE!

Makes complete sense for me that things that are 'hitting' you interrupt AS.

I'll try to explain again.

Let's compare a damage dealing single target spell that also casts a debuff, and an aura that JUST casts a debuff. The spell, if it hits me, will interrupt an AS, sniper shot, or any other interruptable power. But after that, you are free to recast the AS, sniper shot, etc.; the debuff already affecting you won't stop you from doing that (although it might make you miss, deal less damage, etc.).

The same however, cannot be said for an aura that deals NO damage. You get a debuff, but even though you're already affected by it, you still can't cast that interruptable spell.

Soo in other words your talking about an aura that deals no damage but debuffs, and does it's 'hits' continuously what with it being an aura and all?

I still dont see the problem, very rarely are you going to come across this in pvp or in pve. Everything should have its weaknesses including AS.

ffs to stop a stalker just get a hot feet, or mudpots or something that is pbaoe, failing that tactics ;D or pop the inspires XD

btw only do that when i'm not in the zone XD

Very rarely? You mean those crazy teleporting Tsoo guys who cast a -acc around themselves are rare? Or those CoT ghosties? I must be very unlucky, cos I run into those in almost every CoT mission. And there are more, I'm sure.

Great, you obviously didn't read the thread, as I clearly stated that I'm NOT talking 'bout PvP.

Also, one more thing... I'm not really sure about that, but I think that even auras that need to pass an accuracy check and fail it will interrupt a power. Hard to spot it though, but I'm quite sure some knockback auras would not knock me back, but would prevent AS.

Well then, i've no idea why you think it such a game breaking thing. And yes i stand by saying its rare. I didnt have any problems with this on my stalker. And those "crazy teleporting tsoo" are called Sorcerors, havent you met enough of them to remember their names?

And yes knockback auras will interrupt AS, but i haven came across a knockback aura on a mob that i can think of other than hurricane that sorcerors have. Unless of course you are talking about repel etc in pvp? oh no thats right u arent talking about pvp.

I believe autohit damage dealing powers are all in the process of being changed so that the damage part no longer auto-hits. This is to help stalkers so that it doesn't auto-supress hide. However interupting AS is another matter. Is it not reasonable that my Chilling Embrace, which does no damage but slows you down should interupt your AS?

Maybe the devs would like you to think and adapt your tactics to suit different foes? For example you could use your second most powerful attack, which still does double damage if you are hidden, and use a couple of red inspirations? Or in PvP you could use an attack which detoggles, then placate, then AS. It's all about using your brain instead of doing the same old thing all the time.

With mobs that have AoE attacks - I'll use sorcerers as an example, they don't ALWAYS have that power on, like a player power, it has a use time and a recharge time.

A sorcered can be placated just like anything else, then a little patience combined with Hide and you watch as whirlwind drops - giving you an AS opportunity.

Yes there are a few that will rarely give you that opportunity, but stalkers are NOT scrappers and cannot charge at anything and everything in sight.

You might just need to slow things down and learn a little bit of patience and tactics to be a more successful Stalker.

IMHO a stalker in PvE is already VERY slow. At least when I compare him to my corruptor.

I do not have a problem when doing solo missions. I do them on the lowest difficulty, thus I never face more than one liutaenant. As you said, they do not have those auras on before an attack, so it's possible to take 'em down.

My grudge is when I team up with someone. One more person in a team means I will need to face bosses. And it's not possible to "scrape" a boss when he's at 100% HP. Heck, I have trouble finishing them off when they're after an AS. But what's worse, is that those aura using enemies show up in twos of threes. Placate doesn't work really... as mobs tend to see right through hide and keep on shooting... and even though my stalker's hard to hit, they DO hit me... being quite a lot of them.

I don't know... perhaps I'm doing something wrong. But even here, on the forums, people stated that a stalker in a team can only hide, AS, run and repeat. And this get's even harder with those auras. Sometimes in a team I feel completely, utterly useless.

Well, at least please fix the healing/endurance recovery crystals in CoT missions... I'd really like to see an explenation how THOSE prevent me from doing an AS.

I'm sorry but i feel this should be the last post i make on this thread after reading that post.

You want it easy against bosses? I'm sure the rest of the player base has grudges against bosses also, but i very much doubt they want it easy against them. Other than Bosses and higher the game can get very repetitive and baring. You want bosses to be as easy as minions? It aint going to happen.
On my stalker i find bosses VERY easy, this is because of power choices i have made for pvp, ie placate caltrops build up etc (which as i have seen are essencial for pve also). Elite bosses i find VREY hard, but not impossible.

I suggest you look at you play style and power choices before saying such as you have.

Same way they interrupt TP Foe, Snipe and all the other interruptible powers; they dissuade your concentration.

Aw Gods... I do NOT want them as easy as minions. But I CAN compare to how easy they are to defeat when I'm playing as a stalker and as a corruptor. As a corruptor, bosses are WAY easier than as a stalker.

As for builds, I got ALL the core stalker powers: build up, placate, defenses. And attacks. What ELSE should I get?

From now on if someone heals me, I'll say "Don't do that, you're breakig my concentration! I can't AS!"

I think it'll be a nice way to make people really confused, and to gain lots of debt too.

U can AS through most PBAOEs easily enough with the right def/approach only one I have found I cant is hurricane and then i use my ranged impale.

Stalkers are hard to solo early though but for that matter so are Dominators

If you find your stalker slow and frustrating maybe you are playing the wrong AT? I'm not desperatly fond of my Stalker, but many people love them and play them very successfully (I've been defeated by Stalk-obot in PvP).

I'm sorry Soul but if you are having that amount of problems in PvE with your stalker then it has to be your spec or style of play really. I find stalkers are brilliant and fast AT for both solo and team based PvE and I certainly dont rely just on AS for kills.

On Defiant I team up with other Stalkers like Grudge or Dark Figment and none of us use a stop and start AS tactic in PvE. After the initial AS's we have a tendency to easily wipe through mobs at Relentless level using all of our combat abilities not just AS. In fact I use Slash and Evicerate a hell of a lot more than AS and Id have to say I dont actually need AS to accomplish missions it just makes it easier and faster. I've not really noticed many issues with AS interrupt in PvE either but then again my spec does not make me singularly reliant on it either.
