Quick Precision Ranger Plug

Hey all blasters old and new, if you are on Union and are looking for a friendly group of players to help you understand why 8 man blaster teams are the best thing ever or just have questions about what powers to pick on your next level up, you could do worse than joining the Precision Rangers. We are an all blaster SG and we have members using every power set available so an answer will always be forthcoming to any questions, even ones you think are foolish

Oh and feel free to plug your own SG's here if you like. I am nice like that

Unfortunatly just been to the Uinion foroum and the rather impressive Precission Rangers thread has been deleted yet the GG one was kept. So we'll have to work longer and harder to make our chit-chat (post-count padding) back up there as a rival.

MJ

PS with the Rangers there is always someone on to chat to and give aid or advice nomatter what time of day.

RANGERS HO!!!

Yeah I noticed that, I guess the GG regulars all requested it or something, I can't see what is worth keeping in it that a new post by the same name wouldn't achieve but hey, thats just me

Yes I forgot to mention the different timezones players are in and stuff, thanks for reminding me Plus some like me work a crappy shift pattern so I am usually up all night but asleep all day

LOL no more Grumponaut yay

To all Blasters of Union

I would like to emphasise my fellow Comrade's comments. We recruit all levels, the only requirements are that you:

(1) Are a Blaster
(2) Play on Union
(3) Can have a good laugh and don't take yourself or the game too seriously

There is no selection process apart from this and we do ask that you put your char into the SG which you feel you will play mostly on; as spaces within the SG are limited.

If you require build advice - we can help
If you want to learn blaster tactics - we can help
If want to learn the basics of the game - we can help
If you want to PL - then you need to look elsewhere

We are also part of the 1AT Coalition and have access to players using the other ATs if you need help putting a team together.

We also have our own website: Precision Rangers website

where you can learn about our history and our members.

Post in this thread if you want to join

Right enough recruiting, off to bed for me, got work tomo meh..

I'd really much rather they were kept to their server forums.

I do not think it is inappropriate for a blaster SG to advertise on the blaster forum, apologies if you have taken offence

[edit]re-written my response to warengine as after re-reading it, I came off as troll-like and argumentative. Many apologies for the misunderstanding[/edit]

I didn't say it was inappropriate - I expressed a preference as to where I would like such postings to go. As to why, it's because it's of no interest to 50% of the people reading this forum - the same reason you're not supposed to plug sgs in General Discussion.

Hello Ranger folk,

quick request, i've been working through some options for respeccing my fire/dev blaster and i'd appreciate any comments

can't post the build from hero planner as i'm supposed to be working but i'll give you the basics

Current build

Fire primary - all powers except rain of fire. Inferno 3 slots damage and aim 2 slots recred.

devices secondary - web grenade default slot, Caltrops 2 slots damage, targetting drone 3 slotted to hit buff, cloaking device 1 slot end red and trip mine 2 slot damage.

Speed pool - hasten 6 slot recred and superspeed deafault slot.

Fitness pool - swift, 4 slotted health and six slotted stamina

Flight pool - hover 1slotted for flight speed

Leadership pool - assault, 1 slotted for end red

Fire mastery - Char 1 slotted for hold duration.

New plans

Slot attacks with 3 damage, 2 recred and one end red

lose caltrops and trip mine from devices (i really get no use out of these anymore although i appreciate some people like them)

drop speed pool in favour of leaping (for CJ and acrobatics)

drop the fitness pool in favour of medicine

add a couple more of the leadership powers

so in conclusion i'm moving away from the Glass cannon concept and looking at a more team based slightly less squishy approach (a plexiglass rifle if you will )

comments, suggestions and open abuse always welcome

We have a fire devices ranger; His name is Crossfire and I'm sure he'll be happy to help you dude. Just send him a PM.

Caltrops are a fantastic team weapon, I use them a lot and they have saved my bacon and my teams more than once... in high level teams (when Skd up to 50 trops still rock)

SJ is a good choice, much more effective and versatile than SS

Leadership pool is good, take assault and tactics, both will be VERY handy when it comes to PVP

Not sure on the fire primaries but I think that they might be an endurance burner, also how fast are the inherrant recharges? If you have a lot of attacks do you need to have them recharge that fast, I'm dropping a few attacks deliberately in order to develop my tactical side, so I need them to recharge fast with a stack of several attacks I don't know if you'll need em all 2 slotted, see if yu can end red instead. Acrobatics I haven't found that great, It doesn't stop mezzes just knock backs and when you've just recovered from mez hitting all those toggles is often easily forgotten. Mezz is a much bigger problem with crey etc but if you're up against nemesis then acrobatics may be worth having.

Thanks for the responses

to be honest i've never really found Caltrops that useful but i may keep them (i feel an evening on test coming on to work through some of this)

fire is as far as i am aware pretty hoggy on both end and recharge times,

however with the end reduce we are apparently getting and one endred in each attack i think i can offset the loss of stamina and keep plugging away. 2 recred should offset the loss of hasten and although i managed perfectly well without this (only respecced into after I5 around lvl 25) i'm leaning towards the idea that with damage reduced i can compensate with faster cycling attacks.

to be honest i'm loath to drop any attacks as i like the options i have now. fire breath plus fire ball for groups with fireblast and flares to take down the stragglers. Blazing bolt for single target snipes, Blaze for the panic mobin your face moments and of course the hilarity that is inferno

getting a lot of nemesis at the mo so knock back protection is useful, but i share your concerns about the number of toggles (thinking maybe binds or macros could offset this)

Hmm so much to think about and test, curse you work for interuppting my planning/testing time

Well here's my current shiny respecced build as of Wednesday, although I can't quite afford all the SOs until I can get someone to help with an influence transfer from GG.

Exported from version 1.5A of CoH Planner
http://joechott.com/coh

Archetype: Blaster
Primary Powers - Ranged : Ice Blast
Secondary Powers - Support : Devices

01 : Web Grenade recred(01)
01 : Ice Blast dam(01) dam(3) dam(3) endred(7) recred(7) recred(13)
02 : Ice Bolt dam(02) dam(5) dam(5) endred(15) recred(17) endred(17)
04 : Frost Breath dam(04)
06 : Caltrops recred(06)
08 : Freeze Ray hlddur(08) hlddur(9) hlddur(9) acc(13)
10 : Targeting Drone thtbuf(10) thtbuf(11) thtbuf(11) endred(15)
12 : Combat Jumping defbuf(12)
14 : Super Jump jmp(14)
16 : Swift runspd(16)
18 : Bitter Ice Blast dam(18) dam(19) dam(19) endred(21) endred(21) recred(25)
20 : Health hel(20)
22 : Stamina endrec(22) endrec(23) endrec(23)
24 : Smoke Grenade thtdbf(24) thtdbf(25) thtdbf(27) recred(27)
26 : Bitter Freeze Ray acc(26)
28 : Cloaking Device endred(28)

So no Hasten ( I ran out of end when using it anyway ). I have always used Caltrops. Smoke Grenades I added slots to because they are fun and a 20% accuracy debuff is pretty useful. I have some level 29 slots to spread out but I haven't decided where to put them, I'll use them when I have played a bit.

Caltrops is a life saver, but not as much as the freeze ray. I had problems soloing more than 3 freaks at once without using Caltrops to confuse them. The freeze ray could do with a little speeding up, currently I can perma-hold one enemy.

The main problem with this build is that I feel like I need another single target attack. Other than that, I'm missing much more than in I5, mainly because the bonus from my targeting drone has gone through the floor ( and I was only fighting on a Heroic mission ).
Any ideas on where to put my 2 slots?

Hmm, i'm assume frost breath is the cone attack (similar to fire breath for me) i'd problably stick 2 slts in their to lift the damage. I find using an AOE/cone opener is a good way of either thinning or seriously injuring a group

Yes, and with 3 dmg + a range enhance it will do some decent AOE damage.

I used Frost Breath a lot early on, but I tend not to use it now, that's why I didn't slot it. Before respeccing to this I ran a couple of missions to try and remember my playstyle. Maybe I should adjust to using it a bit more.

yeah that sounds similar to me, used fire breath loads in the early levels then forgot about it. decided to slot it up in later levels and suddenly discovered how useful it is

Hi Pyro, just a bit of advice for you to mull over.
With Caltrops I would suggest putting 3 slows in instead of damage, you will notice a difference, coupled with smoke grenade, It can hold the mobs in one place for you to unleash with your AoEs. Give it a try on test. One other thing is that I've not used hasten in my build and I really don't miss it.

If you need any help you are welcome to send me a PM

Regards, Crossfire

Okay, cheers for the headsup

thinking about it i'll probably keep caltrops and spec in smoke grenade (never used this before)

roll on home time - i've got some testing to do

Posted

I don't use smoke grenade myself but had it for a while and it does make a difference. Caltrops with 3 slows in make a massive impact on a mob, if you can also use web grenade to hold bosses on the trops it makes things a lot easier as they just stay on them for ages!!! without hasten though you won't be able to perma trop which is kinda fun. I've killed mobs with that!!! Make them run over trops for a few meters in an enclosed corridor... most amusing!!!
