Invention Sets

How often do they add recipes for specialized sets?

Are they better than just regular inventions, i.e. accuracy, damage, and so on?

Special Set suggestions:
Super strength classes(lvl5/lvl10/lvl15)
Same kind of idea for other powers as well. This idea might not go over well, but just a thought.

I14 PvP Sets (April 09)
I13 Recharge intensive pets, Accurate heal/debuff plus new holds and universal travel (Dec 08)
I11 Purples (very rare), plus taunt, endmod, KB, tothit (buff/debuff) and defence debuff sets (Nov 07)
I9 IOs launch (May 07)

I wouldn't be surpised if I16 had some new inventions, if not then I would expect them in I17.

One obvious 'hole' is Targted AOE, nuke type sets with no endrec, but more recharge.
(Similar to Eradication/Obliteration). Another 'hole' is accurate endmod (for sapper type powers)

Sets 'just' for a single attack type like SuperStrength are very unlikely. There would have to be so many variations added the system would be so dilute as to be unqorkable.

<edit>
One possible way round the last point would be to have sets just for a particular damage type. So a 'smashing' set woulkd go into SS, but also MA, Stone Melee, and things like energy blasts.

I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting there with the Super strength classes. If you clarify, maybe I can answer that.

As far as "Are sets better than just regular inventions?" The answer is "Yes."

Consider, at level 35, having two slots in a Ranged Attack.

You have a generic Accuracy and a generic Damage in there at the moment.

That's 36.7% Accuracy, and 36.7% Damage.

You replace those with a level 35 Thunderstrike Acc/Dam/Rech and a level 35 Ruin Acc/Dam/Rech.

You now have 36.7% Accuracy, 36.7% Damage, and 36.7% Recharge. (Maybe 36.8%, depending on roundoff.)

Without even using any Set Bonuses, you've added essentially an extra Recharge enhancement.

You can put five slots into a power and get better than seven "slots" of effect.

You're still limited to the Enhancement Diversification softcap (95%-ish) but you can put a lot more different things into a power.

If you pick the correct IO's, you don't even have to spend very much more money.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

For superstrength, I mean how they class heroes strength levels in comics. For example, the Hulk might be strength class 100, while Spiderman is strength class 10. Not all superstrength heroes have the same level. It would be something to differentiate tanks. Maybe like combat levels for scrappers, Batman is a great combatant, while the Falcon is a good combatant, but not at Batman's level.....and so on. Just a thought really, allows customization without really changing anything, except damage and such.

One way they could do this without being unbalancing is to have set bonuses with both pluses AND minuses. That way the pluses could be higher. So if I wanted to make Superman with insane damage and invulnerable to bullets, I could slot these new sets with awesome bonuses, but have to accept extreme weakness in specific situations as a counterbalance.

So imagine a melee set called Fists of Faust with these bonuses:

2) -10% recharge for all powers
3) -10% res and def to psi/negative energy
4) +20% smashing/lethal damage
5) -10% endurance recovery
6) +5% res and def to smashing/lethal, +5% max endurance, +10% max travel speed

The proc for this set would be:

10% chance for minor smashing damage UNLESS you have the whole set slotted, in which case the proc morphs into:

50% chance to cause superior smashing damage to your enemies, and 50% chance to inflict superior unresistable smashing damage upon yourself.

Awesome bonuses, but only if you accept the drawbacks.

No, a lvl 50 claws scrapper, and a lvl 50 claws scrapper are exactly the same. What makes them different is the pool powers, enhancements and etc. So I have kinda killed my own suggestion there, lol. Dammit. It was an attempt at using inventions as a way to differentiate heroes with the same powers in another way I guess. Ok, I give up..........

Purple sets for stuff like healing/resist/def/end mod/fear/etc, and please, include some posi def and dmg res bonuses (preferably +res all) for their 6 slot bonuses. As is right now the only purple set off the top of my head worth 6 slotting is coercive persuasion cause of the ranged def.
