Okay I hate to say it but that was hellish. Good raid but the lag was insane due to tinting.

I'll be the one who says it. We may need Raid Costumes again like the old Hami Raids with no capes. But... Generic color costume or something.

Side note, we had spawned another RWZ... That might have had something to do with it, that and coming out to play with all your friends so they could see your powers.

However, it was very lagilicious.

Nice raid tonight, y'all. However, Friar is right. The lag was atrocious. It took me a full three minutes just to bubble my team.

For next week's mothership raid, I'm going to have to mandate that everyone wear costumes sans capes, auras, and / or customized powers. We'll see if that helps any. Sorry.

riktikini time.

next week's theme.

less is more!

Yeah the lag was terrible. Cobalt and I were discussing what it might be, and although power customization comes to mind, it doesn't make much sense technically. It shouldn't be any harder to display a red fireball than a blue fireball.

Good raid though other than that

It was lagtastic. I don't know why; I leave that to you experts, but it was much more lag than the previous week when there were just as many people participating.

All the same, I'm glad I made it out for most of the raid (I left when the lag increased so I couldn't get much done.)

As several of us noted, our CPUs were no more tasked that usual. What was way up was the inbound net traffic. Way up. The way power customization works is that before every FX there an FX TINT command for the different colors. Consider all the player firing all sorts of powers, and each power comes with a new command. My outbound traffic was still very low (700s) but inbound was huge (25000). For comparison, the ITF spot of doom in the third mission pushes 20000. As players left the raid and the number of FX went down, it smoothed out alot to the point of being a normal raid at the end with inbound between 14-17k.

(For the record, I have a 12Mb/s line, so it wasnt a connection railing issue.)

From a software pespective I have a few thoeries on this.

1) The input processing buffer is too small. The artifact of this would be dropped effects and rubberbanding, which is not what is being seen. Frame rate is fine, and when I move its smooth. The mobs move smoothly as well.

2) The input processing task is given too much time/too high of a priority and other tasks are being shut out. The artifact of this would be the loss of other processing capacity (lost outbound information), which is what we are seeing. A side related problem would be that the entire processing task is given too small of a slice overall and the input processing is hogging it. Depends on the internal process scheduling.

3) SW/HW conflict. This is really low level, but if the HW/SW interface is wonky, there is great potential for lost information if the transmit and recieve from the HW isnt handled right. Im guessing alot of this is at the OS level with stock interfaces, and since everyone is getting hammered with this, its very unlikely.

So of the problems, it would appear from the surface that there is a task scheduling issue with the input/output queues and processing. Just my $0.02

I know that the color change is just that, but that was the main difference between last week's raid and this week's, so I figured it's worth a shot at eliminating that difference and see what happens. It's a process of elimination. If it works, great. If it doesn't, oh well. But something has to give, 'cause the lag last night was ridiculous.

Yeah, and what Net says makes some sense. It could be that there is additional overhead for each power maybe...

If we flash the Rikti they will leave faster? Or perhaps we can streak the Mothership.

I dont get lag and i dont get it in the ITF. Only time i did get lag was shortly after i15 and it was for about a week.

Shawn said it was due to me being on the west coast and having less packet loss?

shrugs.

I'm on the west coast. The lag was atrocious last night. And I had just upgraded to a Quad core and a 4850 1 gig video card. So it's not from sheer processing or lack of a good video card.

Same here.
I got 2 Dual Core 5060 Xeon CPUs, 12 GB Ram, Vista Ultimate and this ATI 4870 in my gaming rig, and a 16mb Comcast connection with a DD-WRT router.
So, in theory I should have been fine too..... But I wasn't.

During the raid, someone shouted out to switch to an "Pre-i16 Altered costume with no tints" so i did, and it instantly made an improvement. Not much of one, cause the tints of everyone else were still flying, but it helped.

I'm all for "Low Lag, No Aura, No Capes, No Tints" Costumes, But no WAY am I donning a Lord Apparition style Raid-kini.

It's okay, not everyone can look as good as I do in a speedo. It's a burden, sometimes.
