Watched them wipe at Ultimecia...was a little surprised some of them had never played the game before. You'd think you'd want people with experience with the game in question.
The first requirement would be someone who was willing to donate thier time to do this, everything else, like having played it before, would be secondary.

I realized after watching it for the past 6 days that I should be posting it here to spread the word! The week-long speed run marathon started July 17th and has earned over $41,000 in donations, streaming live 24/7 gaming. Commentators and players have been rotated in day in and day out to grind out all 11 of the main Final Fantasy games, starting with FF1 and ending with 12 (excluding 11, the MMO game). At various donation milestones they have shaved two heads and wrapped one guy up in duct tape!
They are currently playing Final Fantasy 8 after a grueling 30-hour speed run of FF9, with FF4 and FF10 after that. Due to some time and availability constraints they've had to run some of the games out of order
But, all this madness is for a very good cause. Every dollar donated directly benefits ACT Today, Autism Care and Treatment. Their projected goal of $20,000 was quickly shattered within the first two days and are now shooting for $50,000.
The Speed Gamers have been streaming video game marathons for over a year to raise money for various charities. In total they have raised over $32,000 dollars and played 11 past marathons, and have more than doubled their past donations on this single marathon. Visit their website at http://www.thespeedgamers.com/. Even if you don't like Final Fantasy, donate if you can. Every dollar helps. The Marathon ends Friday, July 24 at 6PM PST, so there isn't much time left!
Spread the word!
