Softcapping Willpower; Can it be done?
It is possible to soft cap to typed damage but you will be sacrificing a lot to get there. You'd be better off slotting for regeneration and recovery and typed defense.

What do you mean by "Soft cap to typed damage" and then saying it's better to go for "typed defense?"
Not my doing, but I saved it when someone else posted. And I forget who it was >.< Sorry. But yes, it can be done. This is what it would need:

All my characters
Typed Damage: The "energy" part of a "ranged, energy" attack.
Typed Defense: (Probably meant "Positional defense") The "ranged" part of a "ranged, energy" attack.
Game checks the types on the attack type (ie a fire melee attack might be 'fire, smashing, melee') and takes your top defense value. There's type (cold, fire, smashing) and positional (ranged, melee, aoe).
And considering that folks threw up fiery aura builds that were softcapped to S/L the other day, it HAS to be a resounding yes.
Made me realize that I had to completely rethink my new DM/WP brute build.
Be well, people of CoH.
It's possible yes but I'd rather aim for about 35% defense and end up with a build that is much more usable in every day situations. Better recovery, better regeneration, more max hp, a better attack chain; these are all things you sacrifice to get softcapped to all on a WP.
I've made a few /WP builds that had softcapped to at least S/L/E/N (can't recall if I softcapped them F/C...but less likely as it doesn't matter as much to me)...however, doing so always hurts one's recharge for better DPS chains. :/
Still working on some /WP builds myself to get what I want.
BrandX Future Staff Fighter
The BrandX Collection
Here's something that is pretty close to my current build. I pulled this off of somebody else several months ago, but it was the building block for what I have now and actually does have capped typed defense though you have to run a lot of toggles to get there.
Have fun!

Someone asked this a while ago, and I built this toon. Softcapped to all three positions (blank space if for the Glad 3% +def IO). The attack string is easy enough to pull off (GD>DA>SD>GC>DA). The only issue I've really seen is that it coughs up a lot of DPS to achieve this mainly due to suboptimal attack slotting (no space for Achilles' Heel proc).

Honestly, my advice to */WP scrappers is to simply get a decent chunk of defense (25-30%) with as much +hp as possible while focusing just as much on your attacks. What's the point of playing a Scrapper if you're not going to capitalize on the damage? You might as well just roll a tank.
I've heard some people say no, not at all. I've heard others say yes, to everything. Then I've hear some say just to E/NE/F/C damage. (as that's what Heightened Senses gives defense to)
Well, I want clarification. And the mathlete Scrapper boards HAVE to be the best place to ask. Can it be done, or not? Of course, I'd like a little more in the way of proof than a "yes," "no" or "maybe" =]
And if it wasn't implied, I mean SCRAPPER Willpower. Not the Tank rendition.
