This is about travel suppression...

Travel suppression makes sense, i cant argue that...

however, why does it cost the same amount of energy to, say, fly outside of battle at full speed as it does to fly at statue speed in battle? This goes for all of the suppressed travel powers...

If a powers speed (or usefulness) is lowered when in a fight, I think the same should be done to its endurance cost.

Why do this?
---you could then keep your travel power toggled on when in a fight and not have to worry about its end drain
---it balances the end cost vs usefulness

Game mechanics answer: Because we don't have a way to modify endurance cost like that. The closest thing we have is a self endurance drain as one of the power effects, but that would be unaffected by endurance reduction enhancements.

Roleplay answer: Because you're still trying to move at the unsuppressed speed, it's just that the combat is forcing you to move slower, for the same cost.

Is Endurance usage that big a deal any more? I used to slot End Redux in Flight, but I haven't had to do that for quite some time now. I rarely use any other travel power, but I thought Endurance usage was reduced for them as well.

This is why you hotkey your Travel and Combat Travel powers for quick, easy switching. I use G (Hover, Combat Jumping) and F (Fly, Super Jump). It's just a simple matter of paying attention, and hitting the button when needed. Soon enough, it'll become instinctive.

The coding, if you don't know:

/bind G "powexecname Hover"
/bind F "powexecname Fly"

The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)

im pretty sure they could make it so to endurance lowers when you attack...adding a tag to it just like the movement speed

and plus, its not really that its needed, but BaBs and Castle have been altering powers to put them more in line with others...kinda felt this fit in there

ive done this since day one...but i find it to be quite annoying anyway. i usually never use any travel power in a mission if i plan on fighting.

[/ QUOTE ]Actually, no. They can't. Which was the point of the first part of my post.

Each power has a number of statistics (one of which is Endurance Cost), and a list of effects. Each effect can be made to suppress (For example, Super Speed has a Scale 1.000 * Melee_SpeedRunning RunSpeed effect, which is suppressed for 4s when you activate an attack power), but the power statistics are static.

A few powers (such as Kinetics.Repel) have a self endurance drain as one of their effects. (Each time you hit an enemy with Repel, you lose 1 endurance) It would be possible to add such an effect to the travel powers, and make that effect suppress. However, the endurance drain effect could not be lowered by endurance reduction enhancements, nor by things like Conserve Power.

This is, of course, the wrong narrative. If they removed suppression, there would be no issue ;-)

Does that really make sense though? Why would being in a fight make you move slower? I mean, are you one of the nameless badguys in The Matrix and the enemies are using bullet time against you?

As far as the OPs suggestion goes, I'd rather they just get rid of suppression altogether. I never saw it as being a problem in PvE.

I dare them to remove suppression in PvE. It was easier leveling that way than it is with AE today, and that was before XP smoothing.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Jousting was slightly safer than just standing there trading punches, but it was quite a bit slower.

A common claim, but not my experience at the time. Now perhaps it was that I just don't have the twitch reflexes to make jousting work that way. I almost never avoided counterattacks using superspeed to control placement in a fight. PvP, where the opponents react at human speed, sure, I can see that (though I don't play PvP, so am only assuming). PvE, reacting at machine speed, not so much.

It wasn't so much twitch evasion as it was AI manipulation through precision. You could lock an entire mob in "melee mode" without them actually being close enough to attack. Once you learned the timing, you could keep hitting the forward/back keys practically in your sleep while you fired away risk free.
