The only multiples on mission end are if you have the Vanguard day job active after earning the badge. If you do, then you don't even have to do a Rikti mission to earn the merits. Not sure about the other questions, but I have been on teams where one person gets merits for mob kills and the others don't.

A larger team would cause larger spawns, and therefor moredefeated enemies. Since each defeated enemy has a 10%(?) chance to award a merit randomly to someone on the team, it is likely that more merits will be awarded to a large team than a small team. I am not sure if the per capita merits rewarded would be significantly higher on an 8-person team than a 4-person team though.

Under normal conditions, each Rikti has a 10% chance to drop merits (1 for a minion, 2 for a lieutenant and 3 for a boss) and they go to someone on the team.
On a ship raid, every Rikti defeated will drop a merit to everyone on the team if anyone on the team damaged it. The merits will pour down like rain. A sucky raid will get you 150-200. An outstanding raid will get you over 400.
