Anyone done a DM/Inv?

Was thinking of a DM/Inv scrapper...wondering if anyone has any experience with them?

... they were amazing pre-I4, and then gimpy for a while, and now very very good?

Invuln on its own as a set is *very* respectable now, and DM brings a ton more survivability to it with SL and TOF.

I has one, I likez it ok, I prefer more aoe-centric characters... but it tanks just fine?

Yes, there are, in fact, a few of us around these parts that have experienced he awesome that is the DM/Inv "Scranker".

It's a soild, if not spectacularly rugged build that treats you robust damage mitigation and better than average single-target damage. And that's just with your everyday run-of-the-mill SOs. Various IO's sets offer you a whole new level of awesome.

On a personal note, I build my DM/Invuln with the Fitness/Leaping/Fighting/Presence pools. Yes, that's right. I said Presence Pool. The reason being I wanted to stack fears to neuter boss level mobs. It's a heavy investment to be sure and I don't think it's for everyone. I wanted to "Tank" with my scrapper and the taunt/fear in the Presence pool help me achieve this. It's worthy to note that both fear and taunts sets offer some spectacular IO bonuses.

Additional "synergy" can be found amongnst the 2 sets. Dark Melee offers a frequently available heal to keep the green bar full while Dull Pain is recharging. DM will also provide stacking TOHitDeBuffs that assist with INV's typed defenses. You also get a moderate +End power in Dark Consumption to offset the lack of one in INV. Hell, with this combo and the right IO's, you should be able to solo various AVs/EBs and maybe even a Rikti Pylon.

The only "downside" that I can complain about is the overall lack of PBAoE/AoE damage. That said, you're still valuable on teams as an aggro mitigator/punching bag. If you're ok with NOT putting up the most orange numbers on any giving team then this build will suit you nicely.

It's unlikely anyone here will laugh at a honest attempt to build a toon. We're likely to tell you if it'll suck or not though. Rest assured that we'll also attempt to point you in the direction of less suck and offer advice where we can.

If I were you, I'd go and put a bid on for the Steadfast Protection 3% Def IO and the Performance Enhancer +End IO. All toons benefit from these but INV loves them even more.

No longer factually correct EvilRyu! The recent buffs to INV have made it a far "beefier" set. The OP will be fine in the late game vs. any potential challenge with decent +Def IO buffage and a well slotted Siphon Life. Soft capping your Res AND defense to S/L damage is nothing to sneeze at either. Dull Pain adds the equivilant of 30% resist to ALL types of damage when it's up. Willpower is a great set, of that there is no doubt, but don't sell invuln short.

When I saw the video of Nihilii soloing 6 AVs at the same time with his DB/Inv, I asked myself a similar question: I wonder how far the envelope could be pushed with a DM/Inv, which has similar if not better DPS, and a nice self heal besides?

I considered rolling one, but I'm pretty focused on my main character right now. I'm pretty sure that someday we'll see some pretty awesome feats accomplished with that combo by someone.

Quoting myself from another thread, because I'm lazy like that.

It's worth noting Aliana_Blue did better than me, on his/her DM/inv, taking out 7 AVs at once. Even better is, unlike mine, their build didn't use purples and they took on (in my opinion) harder AVs than I did.

[/ QUOTE ]

I firmly believe it'd be theorically possible for DM/Inv to take on 8 different devmade AVs at once.

My problem right now is tryin to come up with a compromise between getting as close to cap as I can on defenses and enough global recharge....when hasten is up that build has BARELY perma-dullpain...but since hasten isnt anywhere NEAR perma its not really gonna be perma

Was tempted to remove Combat jumping and put hover in its place...but I cant imagine hovering through all the fights....but it would be a nice vertical addition to my travel power. Yes I know about the temp travel powers....just speculating

Still tryin to tweek stuff and mess around. Been reading forums....really intriqued by this.

Now I really need to see that build...or have some expert look at the build I made and tell me the glaring mistakes I made.

I'm posting at my lunchbreak right now, so I don't have access to my stuff, but when I get home I'll dig Actin's build and post some food for thought. Just off the top of my head:

- She doesn't use Touch of Fear. The debuff is awesome for regular play, and it's a decent place for placing sets, but for AV-killing it doesn't help that much, because:
- Her global recharge is low. I can't recall how much exactly, but it is. Consider that the regular Smite -> Siphon -> Smite -> MG has a (small) gap in MG even with Hasten up. Without Hasten it's even worse, I can add Boxing in there and STILL have a gap.
- Her DPS is comparatively low. On the Pylon test she clocked in at a bit over 147 DPS IIRC.
- She depends a lot on Dark Consumption for functioning. This can be read two ways: With all the toggles and a tough build you will use a lot of end; also, Dark Consumption is really very dependable for regular play, and that's a huge leverage you can use.
- Most defense comes from a combination of Reactive Armor, Aegis, Obliterations and Kinetic Combat. KC is awesome. Gaussian's set is pretty "meh" for Soul Drain, you need to six slot to get as much "net" defense as a single Kinetic Combat (7.5%), it has no accuracy, and the proc is wasted in a long recharge click like that (the last's obviously IMO).
- I know there's room for improvement. Once I post the build you'll likely see it. That'll be later.

So you're saying you took out 7 AVs at once with a far-from-flawless build?...

Hand-picked AVs for S/L damage (heck, one of them was Chimera, bowboy is pretty useless), and no purples. It's a matter of managing risks; with a smaller margin for defense debuffs, and purples to increase recharge and recovery, you can probably push it further with some increased risk.

Things to note:

- As I said, no Touch of Fear. It's a good power with a fantastic debuff and a great place to place mule sets, but the build's tight enough as it is.
- Rectified Reticle: Learn to love it, 1.88% S/L defense for 2 slots.
- NO CONSERVE POWER. You have Dark Consumption, it beats the pants out of CP. More importantly, Basilisk's Gaze in Petrifying Gaze gives fantastic bonuses (2.5% E/N defense with only 2 slots!)
- Note the recharge. 42.5% not counting hasten, there's plenty of room for improvement.
- Similarly, look at S/L defense. Softcap (and a bit more) with a single enemy in range of invincibility.
- No travel power. Temp jetpacks ftw

What you can do? Purple in Midnight Grasp, purple in Shadow Maul, purple in boxing, you wouldn't be giving up that much and you'd get more recharge - great for more survivability with dull pain and siphon life, at the expense of some debuff buffer, and extra accuracy that can give you more freedom when it comes to complete powers with Kinetic Combats. PvP global +def IO. Not have that much defense debuff cushion and trade more S/L defense for recharge somewhere. There's probably more. Go. Load Mids'. Play.

There's just no pleasing you is there?
I tell you about someone that did what you're asking for... they give you a build and... still not happy.

You are however in luck because... Scrappers rock! They can solo just about anything, they can generate merits to make recipes that when bought and then sold on the market can easily net you between 50-100 mil.

No pimping necessary!

You wanna play a scrapper? Play a scrapper!
