Spines/dark farmer build

With the upcoming difficulty changes, I was thinking of turning my spines/dark into a more viable pure farmer.

I'm having trouble weighing defense again endurance and recharge - any thoughts on this build?

I'm prepared to spend ~600-700M inf.

I built for Melee defense only on my Spines/Fire and it has turned out great. As for your end worries, I use 1.56/s and rarely find myself needing to hit consume.

Here is what I did with your build. I'm sure I missed a few things that someone else might catch, but I think you'd find a lot more survivability with this setup. I also watched for your end use and it should be fine with Tough off. Impale is slotted with an Immob set that gives 4.38% Melee defense bonus. If you'd rather have damage, slot some Entropic Chaos in there to get yourself some more Endurance and rech bonuses.

Also, if you plan to turn him into a pure farmer, select an enemy that doesn't have any mez effects and run with Obsidian Shield off.

Thanks for the help.

I guess the focus on melee is right - I was mentally worried about the first opening strike (when a bunch of foes might be at range), but I guess that resistance + dark regen takes care of that, and everything afterwards is melee.

Any thoughts on Hasten? I've heard it argued that it's not really needed for AoE Spines, with Throw -&gt; Burst -&gt; Single target cleanup not really needing the super-recharge of, say, a DM scrapper with a single-target aV-killing focus. That said, I've never ever seen Hasten be a bad idea on a scrapper....

Here's mine, pretty much all end bonus and no defence but its fine for 6 man Dreck or 8man with some sort of buffer present, you could be much tougher if you slot for defence and are prepared to munch blues, but I just wanted an end to my end worries when IOs came out and it did the trick.
hasten is great if you can fit it in, more throw spines and spine burst with less single target filler cant be a bad thing, I couldn't fit it in though, maybe if your a pure MA farmer you could ditch SJ for it.

I hated the compromise on Impale, since the idea of further gimping my single-target damage made me fear having to finish off a boss or something. I played around with it and in exchange for giving up just a little bit of recharge and a little bit of defense, I got Impale slotted sensibly and kept those sweet, sweet Enfeebled Operation bonuses (yay Web Grenade!).

I also gave up a bit more defense by moving a slot from Weave to Throw Spines to get the recharge of Throw Spines right.

Last thing I haven't decided on is whether I should shift out the "Miracle: Heal" in Health for the "Chance for +end" proc in Dark Regen. You'd give up a bit of regen and recovery for the 20% chance at an end bonus every fight....

One other note is that with S/L defense as high as they are, the Ranged and AoE defense are "actually" 30% against S/L foes, which is nice.

The +end proc in dark regen is the most important IO you will slot, it you have ED capped end reduction in dark regen and fire it to recover health from the alpha while there are still plenty of foes around, on average you will get the heal for free gaining as much end as it costs which makes a HUGE difference.

Mainly on Virtue, but Heroes on all servers.

Speaking form experience with my Spines Dark (and I'll post my build below) the two things you need above all else is +Accuracy and extra defense.
The reality is you will be facing large mobs of minions, really, really quick, ie - lots of little hits coming at you constantly, and believe me they build up.
With the exception of a few enemy groups such as cimerorans, this will alos include a fair amount of ranged attacks, so even though you have beautiful Melee defense, they are going to whittle you down.
I'm also going to revisit what you mentioned about the balance between Recharge and Endurance, or to simplify

The things you should have happening/be thinking about are -
Accuracy AND Defense
Endurance OR Recharge

With all of this said, the things I'd recommend are bring Oprressive Gloom back in, drop Soul Transfer for it, after all, if you need Soul transfer, you've got the balance wrong. Now I used to hate soul Transfer, with a Passion, mainly because with only a single acc enhancement it never, ever hits, But, double or even triple that accuracy 9wiith global bonuses or extra enhancements) theres no reason it shouldn't stun a whole mob. A stunned mob can't hit you, the amount of defense you get from that is incredible.

the other thing is, don't chase extra recharge, you definitely don't need Hasten. the combined damage of Death shroud and Quills is already pretty impressive. And Spine Burst, Throw Spines &amp; ripper will do far more mob damage if you take the time to line them up. And do take your time, because you'll have the damage auras and OG affecting all around you while you do. The end result is you do MORE damage, and move through enemies quicker than spamming them when they pop. It will also help your Endurance management in a big way (the build you have does not have nearly enough End recovery for the recharge you have available)
So yeah, drop Hasten, Web Grenades and Soul Tranfer
Get Oppressive Gloom, Conserve Power, and, idk, Assault?
because frankly, everything else you have going on, is very beautiful indeed.

Anyway, I've babbled enough, below is the Spines/Dark farmer I use, it out paces the better slotted fire/kins I know, and is a whole lot of fun on the wall in cimerora, it was also cheap (theres a set of Armageddons planned to go in Spine Burst, mainly because of the proc, but the cost of everything else was less than 400mil)

and you're right about luinge, I really never use it,

But its worth noting the Enzymes have gone up in price, (a lot) recently, and my build ends up being very short on slots as it is. Very short. (I'd love the theft of essence for the heal for instance, but honestly don't use the heal much at all anyway), which means you might want to steal those slots from lunge for useelsewhere in the build

I also thought maybe you could slot enough LoTG in one set to get the accuracy you were getting from touch of the nictus elsewhere, which lets you put the theft of essence proc in dark regen....

Does Mid's treat Enzymes right? Something odd in the way they're described....

Well, Dark Regen is the games single best self-heal, but I honestly found myself falling down a lot more at the defense level you have there, whereas at 30% def I rarely have to use the heal at all.

but then that's speaking from experience, so your playstyle might make it different, so take it with a grain of salt

You're going want to shoot for over 20% to all positions. That much won't really help you.

Yeah I tried to fit in Energy Torrent.Not sure I'll need it tho, I'll level up her so I can see her survivability with just generic IOs then I can make the decision of going with Weave and more defense bonuses or keeping this build with E. Torrent.
