2 parts...

I currently have 2 issues that I am dealing with atm.

(1). I recently moved and my desk top (Vista 32) had sat around for about 45 days w/o use. When I finally got moved in, got mah internet service and hooked everything up, I got an error msg saying that my boot mngr was missing. No matter how many times I deleted/re-installed the OS, the boot mngr would still be missing. So I re-nstalled XP Pro. (2). But when I did my ethernet drivers were missing. Foolishly contacted microsoft and they told me I had to have the driver disk (which I don't have...grrr...) to re-install or take it to a computer wiz. B4 I do that and waste money on a potentially easy fix, should I just try to re-install the Vista and see if that fixes it? Thx in advance.

No harm in attempting to reinstall vista of course. However you posted us none of your logs so we could see what kind of hardware your dealing with. I assume you tried downloading your ethernet driver at wherever you had net to post this from and see if that would fix it? You really didnt provide us enough info to do much that you shouldnt have already know.

PS: Bumping your own thread is against the rules.

I don't know how to do this. Would you mind helping me with it?

The microsoft operator looked for me and said she couldn't find any, so that lead to this post.

Wasn't sure what you meant by this till I looked it up on the prohibited stuff. So if my post goes unanswered for a period of time, how do I go about asking it again? Post in another forum? Bumping was the only thing that got a reply. Thanks for the response however.

do you know your motherboard model? or computer model with manufacturer ( exp: Dell Model X or motherboard Y from X manufacturer)

With this we should be able to find you the drivers. depending how old the computer actually is of course.

What ElectroHawk said. You may have to open the case up if it's a Beige Box Special and read stuff on the motherboard. I would be attempting to install Vista, myself.

Don't worry about the thread bump. It's a catch 22 here, and they won't kill you for it. I'm going to start another thread about this so I don't pollute this one with cross topic, but it's fine, you waited 4 days.

Tease, I am with you 'bout forum rules, of course, but there are circumstances, and that whole other "don't post multiple threads about same topic" issue is also not allowed... so what's Hollows to have done? *shrugs shoulders*

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

<QR to the OP>

What Operating system did the system originally come with?
Did the system come with any reinstallation discs or a hidden restore partition?
That's what I would have used.

When you were originally trying to install the OS, were you including a full format or re-partition? Did you eventually re-partition and fully format when you installed XP? That might be what cleared up the boot problem.

Did you build the computer yourself?
If so, I would hope you saved the driver disc. If not, you might be able to check the Ethernet card (or chip) for a model number or serial number of some kind to be able to search for a driver that way.

If all that fails, network cards are still pretty cheap. Disable or remove the one you have, and just replace it.
