Which is better for Shields? Tanks or scraps?

I have a question kinda related to the topic at hand: Wouldn't the -def from Rage crashes be problematic for a Shield/SS Tank?

[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, Rage crash sucks (though much less than it used to). Not sure why it would be particularly problematic for a Shield tank. It sucks just fine on my Invunlerability/Super Strength, but I suppose I do have more resistance to back up my defense.

Note: The def debuff on Rage is set to not self stack, so if you activate Rage before or during the crash, the debuff will be eliminated. (The damage and endurance crashes are not prevented in this fashion.)

Thats more or less what I was thinking. It wouldn't be a rough as say a SS/SR Brute (assuming the -def from Rage crash is unresistable), but even if softcapped I imagined having your defenses cut in half for 10 seconds in the middle of a crowd would be a problem even with 35-40% S/L, 20-25% Elements resist, and no Dull Pain/Healing Flames/etc (assuming Tough and Tanker numbers).

Sounds like its not as big a deal as I imagined though. Reason I ask is my WM/Shield Brute is 45 and will be 50 soon. I enjoy Shield Charge so much I wanted to do it again. I've been debating between a Fire/Shield Scrapper or a Shield/* Tank. I'd like to go the Tank route since I have 3 Scrappers at 50 already, and my highest Tank is....4. The lower damage bothers me a bit Tankerside but SS would make up for some of that if the Rage crash is manageable.

Ahh, I did not know that. Well that certainly makes things much easier then. Thanks for the info.

Looks like I need more recharge, then. I JUST picked up Rage on my Invuln/SS.

For which AT Shield defense is better for--- depends on the attack set AND the player really. Shield with SOs only is ok, add IOs and it gets really good.

I have 2 lvl 50 Shield toons-- BS/ Shield scrap and Shield/ SS tank. Both have stood against LR in the STF w/o external buffs---> Only using temp powers and inspires. Granted when the scrapper did it, I did die quite a few times until the Blue and Red tower were down. Did I mention this was on an all scrapper STF?

Last time with the tank, we saw after we started that we had no buff toons nor single target heals. Just a slight overlook there, but my SG likes to do crazy team set-ups. So, watching my defense #'s, drop a few purps, activate OwtS and jump at LR. Once OwtS drops, toggle on the Wedding Band. Use greens, purps and oranges as necessary. Almost got me once or twice, but regen and greens got me back to full health, no problem really.

Lol sign up in the "all scrapper STF" thread.

Back on topic, can anyone tell me the dmg bonus of aao + rage with let's say 5 to 7around you? I forgot and I'm not near mids to check and that's been bugging me. I'm thinking with perma rage and saturated aao would make the shield charge foot stomp combo a serious hard hitter.

According to Mids, AAO is 10% buff for the first, 5.5% for each additional up to 10 total. So with 7 mobs around you + 80% from Rage you're looking at 128.5% damage buff. My Shield/SS build in Mids has lvl40 IOs with a full set of Obliteration in each of Shield Charge and Foot Stomp. They show as having a combined damage of 685. With double Rage (my build has Hasten) its 842.2.

[edit]

Forgot those numbers include the proc and +damage from other set bonuses. Sans the set bonuses and the proc's average damage its 634.6 for single Rage, and 791.9 for double.

LOL I'd already said I'd be an alternate, IF I'm not working & IF the character copy tool ever works before then. I even have a better build for said BS/ Shield planned. Guess I'll go check and see if the copy tool worked yet.....grrr patch on test that wasnt there this morning....

{Edit} As of 7:45 pm EST, some copy of my scrapper got to TEST. WOOHOO!
