If you drop the mission instead of going to him, you will never have him on your list.

I wish we could get rid of the Security Chiefs, Visit PvP Zone contact, and Hero Corps Representative in King's Row that easily. I just started a new character; and decided I would run old contact material for gits and shiggles after getting the AP temp travel power. I ran into the same brick wall on two separate contacts: all they would offer me after a point were Security Chiefs or street hunts in Perez Park. No thank'ee, back to the radio.

EvilGeko has a point. Since the AE we are getting an increasing number of players that don't know where other zones are. Thes missions that are annoying to us are now serving a purpose by introdicing these new players to parts of the game they didn't know existed. That's a good thing.

Even if you do choose to accept his missions - his entire arc is two hunt missions and two linked doors. The Hollows arc is actually four separate contact arcs, so the moment he says 'I have a friend for you' you can hit the door without even having a mini arc open.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

Exactly. Take those Security Chief missions. The only one that is slightly difficult at the early levels is the "Kill 10 CoT in Perez Park" that you get from level 5-9. I can see those being a pain for a low level player, but any vet should be able to knock those out. The Atlas SC mission is kill 5 hellions. IIRC the King's Row SC mission is kill 10 Skulls. These are not difficult missions, you kill less mobs and can do it on mobs lower than you would get even in a Heroic paper mission.

As for the street hunts in Perez. Half of those are free exp. Some of the contacts in Steel give you "Kill 10 Hellions." Well at the time you're level 10+ and there are mobs there that start at level 7.

Personally, I don't really understand folk's reluctance to do hunts or perhaps walk a few yards, but the devs have given you several repetitive, boring, exp grinds if that's what you want. But can we at least have the game let you know that there are other things that you can do other than that if you want.

For me the dislike is about personal preference. I don't like the Hollows so I don't go there. I feel the same about the PvP zones. I like hunt missions and even patrol missions.

The Security Chiefs that roadblocked me were CoT in Perez Park, and Clockwork in Boomtown. Those, I am not touching.

The clockwork in boomtown is free exp. I usually get that mission around level 12-13 and there are level 11-13 clockwork in small spawns in Boomtown. I could tell you how to get there, but I'd need to be in game to point out the directions. However, let's say that if you're coming into Boomtown facing away from the exit, you need to go diagonally to the left past the Council troops. You'll see the zone wall hit a 90 degree angle. Start looking for clockwork around there. Bring some blues and greens.

As for the CoT in Perez. If you go into Perez from Atlas, and go straight from the gate into the woods, there are spawns of 8-9 level CoT. Take a couple of greens and a couple of breakfrees and most characters can knock that one out.

Actually last night, I hit what MUST be a bug, or else a serious flaw in the mission selection process.

Merisel Velanzuela suggests I go to the Eden Security Chief. (Merisel is on the far west side of Brickstown, in case you've forgotten. Eden is on the far south side of Founders Falls.)

I suggest to her that she is smoking crack, why not give me a real mission instead? So I drop the mission.

And instantly in my nav bar is "defeat 35 Devouring Earth in Eden".

?!?! Say what?! Yeah so I bugged that. I was not planning on GOING there, at all, but wound up wandering through anyway and dying (it's embarrassing to die because of all the Swarms, you know?) and quitting.

So the mission selection setup might be borked for certain contacts, just... be aware of that.

That's not a bug. That's how Security Chief missions work. It's a two mission process. The mission you properly dropped was, "Talk to the Security Chief." Remember what happens when you drop a mission in a story arc? You get the next mission in that arc.

Likewise, when you drop the first mission in this very tiny mini-arc, you get the next mission in sequence. The proper thing to do is take the security chief mission, talk to him. Then drop the hunt that comes after.

Which is weird because that's unlike the other "go talk to this contact who may or may not have stuff to give you" missions. It's weird that they're not just outright droppable.

Thing was with that, is *the security chief was for a zone I wasn't anywhere near*, and I didn't feel like going there. Just like with Wincott, it operates visibly like everything else, but then just ... doesn't.

Maybe if you got a merit for doing them, people would like them better. Verbum sapienti satis.

Also note: to drop the hunt, you do not talk to the Chief; you talk to the original contact.

I did. That's what happened: I talked to the contact who was sending me TO the security chief. The mission autocompleted, and auto-started me on the security chief's mission.

[/ QUOTE ]Actually, that still sounds like all of the Security Chief missions I've ever run. As level X they want you to talk to Security Chief A, who will then send to you hunt Y of villain group Z.

No, you have to talk to the security chief first, then go back to the contact to drop the hunt.

Although with the particular hunt in question, you would probably be better off just doing the hunt.

The aforementioned Hunt CoT in PP and Hunt Clocks in Boomtown work exactly the same way.

If you get the Talk to Sec Chief mission from one of your 5-1- contacts (Linda Summers, for example) and drop it while standing there with Linda - the Hunt CoT mission automatically comes up.

EG has the correct sequence of what has to happen to actually drop these Security Chief missions.

Now that I think of it, the Hunt Outcasts in Steel Canyon and Hunt Skulls in KR work the same way, so it's not just for hazard zones.

Well I don't like it! *stamps foot*

And yeah I'll just be finishing the mission and heading back but knowing Marisel she'll be sending me out to Boomtown or the freaking Hollows anyway.

*prays to the devs to please please streamline contact story locations on hero side*
