Updater is like a snail for me also, always has been, I'm not aware of any way to speed it up, I have insane DL speeds yet the CoH updater has always been slow for me, figured it was the just the way it was since I'm a UK player, maybe it's something else.

What is your expected download completion time in hours? What is your typical download speed?
In the meantime, turn off any other draws on your bandwidth, torrents, streaming music or radio, other downloads, all unnecessary programs.
EDIT: If it's still a long time, then browse the forums for the guides for new players. This game is incredible, and there's a tonne to it.

Erm... I live in England. But I got the trial from the EU website?
Mine has always been slow man, nearly 5 years of updating, I'm on a 10mb connection and CoH updater is the only piece of software I own that runs at about 15-30kbs. I DL movies in minutes, MP3s in seconds.
To the OP, as said above, maybe you can speed it up but don't be put off, this game is awesome man, and well worth any wait you may have.

Yeah I really want to play it, I need to fill my summer, this game is cheap, nice graphics but not too extensive for my card... but this speed is just silly.
I find it hard to believe this hasn't been addressed before.
It's likely due to the fact that you're having to go internationally to get the data. I'm able to download the game at over 1 MB/second from here in the US.
(I still remember the days when 15-30 kb/s was considered a great speed 
)

[/ QUOTE ]The EU version (your account is apparently the US version, since you're on the US forums) might have mirror servers located in the EU, although their version is slightly different (at the very least, it's set to point to their servers and not the US ones... might be possible to change that by hand but not sure).

Leave your computer on if you can. If you have to shut it off, the updater will resume from where it was, so your progress will not be lost.

If you're trying for an EU trial would it not give you the EU forums? I'm just wondering whether it's true or not, and whether this might become a problem for you.

I'm giving all of characters stuff away to newbies so I can delete them.

I'm amused by the part where the connection issues on his end equate to a mass conspiracy to prevent people from playing the game...but me playing the game for six years equates to loser fanboy status.
Instead of working to resolve this issue with other players and Customer Support, make a mess on the forums and ragequit. Good show.
