Help with the anti-farmers farm

While I am not going to get into the whole morale issue of farming, I do want to address a few issues and present a possible solution. I would say the biggest complaint is that by using the ae for farming purposes it doesnt expose noobs to the rest of the game. They end up not knowing about their powers and how they interact with the critters. For the most part noobs will mostly learn from interacting with other players and those players teaching the noobs. Well what if someone created a "Farm" specifically for this purpose? While it wont be the best xp in the world or the best tickets it serves as a "Farm" but educates the noobs at the sametime?

I started toying with this idea before Positron layed down the ban hammer on farming missions. I had created a mission to train stalkers. I got lots of feedback, mostly that it was too hard for a solo stalker. I realized because I already knew the ins and outs of the game it would be too hard or too steep of a learning curve for a noob. So I removed the mission after Positrons post on the AE punishment for farming. In a another thread someone came up with the idea of a villain sewer team created from a mission. While it seemed nice it was hard to set this up with the limitations on the AE had in issue 14. So post issue 15 I created something similar to a sewer team. It works out ok and is a bit of a challenge for a lowbie team.

Now for my idea for training noobs with a farm. I created a custom group that contains all possible factions in the game. Minions, Lts, Bosses all in one big group. My idea is to pick some of the hugest maps in the game and pack it full of critters. Have a few hostages to rescue along the way, a few glowies to click, a few objects to destroy, a few ambushes and a few named bosses to defeat as well. The problem I have with setting this up is I dont know all the limitations on the AE system which is why I am coming here for help.

In a sense I was needing to know what are the biggest maps to choose from in the game. What the best level minimums to set so that I can get the maximum exposure to all critters in the game over the course of a 5 part arc with each missiong being a different level minimum? Who are all the elite bosses in CoH/CoV without PToD? Of the AVs in CoH/CoV which are the weakest to fight for a team for training purposes? Any suggestions on support allies to place in the mission as a hostage that would be good to help a team?

My goal in all of this is to create a 5 mission arc with huge maps, with enough variety so that you really cant say its a "Farm", give good exposure to all the factions in the game, give decent but not uber xp/tickets. I will try to add a story element to this as well. Hopefully this will bridge the gap between farmers and anti-farmers by being the best of both worlds.

Interesting idea.

The biggest map in the game, to my knowledge, is the outdoor Dreck map. It supports something like 120 regular spawn points and 95 additional battles, allies, or escorts, so it can really be packed full.

There is an arc that is intended to educate people about the AE system; you might want to run that to get ideas about how to use AE details to teach. There's so much in the game, though, that you'll probably have to limit what you focus on.

Also, I'm not sure using huge maps for all the missions is a good idea. A lot of the game takes place in offices, warehouses, and labs, so if you really want to educate new players about the game it seems like you should include exposure to them somehow.

I could see using the dreck map for this. Are there any other huge maps that you all can think of that are indoors and outdoors?

Solution: Stop inviting noobs to your farms guys. I sure don't, cuts into xp.

Dreck map and Troll caves are notoriously huge, i personally like the dreck map more for my mishs.

There is a variation of the old battle for TV map with carnival of shadows tents at the end that can be made into almost a sea of baddies.

Other then that, i can look through my sheets i got on the spawns when i get back home on wensday if you still need help with something like this.

Maybe if you stopped calling it a farm and started using the word tutorial.

Yeah. Don't call it a farm when it isn't. All that will do is cause it to drop like a stone on the listing due to 1-stars by annoyed players.

Qr - if this isnt a farm, and its for 'training noobs' then youll be running it wirh lvl 1-5s, maybe 1-10s, right? How is this supposed to train noobs to use their post-lvl 10 powers? By watching your lvl 50 fight, maybe?

At best, this spunds more like a way for noobs to quixkly see what high level mobs look like rathet than a trainer.

Or you xould just call it a farm.

Thetes another way for noobs to learn how to play. Its called playing tge game normally.

So far what I did was this, the first mission is has a minimum set for 15, second mission is set for 20, the 3rd mission is set for 35, the fourth mission is set for 45 and the final mission is set for 50. I did this so noobs can get a taste of all possible faction critters in the game. I added a few non-PToD elite bosses for flavor and a few AVs but these AVs are actually pet class and can be easily soloed by even an empathy defender with brawl.
