Just some random MM observations

You may or may not remember my recent post about the stupid powerful bot/ff character of mine. Well, as he gets nearer to the end of the line, the grind becomes more arduous, seemingly less rewarding, and all around boring.

So I've created a pair of new MM's. One Necro/Pain and one Thugs/Poison (who has a fairly clever concept if I do say so myself). It has reminded me how tough things are in the teens. My thugs fought through scrapyarders with three worthless punks and a sole enforcer. Demolitionists and Foremen tore us up with AoE until I learned there's nothing that can't be solved with enough debuffs and gang war. Thugs made it through the dockworkers strike, even Sea Witch without too much trouble.

The necro is having similar, although amplified, problems with scrapyarders. Without the debuffs (or the occasional gang war), zombies die too quickly to be healed in time. I'm about to give up and just paper/mayhem my way around the content for a bit.

In both cases, I'm finding the game a lot more fun and challenging, with more to do than just stand around and watch things die like with my bot/ff. In fact, there's things I can do to make things die faster! I see potential here that I didn't before. I'm tempted to shelf the bot/ff indefinitely and actually have one of these builds beat him to 50.

A final note: The thugs just hit level 26, introducing the bruiser, which, coupled with the fact that I'm out of scrapyarder arcs, makes the game a bit more like Duke Nukem on Sesame Street. I love this bruiser, I leave him on aggressive, command him to attack, and leave everything else on bodyguard mopping up what he knocks down. Life is great.

Zombies/Pain is a very annoying set pre-38 and worthwhile slotting.

SOmething else I've noticed about zombies, is that their tendency to scatter is slightly worse than other pet sets. And yes, Scrapyarders will mow through them do to the fact they have weaknesses to lethal and fire pre Pet Bonuses and World of Pain.

Stick with the set and you'll have an amazingly worthwhile pay off, especially once you IO it out. You'll basically be a steamroller once you reach the end of the road.

Seeing this makes me happy.

My bot/ff has always felt like a steamroller, albeit more so because of the pace it moves though. Nothing can stop me! That turtle may beat me to the finish line, but nothing can stop me from getting there!

As I said, the Thugs/Poison already feels much more like a nuclear powered steamroller with death rays and rockets. I wish playing my bot/ff had been this much fun.

I can't wait to get my necro/pain through this rut.

I like your aggressive bruiser tactic. This is the pet that you want to introduce himself to the room, as long as the room isn't TOO big. Having the aggro on him is a good alternative to tankermind. I did the same thing in particular situations; it also seems to keep the arsonist out of more trouble than he usually finds.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bruiser also has fury. Allowing him to take aggro should increase his damage output. It also works because when he takes damage, the other pets on defensive let loose the fireworks.

I do have to keep spamming the alkaloid on him for some fights.

Normal operation:
Target boss.
Click "Attack" command.
Target Bruiser.
Spam debuffs and heal.
Room's clean, move on.

Just wait until you get Noxious Gas. Then you'll be a nuclear powered steamroller with death rays and rockets and poison gas

Now, having played the single target slaughterhouse that is Thugs/Poison, you can imagine what a shock it was for me to go from that to Bots/FF.

Yes, you must feel like things are going terribly slow, but rest assured: You can't die! I walked away from my computer several times for EB fights, even Ice Mistral, and came back to a victory. It's pretty amazing to have your bots softcapped defense without even the single target bubbles or the IO auras.

I will admit, between force bolt, force bubble, and a patron AoE immobilize, you can position your enemies with relative ease for a burn patch from hell.

With my Masterminds, I generally take Captain Petrovich and Lt. Chalmers, with Lorenz Ansaldo for his badge missions. That lets me avoid Vince Dubrowski's Scrapyarder-fest.
