Okay, half the memory.

Looks like it does include a VGA connector on the card, and after looking at it on the BFG site I see that it also includes a low profile adapter, which would make it attractive to anyone running a computer with a slim case.

The only real con I see on the 250 GTS you linked is that it takes up two slots and the 9400 takes up one slot.

Well, one additional possible problem is that it requires a 450W PSU where the 9400 only requires 350W. Although, several major manufacturers computers have been known to ship with smaller PSU's than this. Even fairly recently.

Since I haven't seen any mention of what size PSU you have, it's pure conjecture on my part as to whether or not your PSU is beefy enough for either of these.

That is good to know, my power supply is 350 W so I guess I have to go with the 9400, so Tech Gurus will this be enough to run my monator at full power for COX? I know people said the 0800 could do it but will the 9400 do it?

Definitely a resounding "no" on that one. You need something with more kick.

Really will it not run things well?

[/ QUOTE ] That power supply probably provides enough total power for what you need. I say this, because my system with a 9600GT doesn't even reach 200W total power usage at maximum specs...

HOWEVER, it's NOT likely that it will be directed to where you need it. The power is split in several directions, to several devices, and there is a limit to what each wire can handle. You probably wont have enough Amps on any single cable to run the card at maximum specs.

The system I described above has a 750W power supply in it. A 350W wont be enough unless you are an electrical engineer that made your own. lol

It'll get you 60 FPS in Solitaire. Beyond that, you need something that's actually considered a gaming card. And I can't see the card on the link you posted, but I'd bet you're getting ripped off for the card, since it's Staples. A 9400 is worth about $40.

I can't afford to up great bloody everything, what will run on a 350 power supply?

Hm. 350 is a little light even for a 9400. And moreso if the power supply is a couple years old... Might wanna bump it up if possible.

The second digit of an Nvidia card is really important.. an 8800 or even 8600 at 256mb is going to perform much better than a 9400 at 512 mb.

The number system can be confusing. Basically. the first number is what series chronologically, so 7 series, 8 series, etc. The next number tells you how it compares to cards within the series
1,2 = very low end
3,4 = low end
5,6,7 = midrange
8,9 = high-end

Then the last two numbers are either 00 or 50. The 50 usually just means there was a small revision that did not warrant an entire new number. Now since the second digit only compares within a series, you will find that the high-end of a series will compare to the midrange of the next. So for instance 6800=7600, 7600>7300 therefore even though "6,800" is a smaller number than "7,300", a 6800 card is better.

Lastly, the suffixes go (roughly) GTX > GTS> Ultra > GT >GS > (nothing) > LE
I hope that helps!

I know shipping returns are normally a [censored], but Newegg is really good about taking care of their customers in that regard. I've never paid shipping for defective products I've returned to them. Not once. They'll even give you a shipping label for you to print out.

A 9600GT or 9800GT is exactly what you need, honestly. Nothing more, nothing less.
