Semi Random Framerate Drop
oh heck. where were we....I am thinking KR.
This wasn't lag though. This is just a complete drop of of framerate. When I lag I can still type push buttons. move the camera around. Just nothing responds to those attempts or I rubberband. This isn't lag.
That's not what I was thinking of. The datastream and the terminals have to have data updates on a semi-regular basis. I'm wondering if these framerate drops are coming at the same time as the AE terminals are getting updated data.
Of course, WE have no way of checking that, it's just a thought based on a small amount of knowledge.
Yes, I know I said laggy in my previous post. I've been thinking about this for a while and wondering if the AE updates are contributing to the lag. Since AE is cross server, cross faction and cross zone in posting the available missions.
You might try sending a PM to pohsyb asking about this.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Hmm. I could check netgraph. It seems random though. I can be in there for a while and have no problems. and this problem isn't isolated to just the AE building. It was just an area where I saw it happening repeatedly with nothing really going on.
Sometimes I'm on a full team of 8 and it does this. Sometimes it never crops up. I usually can't go a day without hit happening either. Sometimes it'll happen when I first get started and then I wont see it the rest of the day. sometimes it happens when I'm just starting to think about heading to bed. Sometimes I'm just flying around or just talking to people. sometimes I'm just fighting. This is what drives me nuts. Nothing I am seeing indicates a pattern.
That's why I'm trying to report situations like the AE building. I know exactly what was visually going on at that time and it happend more than once. It's easy to report. Most of the time I can't do that. If you guys think it'll help Ill try and report what's going on every time this happens as it happens.

Post a Hijack this log so we cab see what you have running in the background. There could be a task/app that's 'stealing CPU cycles in short bursts, which could cause what you're seeing.
Question: Do you have ANY software set to automatically check for updates from the web?
WIndows Updates does it I know. I normally turn other ones off.
I also already posted a hijackthis log. I'll post the new one if you want

Uh quick note. I'm letting CO update when I made that log. I never run two games at once.
OK. I did the Cap Au Diable TF no problems. We decided to fight Deathsurge afterward. We whittled him down to 1/4 power and My Framerates dropped to zero. WE were near the WSPDR building. After about a minute things freed up again and I was able to help finish Deathsurge off.
I've been at the BM in CAp au Since fighting Deathsurge. It's been freezing on and off ever since. I'm just doing some shoping and making some IO's for a friend. I've had 4 freezes while stanidn at teh BM. One while SJ between teh bvault and university. and Once while transitioning from inside the university to outside.
EDIT: Standing still inside the University on the balcony of teh room that has teh sciencey look and invention stations in it.
I got tired and went to bed but that continued for the rest of the night. It even survived a reboot. All I did the rest of the night was hang out around that area of Cap Au, The BM, Vault, and University.

It would appear that nobody has an answer for you... or they'd have responded. You have a very weird issue. CoH Helper isn't giving the detail needed at this time... you need to post a full DXDiag log now.
Also, it sounds a *whole lot* like a CPU slow down, like it's getting too hot. Don't suppose that SpeedFan would work and get you some temps would it? I know you checked things, but perhaps the CPU cooler isn't seated or such... or maybe it's a messed up northbridge chip heatsink... just throwing things out there.
See, the thing is, the computer itself is slowing down to a crawl, it seems like. That doesn't indicate an issue with the video, it's a motherboard/cpu one. Or... perhaps it's a USB issue.
You are running a USB wireless. That could be part of the issue.
Your hijack this shows some extra stuff in it I'd take out/disable with MSConfig until I figured out which one it was:

O23 - Service: Update Center Service (UpdateCenterService) - NVIDIA - C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\System Update\UpdateCenterService.exe
I'd be finding another network solutions, preferably a wired connection and turning these off too:
O23 - Service: Broadcom Wireless LAN Tray Service (wltrysvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXE
O23 - Service: WUSB54GSC - GEMTEKS - C:\Program Files\Linksys\WUSB54GSCv2\WLService.exe
That way, you can't blame the software... much. It's still software, after all, that the OS is and the program is.
---
On a little bit of a forum rules note, you do know that bumping isn't allowed, right? Might get you in a time out. I know you want your issue dealt with, and I don't know why, exactly, in this forum it's not allowed, but it's not allowed.
Not that I care, really, just figured I'd say it. Y'know... in case you didn't, in fact, know.

Double posting is also against the rules. I could have created a new thread but people would just [censored] and moan about that. I figured that after 4 days of waiting I could bump this one up to the top so all the information and attempts at fixing the problem is there.
Anywho. A land line is not an option at this point. I kinda find it difficult to believe that is the problem anyway. I've been using it for 6 months without this problem. I'll take a look at an alternative way to check Core temps when I get home.
As for the other stuff. I can't really get rid of Hdeck and Ipoint as that is my audio and Mouse respectivly. The other stuff I could get rid of although I use Trillian constantly. If I don't have it pop up on startup I would just manually start it up.
Hm, good point there on the bump/doubles. My head explodes with the illogic of the two. You win.
A Ethernet cable isn't an option? Interesting. But it's your situation, and so I'll leave it, with the caveat of you can't eliminate/confirm the wireless is the issue without it.
re: programs... I don't advocate you dump them completely, I'm saying you test your system without them, and then add them back if it works, or doesn't. Point being that the simpler you make things, the more likely things will work.
In all diagnostics, you have to get down to the lowest common denominator.. mainly, power, keyboard, mouse, video, network for external connections, OS with as little running as possible. You then can add things until you find the broken bit.
IF, however, you do go down to the lowest common denominator, and it *still* doesn't work, then you have still accomplished something: The list of items that could be breaking things is much smaller than the kitchen sink of stuff you had before.
But, it is your machine. Your deal. You do as you see fit, of course, I can't and won't stop you. Just tryin' to help. Hope ya find it, and good luck!

Hi all, I'm bringing this thread back from its recent death because I'm having the exact same problem. Just began yesterday, once in awhile, now it's clockwork - 5 minutes of 2-3 fps, then normal for 1 minute, then back to 2-3 fps, etc.
I already contact Support and emailed them the file they asked me to, so that's pending. I updated my drivers etc. I did read this whole thread and downloaded nVidia System Monitor (my card is a GeForce 9400). Anyway, it says my temperature is 27-28 celsius, like in the 80's fahrenheit, way too hot, I know, but I'm not sure what to do about it, as it is hot and humid in this house and the fan is spinning and relatively dust-free. I might try leaving the case open, we'll see.
I figured I'd post this info here if anyone could help, suppose it doesn't hurt to use all avenues available. Thanks in advance...
BTW, Inquizitor, did you ever figure out what was causing your problem?
Okay, here's the stuff:

Second, your video and audio driver installations appear to be corrupted as indicated by the yellow text and the year portion of the dates.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

First, install Service Pack 2 for Vista through Windows update. You may need to install other updates before it will show up, or you may need to unhide it if you have previously hidden it. You can also download it directly from Microsoft's website.
Second, your video and audio driver installations appear to be corrupted as indicated by the yellow text and the year portion of the dates. |
I'm not sure how to fix the driver installation corruptions however. I checked them in the Device Manager and both say that they're updated and they have proper installation dates, not what it says in the yellow text. Should I take the computer into the shop? Or is there some way I can fix it from here? Is it that "rollback driver" feature in the device manager, then reinstall?
Sidenote: the game worked fine this weekend, only giving up the ghost after a good 10 hours of playing, the weather had cooled radically, so that might have been it. Still, I've played this game in warmer weather for longer, so something's up.
Anyway, thanks again.
Download the video drivers from nVidia's website. Uninstall your video drivers from the Control Panel. Once you have them uninstalled, reboot the computer into Safe Mode (press F8 rapidly as it is booting), run DriverSweeper and remove any nVidia Display drivers listed, reboot into Windows normally cancelling any driver installations that pop up, install the nVidia drivers.
Once this is done post a fresh CoH Helper log as this will let us see if the drivers installed correctly.

Hey there, Texas_Justice
I followed your advice from the previous post and as you can see, Service Pack 2 successfully installed, but the drivers still show up as yellow. I did the whole thing twice, it was a 2 hour ordeal
Anyway, the DriverSweeper gave me the option to analyse and clean the nVidia display, so I chose that the first time and checkmarked all and hit "clean", right away it gave me the option to reboot and I did, then installed the drivers I had saved previously from the website. Nothing popped up that I had to cancel. So, not sure what that means and likely I'm missing something.
Thanks again for your help...if it continues, I might just take it into the shop, still on warranty...but I was hoping to avoid doing that.
Later,
SV

The AE buildings are NOTORIOUSLY laggy. In AND around the buildings.
Out of curiosity, which zone was this in?
