mac updater never finishes (cider-COHD-Updater...)

I am having a problem with the CoH updater. I'm not sure how I got to this point, but the updater keeps downloading "cider_COHD_Updater_002591.tgz"

It says it is a 12.0M file. When the download progress reaches 12.0M, the updater quits, automatically restarts, and starts downloading the same file over again, repeating the whole ordeal.

I tried deleting all CoH files and prefs, and reinstalling from the downloadable client, but the same behavior occurs.

Any suggestions?

I've got 10.5.7

I've been getting the same problem.

I'm 90% new to Macs and was playing it fine before i15. Once I got on today it went into the updater and got that same "cider-COH-Updater-002591.tgz" thing.

Keeping in mind I've got almost zero know how on Macs, how should I go about installing the whole thing. I've deleted the stuff in applications, but I wonder if there are hidden files somewhere allowing this problem to happen.

I'm using a Macbook, the was able to play CoH before i15 went live. I'm getting the same problem with Test server, (I tried to install it hoping it might fix something but no go.)

Update, I was able to remove everything and tried to reinstall the client. After I dl'd then launched I got the same loop!

But after I navigated to /Applications/City of Heroes Test.app/Contents
# /Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh/cider/ folder I double clicked cider-COHD-Updater-002591 and it went on to patch. 3 hours of patching (clean install) I'll post my results in the morning or soon as I can.

Okay BasicSwardGuy, I'll give that a try when I get home.

If you don't hear from me again, it means that it worked.

(and, oh yeah, I'm running the latest patch of OSX 10.5, which I guess is 10.5.7)

If anyone running 10.5 is still having the problem noted above, please post the portion of your Console Log where the problem seems to occur.

You can catch that by running Console first (Applications > Utilities > Console) and using the Clear button. Then launch CoH and watch the events posted to the log. Note that "f_drive" errors are normal and no cause for panic.

In particular I'm looking for permissions based errors, file create/delete/extract errors, bad patch servers, etc.

Can you do me a favor? Right-click that COHD file, select Get Info, and tell me what it's set to "open with"?

Okay, I did what BasicSwardGuy did and got things moving.

To answer CuppaManga's question, the .tgz file was set to open with Archive Utility.

Can you please also list your system specs? I'm not sure if you already filed a Support ticket (please do!), but any information will help our Tech Support team track this down.

from system profiler:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.21f4

I didn't file a support ticket because...

I suspect this all happened because I started both CoH and CoH Test at the same time (accidentally). Before the splash screens appeared, I quit both instances of the game from the menu bar (note: I did NOT use force quit). I figured this was the source of all the trouble - that I had interrupted the 'natural' process.

Might also want to throw your OS up there with those specs.
