RULES

<ul type="square">
[*]Each Participant must pay a $20 million entry fee[*]Each Participant will be required to fight with 3 different toons, no repeating AT's.[*] Event will be Round Robin Style.[*]The number of rounds will be based on the number of participants.[*]1/3 of the way through the rounds I will call for a toon change. Every participant much change AT's at that point. 10 minutes and 10 minutes only will be given for this toon changing break. Same will happen again at 2/3 of the way through. (There are 2 purposes for this. First purpose is that anyone can be good at an FOTM, requiring multiple toons should help us see who is truly skilled at pvp. Second reason is to keep the prizes here on Champion, no one is going to move 3 toons for an event.)[*]Settings TBA [*]Pre-registration is not required. However entry fees will be taken at the beginning of the event. Once I am through collecting, no more entries will be accepted. Fee will be accepted in either infamy or influence equally.[*]SHW[*]Tier 1 inspirations and arena temp powers only.[*]No teleporting during buff stage.[*]Smack talking will get you DQ'd.[*]No spawn camping[*]No resets, every map plays.

PRIZES

<ul type="square"> [*]Winner receives the jackpot of all of the entry fees to be paid out in infamy/influence as they were received. [*]I will also be throwing in some sort of prize TBD. [*]I will also accept any and all donations that members of the community would like to donate. [/list]

Much better! I like it

Sounds excellent!! I love it....however i think if a player has two different trollers they should be able to fight with both. same for stalkers or blasters mostly because playing an Ice/therm is much different than playing an Ice/rad. Not too many people can field 3 ATs worth of pvp toons on champion.

I would like to enter the suggestion that the repeating AT be removed and in its place add you must play 3 different toons. It still supports your premise of skill and style and doesnt penalize those who can field 3 toons but not with 3 ATs.

Sorry. Not going to change it. While i understand where you are coming from I am attempting something different with this event.

Defenders and Controllers are totally different with each build. However blasters, stalkers, scrappers, tanks...etc...etc....are very similar with each build. I want the contest to separate those that rely on one or two particular types of toons to always win to be forced to show more variety in their skill level.

While this only applies to a small percentage of pvprs, I have noticed several that rely specifically on one type of toon to win with. Forcing them to play other builds broadens the chances for others to win. There are many that ALMOST ALWAYS play the same toon for just about every pvp event. Because you can rock one build does not make you an excellent pvp'r IMHO. Because you can rock just about anything you play....that makes you an ELITIST PVP'R. Which is what we are looking for here. :-)

This is not an event that is really geared towards the newbie pvp'r (my other 2 events this month are), those that are hardcore enough to enter are going to have 3 viable toons to do it with. (Though I expect several to claim they don't because they know they suck on anything but their blaster/stalker/stormy etc. ) Perhaps not all purpled out, but hey thats just another way to test the skills as well...making people fight without the uber buildz. :-)

**On a side note, FYI, this same exact event will be held again in August but will be a 2v2 or 3v3 , haven't decided which yet. Just a headsup for those needing to work on toons or getting teams together**

Just in case you didn't read what you just wrote I quoted it for you! "just because you rock one build..."...all due respect Kat you do have much much more pvp experience than I, however how many matches have you fought since I13?

Builds even amongst the Same ATs are very very different. For as much i respect your position as our pvpec rep and your conribution to pvp as a whole, your stalwart unwavering attitude towards anyother idea but your own leaves much to be desired.

may i suggest you put it to those that will be participating?

Very few. However I can't discuss why that is because I am supposed to be promoting pvp. :-) Lets just say that just about everyone that I enjoyed pvp'n with is now gone so I have moved up to just trying to provide events that others might enjoy.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am sorry that you are seeing it as unwavering. My job is to throw events that people want to participate in, however I also have the flexibility to run them in a variety of ways with a variety of rules. While I may be unwavering in regards to this particular event I have no problem running many other events how you suggested. I am always open to suggestions but unless an event is getting a totally negative response from the community I am generally going to stick with the initial rules that I post. Every event is going to have something that someone doesn't like. Do an FFA, someone wants a 2v2, do 3 v 3 and someone wants lvl 4 FFA. That is why I try to run something different all the time so that there is something for everyone.

You are not going to be the only person wanting that rule taken off. Some people only pvp one type of toon, which is the entire reason behind the rule. I want an event with a broader perspective, a bigger challenge.

2 breaks for toon changes is going to make my job harder, plus having to match up globals to the new toon names people switch too and set up the next fights is going to be hectic. I certainly wouldn't make an event that complicated on myself if it wasn't something important to me to run that way, or if I didn't think taking those measures would be worth the efffort.

Ahh another RV smackdown. You should run those every month...it doesnt cost you anything

I agree. More people able to enter = more fun. Limiting the # of people that can enter = no fun.

Even when not restricting same ATs, having 3 different toons to be played I'm sure would add variety.

Kat when are you going to announce the settings as that will greatly determine what ATs are viable for this tourney. As one that will have to accolade and IO a toon knowing the settings ASAP would be greatly appreciated.

Also has the PvPec worked out how to handle the "SUDDEN DEATH" final 10 seconds of a tie match? in practice yesterday it is terribad and i cannot see how to turn it off.

I haven't had time to play any of the new arena settings that came out with yesterdays issue, in fact I haven't even looked over the patch notes. If you can tell me what changes came out I can answer quickly, if not then I will try to get on in next day or 2 and check them out.

Not to my knowledge, nothing on our boards about it.

Ha! I was sure you would have had a 5 hour lecture from Raid about the upcoming changes by now.

Here it is in a nutshell

PvP and Arenas - Feedback

Edit post Edit Reply to this post Reply Reply to this post Quote Quick Reply Quick Reply

PVP

* Capped the base duration of all mezzes in PvP zones and Arena to 4 seconds. Strength mods can still increase the duration of the mez beyond 4 seconds.

* Fixed the bug where powers were being cleared when entering and leaving PvP zones.

* Stun duration for all versions of Rise of the Phoenix is now correctly set to 2 seconds in PVP.

Arenas

* Removed the minimum cap on the number of players allowed to play on an Arena map. Now two players are allowed to play on every single map. The maximum cap remains because of technical limitations.

* Now displaying the number of kills needed to win in the nav bar in Individual Kills Arena matches.

* Significantly increased the flight speed of the spectator camera.

* Granted the spectator camera a substantial perception radius.

* Fixed the bug where individual kills arena matches would have one more life per player than they should have.

* Sudden Death has been enabled for all timed Arena matches.

* Fixed the bug where sometimes an Arena match with a Lives victory condition would give the victory of the match to the wrong side.

* Observers can now see the time remaining in timed Arena matches.

* Altered Sudden Death in Arena matches to set all pets (including Gladiators) to 1 HP, like it does to players.

* Added 20 and 10 second notifications to the end of a timed Arena match.

* Clicking on another player and selecting 'Invite to Arena event' now works correctly.

* New Arena Terminal options: No Inspirations, and No Temp Powers.

* Added a separate No Heal Decay option to the arena.

* Improved the Swiss Draw UI:

* Clicking on a Kiosk while in a tournament will bring up the current tournament standings.

* Notifications are given during tournament intermission that let the players know when the next round is starting at 2 minutes, 15 seconds, and 5 seconds.

* Fixed a bug that would stop a player from being able to observe an Arena match that was created in a different zone.

* Fixed a bug that would sometimes stop a player from being able to join an Arena match in a slot that was designated for their Archetype.

* Altered the Buff period during a Gladiator match to a shorter preparation period where the Gladiators are spawned but the players cannot use buffs.

* Masterminds can no longer inspire Gladiator pets.

I am not the biggest fan of PvP, but i recognized it as an important part of CoH. I am glad to see CriticalKat doing events that new players can join, but just as important is having events specifically for the advanced player.
Good luck Kat!

Any word on Sudden Death kills at the end of a tie match?

I think if a match goes to sudden death it should be an automatic rematch of unlimited time set to one kill unless both players agree on a draw.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not exactly sure how sudden death works. I only saw it once when I was practicing against X, 1v1. Basically we were tied at the very end, in combat. Timer runs out and I instantly drop dead, when I have 75% hp left.

Something is really messed up there. I don't know what the best way to make it work, until they add a button to make it optional &gt;&lt;

What SD does if the match is tied at 0:01 then it lowers each players HP to 1. It favors toons that use DoT or are built with phase or hib. I can see how it adds another layer of stragety to the event however it does not add a corresponding layer of 'fun' for the lack of a better word.

I can speak of all the times we have PvPed to a tie shin (not nearly as many as you have beaten me) it seems like almost a let down to win just by playing 'got you last'.

I can agree to that. Wow I really hope they just flat out remove this feature.

Is there any way to prove it went to sudden death? For example lets say its tied 3-3. Match times out and goes into sudden death. Team A gets a kill on Team B during sudden death. Rules of the event say sudden death kills should be a rematch or considered a tie. Team A says they won without sudden death 4-3, the results from the arena interface would still say that they won 4-3, but without sudden death it would have been 3-3. As far as I know, there would be no way for team B to prove that it was a tie 3-3 up until sudden death when team A gets the 1 hp h4x kill.

Rules for any of my events are if either team/individual claims it, its a rematch with me watching. (ex rematches for spawn camping claims in the past) While this could spark people to abuse it by always claiming different than the truth just to get a rematch because they are a sore loser...I would rather risk that than declare a winner that didn't fairly win. Personally I think if someone won once fairly, they will do it the second time with me watching as well.

Being that there are generally a bunch of observers for any of these big events, I would hope that people would be honest and not risk being called out for being untruthful. If the observers say no rematch is due, I will generally go with that.
