Questions on Elec Melee and Hide

Hi,

I'm just playing around with Stalkers but I'm definitely intrigued. Maybe some folks can help answer a few questions.

The first is regarding the initial Attack choice for Elec Melee. The consensus that I see on the boards is to take Havoc punch over Charged Brawl. In fact I haven't seen one dissenting opinion on this. My character is for PvE only and I come from a scrapper background (maybe why I might be missing the point here) but I don't understand why folks feel this way. Charged brawl appears to yield a good bit more DPS. I realize that Havoc punch offers more burst damage but in any kind of sustained fight I would think Charged Brawl would be preferable. Primarily I am looking at high end level 50 builds with the goal of possibly defeating AVs.

My second question regards Hide and Mids. Are you guys seeing a crazy amount of defense being added to your AoE defense when you toggle Hide on in Mid's? I am /Nin and when I turn Hide on in Mid's it's granting me 39.5% defense . That can't be right can it?

Thanks for the help.

Hide gives that kind of defense unsuppressed, but as soon as you attack or are attacked it drops to ~2%.

As for CB vs Havoc, I believe most stalkers don't care about DPS or soloing anything bigger than an EB, hence they go for burst over anything else. That's purely conjecture, though.

Hey... I just made an Elec/Nin Stalker...

Speaking of which, how does [Lightning Rod] impact Hide? Caltrops?

LR does not suppress hide.. so a good chain is BU+LR and then Thunderstrike. Caltrops WILL break Hide however.

Last time I checked Havoc Punch and Charged Brawl were very close in DPA once you factor in Arcanatime. Also going from memory here but JL has decent DPA when use as a single-target attack I believe. Once you get some good recharge you don't need both Havoc Punch and Charged Brawl to keep going, so you just pick one. Most people will pick the one with higher damage and use it for the bigger guaranteed post-Placate critical against hard targets. Chain Induction could be used for that purpose though.

So ultimately it's a matter of personal preference. Pick one or the other. You might want to run numbers on some attack chains with your expected build. It may be that for max DPS against hard targets you'll want both. I went for max AoE on mine so I never needed to squeeze every ounce of single-target damage like you would if you want to solo AVs. With my build EBs have never been a problem and that's the most I've ever needed to solo.

Electric Melee question:

Is the chance for placate proc worth using here?

I assume that though it will placate, it won't hide you, making it a lame single target smoke flash in a proc.

Has anyone had success using it on their stalkers?

No, it won't. Just like LR, it will gain you aggro if it hits anything but you won't lose Hide unless something you aggroed hits you.

I haven't tried it. If it works the same as the power there's a good chance the placate will be instantly broken by any -recovery effect on the target at the time. Even if not, I'm not sure what the benefit would be of placating a target you're actively attacking. It will be broken a moment later when your next attack lands. It might give you a second or two break from being attacked, but I think if I had the spare slot and nothing better to do with it I'd put in a damage proc before the placate proc.
