Which side would you choose?
Hasn't a similar theme to Civil War already happened in the CoX Universe ?
The Might for Right act, and subsequent repeal is really what Im thinking about, but Im not 100% famialiar withe the whole Civil War stuff to be sure.
Tie in the Hero Corp/Freedom Phalanx issue over "Hero for hire' versus those who perform public service. The History of the United Nations Special Council on Super Human Activities and the Citizen Crime Fighting Act, and I think the themes have been covered.
The UN special Council is pretty heavily tied in the the Global Heroics lore, which is why I can be a little bit geekish about this.
Anyway to answer you question. Im pretty sure my entire stable of Heros would have tried to stand up against the compulsory regsitration and selective drafting of the Might for Right act.
In fact I have an idea that events around the 'expert badge' plaque by the river in Perez

On this spot, operatives from the CIA attempted to arrest Roger Washington, Georgia Reynolds, and Hakeem Muhammad, young African-American heroes who had refused to be drafted under the Might For Right Act. The operatives were shocked to find not just the three youths, but a whole battalion of heroes who had flocked to their cause. The battle over the Might For Right Act had begun.

which would make an excellent backdrop to an MA arc.

I'm not certain about the lore for CoH, but aren't the heroes already registered? If not then I'd be all for keeping a secret identity and doing whatever necessary to maintain it. Some back stories would undoubtedly include the hero/villian not having a secret identity; at that point the morals of the character would determine their side. I would say most villains would register, as more having been arrested multiple times wouldn't have much of a secret identity left; not like they couldn't go bad later anyways.

I know what you are thinking of and in some ways the The Might for Right Act is similar to the Mutant Registration or Superhero Registration Act from Marvel, the major difference being the events that precipitated them and the legal requirements.
The MFRA was essentially a mandatory draft of superhumans into service - they had no choice or say in the matter. The SHRA was somewhat more flexible in offering the option of becoming a paid government employee.
I'm not sure about the CoX lore when it comes to each of our characters having ID cards. It is my understanding that our "alter egos" are registered and not the secret identity (if they have one).
And yes, it would indeed make a great backdrop for a MA story, wouldn't it? This is kinda why I was asking people what side their toon would choose.

Very interesting point to bring up - the morality of a character and how that would determine what side they choose.
Makes me think of Dr. Hamilton from Star Labs on the Superman/JLU cartoons. You always thought he was a good guy... then you see him as one of the primaries in Project Cadmus. And yet, did this make him evil?

All of my villains and all but one of my heroes would be against registration. My hero sg is the Vengeance Imperium and is made up of toons that skirt the boudaries of the law...they would never register...except for maybe T-54 (a russian mace/shield tank) who is already a lackey for the russian government.
A lot of my heroes and some of my vill bios are written as files from the Freedom Phalanx or Vanguard computers with commentary by signature characters detailing their issues/problems with the tactics of my heroes and the dangers posed by my villains. They are not "registered" but the powers that be are keeping tabs on them.
I always thought it would be kinda cool to put together a marvel universe A-Z style collection where everybody gets to write a one page "Vanguard File" on themselves...but I can imagine that running off the tracks pretty quickly...much like my post has.
Bottom line...no registration for my toons.

My position would be to maintain registration. As I understand, in CoX lore, you are registered from the get go as a hero and you even work directly out of City Hall in AP. I think I only have one hero currently who walks the line of hero/vigilante. All my villains, however, would certainly be against.
I find this ironic, because I was definitely siding with Cap in Marvel's Civil War comics. I guess I feel like CoX needs to keep heroes registered so that if another disaster strikes (see Rikti War), retired or MIA heroes can be accounted for. Also, registration helps to keep tabs on hero's powers that have a potential to go out of whack, such as in Faultline or Siren's Call.
Anyway, that's my 2 influence.

Or in the event they "Go Rogue".
I'm not an expert on CoX lore either, but I agree with you that toons in the CoX universe are "registered" with their factions from the start. I don't know if that includes having to reveal any secret identities or not.

All my alts would totally be against the registration. Just on the principle of having to disclose one self and loosing your anonymity and privacy. They all like being on the fringe and under the radar. Would they fight other heroes who support registration, of course they would, if only because it would be fighting the system.

I forgot to add that you already know some things... my new arc that we ran the other night is the prelude to it all.
For those that haven't run it yet, check out Arc ID: 232417 - "The Hero Who Loved Me"
Pay close attention to who is where in the first mission, the dialogue of the major villains, clues you find, who comes to your aid in the 3rd mission, and most importantly the mission complete clue in mission 5.
P.S. Yes, that was a shameless plug.

I had been reading a few articles over the past few days reviewing the return of Steve Rogers as Captain America and it got me to thinking about his assassination in the finale of the "Civil War" storyline.
We all have beloved characters of our own here on CoX, be they villain or hero, and each of them has their own unique background of who they are and how they came to be.
My question is this; if the events of "Civil War" had happened within the CoX world, which side would your toon have chosen? Would they have been for or against registration with the government and why?
If your favorite toon is a hero, would they have fought other heroes to defend their position? If a villain, would they have opted for registration in exchange for amnesty or would they have remained rogue operatives?
I'm curious how each of you would see your favorite character choosing a side in this. And yes, there is a reason I am asking.
