What is the Max amount of characters you can have

Back again with one of my random questions...
I was talking to a budy of mine who said that you can only have a certain amount of characters spread accross the servers so I was wondering if there is a max here, or could you fill up all 36 or whatever slots on every server?

36 per server... 11 servers... that would be 396 total characters per account.

Considering you can have as many accounts as you want, the real maximum is infinite.

Ok I wasnt sure if it would actually allow you to fill every one of them up or not I am NO where close I was just curious if you would get a pop up saying "you have reached maximum amount of characters allowed"

On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if they raised the maximum number of characters per server to 48 (or more) to account for the new expansion coming our way. That would add 132 more characters to make the total 528 (or more).

Well, there is a slight correction to this. Every account starts with 12 spaces per server. That gives you a base of 123 characters. You can then buy additional spaces up to the maximum of 36 per server.
Also, every now and then new character slots are given as part of new updates and the like. These do not add to the 36 space max. but you don't have to pay for them.

We might be thinking the same thing from different angles. As far as I know, the maximum number of characters you can have on any single server is 36. This includes the 12 original, the free rewards mentioned earlier and any you purchase from the store.
This is where I was trying to go earlier. Not sure I'f I said it right.

[/ QUOTE ]I think he was just trying to say that if you fill all 36 on a server, and you get another free slot, it doesn't automatically add to the server and increase the max to 37.

To clarify, the frees slots we are given (and even the ones we purchase) are issued per-account, not per-server, and have to be claimed in an empty slot on a single server in order to create a character with it. As mentioned, there are currently only 36 slots per server, and no way to claim a 37th. If one server is full, the free slot(s) would have to be claimed on a different server when needed.

I agree which is why I was suprised to hear that WoW is that way, but I have never played it so I cant say that I have any idea how thier servers or toon slots work

36x11, I dont think I could ever fill that up, I put way to much thought into my Heros/Villians and most of them fit into existing storys/Bios of previous toons

Okay, I can't imagine anyone being obsessed enough for this, but what happens if someone manages to have all 36 slots on all servers unlocked and then their next veteran anniversary comes around?

Would they still be awarded the free slot even though there would be no way to redeem it? Perhaps a good idea if that were to happen would be to credit the account the purchase value of the slot instead of awarding the slot.

[/ QUOTE ]Correct. They will see the "redeem slot" option at the bottom, but there will be no spaces to put it. It's the same if you have purchased all 36 slots on a single server and have a leftover slot placement. You'll see "redeem slot" at the bottm, but you can't add it because there are no spaces left.
