Salvage Storage : Expandable and Useful
I think that would be a neat idea
hell yeah, I'm all for UI improvements.
/signed, twice
I like the first part - the Terminal that can link bins.
But I want to keep separate bins with separate permissions as well. Are you suggesting that *all* bins have to be attached to a Terminal in order ot be used?
That seems to be what your second part of the suggestion is saying. I don't wnat that to happen. Adding a required attachment does not "simplify", it instead adds "complication" in that instead of having one item to incorporate in my base designs, I would now have to work 2 items in.
And we definitely need to keep some way to set aside some salvage bins with separate permissions, but I could see a system where you attach the "open" bins to one terminal and allow anyone to access those bins, while setting other bins aside with more limited permissions - either as standalones or attached to their own terminal.
So, I guess I can /halfsign.

The terminal idea which has been kicked around by a few of us up in the base forums would work like this.
1. It can only be linked to bins in the same room. That way SG's can still use bins for personal storage.
2. It would only draw from what the person has permission to use. So it wouldn't circumvent storage permissions.
We used the attachment idea because we wanted to give SG's the option of not using it at all.
The stand-alone existing salvage racks can be used if you want a special storage area that is restricted. The idea was around larger, communal storage. I am not advocating removing the existing salvage racks for those that prefer them.

I like this better. It preserves the separate permissions we requested and got in I13.
But I wasn't sure how complex it would be (programming-wise) to set it so the Terminal recognizes the various permissions of different bins. If that ends up being too complex, then separating bins into different rooms should work out well. I suppose you would then set up a Terminal for each room?

The devs could design it so it would be one terminal per room, or they could even limit the number of bins that can attach to a terminal. (Like they do with certain control items)
If they limit the number of attachments then they don't need to worry about permissions. SG can choose which bins get linked together by rank. Then if you don't have permission, you can't use it.
Problem: The 30 item limit on salvage storage can get chaotic since you cannot see what is in all the other bins on the base at once. Organization of items in bins is also clunky.
Solution: Create 2 New Base Items that would allow up to 240 salvage items to be accessed and sorted via 1 terminal.
Salvage Access Terminal: This item contains no salvage itself and does not count as a storage item but can have up to 8 Salvage Storage Bins attached to it.
Clicking on this item will pull open a UI showing all the salvage items in Salvage Storage Bins attached to this Terminal. Click and Drag will add/remove items from the terminal. Permissions can be set for the terminal as they are for current Storage Racks. Sort options for type, rarity and quantity would be available.
This item consumes 10 Control and 10 Power.
This item cannot be destroyed in a base raid.
Salvage Storage Bin: This item must be attached to a Salvage Storage Terminal to be used. It provides 30 salvage storage slots.
This item consumes 5 Power.
This item cannot be destroyed in a base raid.
Just my $0.02
