Why do my captives have Stockholm Syndrome?

Simply put, the captives I placed don't run after being rescued. In other arcs I've played, the captive runs after being rescued. What am I doing wrong?

I thought it was the other way around. Captives usually bolt for the exit as soon as they are released and ally's stand around, looking stupid if they are set as non-combat. Maybe it's the choices for what they do on release that you need to set for them to run for the hills.

There's no option for a Captive to go anywhere, just choices as to which animation they do after being freed. If you want someone to run off after rescue, they need to be an Ally (or an Escort, but you'd need to lead them to their objective first).

If your captives are staying put, thats a bug.

"Once the captive is free, they will flee to the nearest exit" - from the tooltip info for 'Release Captive' objective in the MA.

Eco.

PS Maybe you mean Hostage?

Captives are supposed to flee to the nearest exit when rescued, always - that's why there are no options to control what they do.

However, they don't seem to know how to find the door on outside maps. I could have sworn there were canon arcs that did this, though I haven't actually played through one since the MA was released. Regardless, I've been assuming this was a (low priority) bug.

This doesn't work on outdoor maps. I bugged this some time ago, doesnt appear to be high on their priority list....

Ah, that explains it. So far I've only used captives on outdoor maps. Perhaps I should try using allies as a workaround.

Allies don't work either. The AI just can't seem to find the exit on those maps.

Allies also have the problem that they only do the thing you tell them to do ("flee", "wander", etc) when some player character is in range. Out of range they just stand there.

Captives indoors run to the door so fast their rescue dialog chat bubble is usually across the room or way down the hall by the time they speak it.

Tip: Always give them a rescue animation so they'll stand in place while they say their peace.
