Cannot login to CoH gets to loading screen then... poof. Nothing. Exits updater.
1) I didn't change anything on my computer before the problem.
2) Runs in Safe Mode fine.
2a) VERIFIES FILES every time I try to log in (regular, not safe mode) ** edited to add this **
3) Changed resolution in Safe Mode and TweekCoH. No Good.
4) Changed TweekCoH to low settings. No good.
5) Ran Avast spyware/anti-virus. No good.

Bah. Please help!

** EDIT: HIJACKTHIS file is far down the page, finally got it goin.

I've been up all night, and you can probably guess I'm highly irritated I couldn't join a planned TF today.

So, I'm gonna go sleep. It would be really, really nice if I wake up to a solution, or working toward it.

Thanks all in advance.

Question, have you tried doing a "Verify Image"?

I started getting this behavior REALLY bad this morning. Everything was fine last night.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Yes... that is another thing. EVERY TIME I try to log on it Verifies all the files. That is getting old too.

**editing original post to note this**

Might also want to post up a HijackThis log file, just in case there's something running causing it.

That it runs in safe mode is slightly telling... In safe mode, have you tried windowed mode to see if it runs that way?

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

Thanks, updated them last week, but suppose there coulda been an update. Will check on that.

Are you having the same problem I am having??? I looked on the forum, and thought I was the only one. I will be even more upset if I've been working on this, sans sleep, to find it is a CoH issue, not mine. arg.

Sorry Sharker, like I said, I'm running low on gas, no sleep... I'll respond fully to your post:

I can't seem to get HijackThis log file to output ubbcode-forum-speak. I get lots of HTML stuff which is keeping me from posting here PLEASE tell me what I'm doing wrong!

Good idea, missed that one. Will try it, thank you!

OK, whilst I VERIFY ALL FILES AGAIN...

I went to TweakCoH and unchecked FULLSCREEN, which I believe would invoke Windows Mode, yes?

When I did, I got a CRASHREPORT:
(Maybe this will help while I wait for someone to explain what I am doing wrong with HijackThis)

OK, I have the latest drivers, and they worked for a week before this problem.

Still haven't gotten CoH to work in Windowed Mode.
-Returned TweakCoH settings to FULLSCREEN, and getting original crash instead of the other crashes trying to get Windowed Mode running.

MORE HELP PLEASE! KEEP IT COMING!

--Still need to know how to get HijackThis to report properly for forums too.

Thanks!

Please help me so I can provide all necessary to fix this perplexing problem.

Since CoH runs fine in it's own Safe Mode, that seems to point to the graphics card. Let's try to narrow down possibilities in that area. Clean your current graphics drivers using Driver Sweeper, link in my sig.

1. Use the official uninstaller(s) of the driver(s) you want to uninstall
2. Reboot PC in Safe Mode
3. Run Driver Sweeper and select what to clean
4. Reboot
5. Disable any anti-malware software
6. Install most current drivers

(Maybe this will help while I wait for someone to explain what I am doing wrong with HijackThis)

Yes, you must be tired indeed.

From the Main Menu choose, "Do a system scan and save a logfile". After the scan finishes, the report will automatically popup in notepad, waiting to be saved. Press Control+A to select all, then Control+C to copy all and paste that info to your next post.

Wow. You've got a lot goin' on. Hm. Here's what I'd be turning off via MSConfig at the very least. Some you'll notice are Logitech things. I'm sure that you want them on, but we're testing here. Try to run it without and then add them back in.

In the Startup Tab, uncheck:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Launch LGDCore] "C:\Program Files\Logitech\G-series Software\LGDCore.exe" /SHOWHIDE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Launch LCDMon] "C:\Program Files\Logitech\G-series Software\LCDMon.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTHelper] CTHELPER.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTxfiHlp] CTXFIHLP.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Google Desktop Search] "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe" /startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eFax 4.3] "C:\Program Files\eFax Messenger 4.3\J2GDllCmd.exe" /R

Now in the Hijack This, I'm probably killing these, you ***YOU*** must decide this for yourself. At the very least, I'm uninstalling the things. You really should pick *one* toolbar, and take the others out.

Now, that's the cleanup post... I'm not saying it will help, but it won't hurt, and will cut down on the things the computer is being asked to do... which may be all the problem that is going on here.

/wonders what the 6 Internet Explorers running is about... but hey, it's your computer...

Try installing the latest version of directx. Your crash report shows a "not found" on a lot of the directx .dll files.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

THat's what happenswhen the Logitech install is broken. Completely uninstall the Logitech programs and reinstall. That will cause PC userside lag. Not the cause of your problem, but will be better in the long run.

Now as to the problem, other questions I have:

Anyone? What's with the Crash Report saying "Not Found!" in regards to the many DX files above? I find that... odd.

Don't suppose you're running a dual monitor setup are you? (This is where I like the DXDiag logs better... maybe a lot of extras, but I know I'm gettin' what I need... Or am I insulting Zloth and the CoH Helper?)

edit: Aha! I knew I saw something there... bet the sound part of Co* is crashing then. It's DX.

I haven't gone thru line by line what you said, gonna state my case here first.

I agree. I am not a toolbar ho, hate the damn things. I do run google search 'widget' but not a bar. Ahhhhh I think I see it. The google widgets for ebay, imdb, youtube. That's prolly it. I can lose those easy, hadn't thought about them being an issue, you're so right. They're GONE. This was supposed to be my sleek gamer, and over time I ho'd it out for convenience. Need to streamline it again. ]

That said, that's been goin on about a year, dunno what the issue is suddenly.

Gotta check the REAL stuff, I shouldn't have anything for that. I'll delete all.

I'll go through the rest of your post. I am not sure if it picked up all the open explorer windows I had going trying to work the issue while the verifying files and so on was going on. Prolly caused a lot of issue there.

I'll clean all I see up first, post another hijackthis, and see if anything changes. Doubt it though because of the sudden problems when it's been working with it for so long. I digress.

Be back shortly. THANKS AGAIN ALL OF YOU. YOU ROCK!

If you're talking about the CoHCrashReport, *CoH crashed without *running. I was trying to run in Windowed Mode' and it completely crashed with 'send microsoft a report' which is the report I gave you. Erring on the side of TMI, which maybe should be ignored... since that was the 'windowed run' and that error report didn't occur when the original issue ensued, and when I got it back to the original issue negating the cohcrash issue.

edited where * noted

Trying to make headway. Been removing a lot of dead weight programs, especially hijacking durned toolbars, they really upset me. I didn't realize there were so many, or any.

Gonna post a new HijackThis. Hoping to see some improvement. Since the Logitech issue is prolly not connected to this, I'll wait until I fix this fiasco.

OK, seriously, I have found where all the spyware lurks, and have pretty much irradicated that.

But I'm gettin really upset.

Thinking about nuking my hard drive and starting over.

I have a slipstreamed xp SP3 with xlipstreamed CoH (slightly out of date).

Just might do it. Things seem way out of hand.

Absolutely the right way to go. Your registry got hammered with extraneous stuff. Make sure you have a Windows install disk. Then back up data. Then reformat the hard drive. Then reinstall Windows, your programs and your data. As you install programs, keep running HijackThis after each install and see what each program is doing to your start up registry. Nuke the aggressive ones that install without your permission. A well behaved program does not run in the background at all. It loads when you start it. Then completely unloads when you exit it.

See here for understanding the HijackThis report.

Actually, for older machines, the above process does wonders to speed everything up in the game!

Yeah, Thanks Zombie_Man. I was getting a quick refresher crash course on cleaning things up, learned a few things even. Computer hardware and software (building, fixing, etc) is my background, so I'm not too worried about it. A hassle is all, as you know.

I do have most if not all of my data files on a removable hard drive, so the backup is a breeze too.

That's what I'm gonna do. But I haven't slept in about 30 hours or so, so I think I'll start on it tomorrow. Not so delirious to do something that DUMB. lol

Thanks again for your input. Good to hear I am on the right track.

On the other hand, I'll be really upset if this turns out to be a CoH issue. Ohhhhh..... madder'n a wet hornet I tell you!!!
