New PC has more lag and longer loads than old.

So my new PC takes almost twice as long to load as my old one.

Went from Vista 32 2.0 ghz cpu, and 3 gigs of ram to vista 64, 2.6 ghz and 8 gigs of ram

Here's a COH gelper and Hihackthis

Not sure what the hell is happening

And yes I'm running SP2, and I have not had any of the crashes that I first had with my 9800 when it first came out.

** updated the highjack this and the COH helpers after doing a little cleanup, yet issue is still going on **

First COHelper
I have tried to update it to the latest version. Yet every link I find brings me to a blank screen...

:-D

But all jokes aside any and all help would be much appreciated!

Welll, basically entering or exiting missions has almost doubled (more like X1.5 going in x2 going out to city map)

Not a huge deal but a little aggravating since this comp is a good chunk faster than the old one.

And I have been getting major hits of lag, freezing up when I'm moving across maps (nowhere near the BM or WW or AE). Now people I was teaming with didn't hit those lag spikes, and the other comp in the house was turned off at the time, so its not like that would have been eating up bandwith on me. And it wasn't at peak gaming times (wed say 1pm EST)

Guess I'm just frustrated. And I didn't build the comp, my friend did... so err yeah..

Since you mention the other computer in the house, are you using a router? If so, try rebooting it.

Are your Network card drivers up to date? If not, see if newer drivers are available. I recently was working on a new computer one of my campus secretaries bought since her old one was a steaming pile starting to have hard drive issues. Her old computer has no problems staying online with the cable modem. My laptop has no trouble staying online with the cable modem. I tried putting in one of my spare routers and it seems to work much better on her new computer, but there are still occaisional drops that make no sense. So we updated her Network card drivers and it seems to have resolved the problems. Apparently the newer NIC had auto-negotiation issues with the modem that the other NIC's didn't have. The router inline helped buffer the negotiation issues.

It could also be that you may need a firmware upgrade on the router if you have one. The communications issues may be coming from the router and a firmware upgrade may resolve it.

I'm not sure about this kind of stuff, but why are there so many lines of services listed that have 'Unknown Owner' and (file missing) in them?

Those have me curios as well, but I'll let the HJT experts comment on those.

The stuff with the Winsock LSP's has me curious as well.

Texas, I'll look into the network card drivers in the AM, its 1130 now my time and I've gotta be up at 5am :-(

I know the router is fine because it was play on old machine one day, put new machine next day and instant slowdown situation,

Telstar, those things, I have no idea..... maybe they happened from windows easy transfer?

I'm too lazy to physically click and drag everything so I liked the two PCs together and did that... well worth the price of the cable!

If you have them linked in a network, are they both vista machines? If one is an xp, that could be the problem. IIRC, they don't always mesh well when networked together. It's possible that they are trying to share files that they can't really share because of the different OS. Just a thought.

Vista is a secretive little beast, and those unknowns and missing are due to it's disallowing information retrievals and masking file locations, respectively. They're there, it's fine... I ignore them now, it's what the files *are* that's more important.

In regards to the problem... The machine ought to rock, but it doesn't. The other machine's video card and chipset might be in order, as well as the processor. Don't suppose you can post the same logs as you did for this new machine, can you? It would help in comparing what's going on.

However, I can say this: The *less* you have going on in the background (Itunes, Antivirus, notifiers...) the more time the cores will have to deal with Co*. Might want to disable some stuff via MSConfig, perhaps.

Personally I'd check your memory manufacturer's website for default timing and voltage settings. I was having similar issues and came to find out that my memory was getting 0.2 volts than it was rated for. As a result, my BIOS was reading my DDR2 1066 as DDR2 667.

The other problem with AMD dual core proc's is that with the Cool and Quiet settings enabled, they typically slow down when they decide their full processing power isn't needed. Disabling this will make your CPU fan run full blast, but 3,000 rpms shouldn't be too loud. I'd also check out their Dual Core Optimizer download.

And also be aware that a 64-bit OS has more CPU overhead than a 32-bit system; so a 64 bit OS will generally run slower than a 32bit unless the app is optimized, and I doubt CoX is.

This is worth checking, and it begs another question.

Has your friend even successfully built other systems? Did your friend try to overclock anything on your machine?

howdy guys, thanks for all the input..... I'll answer things in some sort of order...

I'm running out the door to work and won't be able to mess with the ram settings till after work..

as far as getting a hijackthis off the old machine, that's not possible as it was gutted for parts. Thing is my powersupply went wonky on that one and messed up my mobo. after the PS replacement (thing would just not power up), it stopped recognizing some of the ram. I had tried swapping the ram around (was a 3 gig setup 512 x2 and 1g x 2) and nothing 2 of the sockets were shot.

yes it was a vista machine, and no they're no longer hooked up together, I just transfered my music, photos, settings etc over.

Yes my friend has built other machines no problems.

Would you suggest I disable the cool and quiet?
How the hell do I do this?!? lol

the mobo is an asus m4n72-e
and the ram is http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...ey=%09O261-8038

in case that link doesnt work its part number O261-8038
and nothing was overclocked on this thing

I think that about covers everything

thanks again!

Here's the link for the motherboard.

At first I was wondering if this part was a problem, *Due to AMD CPU limitation, DDR2 1066 is supported by AM3/AM2+ CPU for one DIMM per channel only, but your RAM is 800 MHz.

Before you go messing with the CPU settings, verify that your RAM timing and voltage are correct. Be sure it is 2.1v per the OCZ page.

If the timings are all correct, then maybe the issue is from the Serial Presence Detect feature of your OCZ RAM. From what I can see, your ASUS MB doesn't support that feature.

If all other leads given thus far don't pan out, it wouldn't hurt to look in the OCZ forum or maybe even ask their tech support about it.

Thanks Bayblast

I was just messing with my bios and saw that my ram was running at 677, not 800, so i upped that, and I also shut down the quiet and cool in there...

unfortunately due to real life, I'm not going to be able to play test it till tomorrow night...

thanks again to everyone for the help/suggestions... and one thing I've noticed is just from upping the speed of the ram, and shutting down quiet/cool my machine has loaded up faster and even my mouse is now flying when I haven't changed any of the settings from this morning.

Just checking in to see where you're at... believe me I know how psyched up you can be to get new hardware and want to see it run your games better than the last one did

Thanks for checking in, sadly due to real life, I haven't had much of a chance to do much play testing.... so far was able to get in game a little bit and no major issues but the game was very underpopulated at the time. So even the slowest of machines would have a little boost.

But on a side note when looking for a new defrag program I came across a thing called "IOBIT Game Booster" free program that'll basically automatically shut down any non needed programs, alot easier than going down the line and shutting them down manually...

Also if I may vent just for total aggravation and anger. I was looking for a good DVD ripping program. I recently inherited a P.O.S. lap top. And I mean really bad, I'm scared to run minesweeper on this let alone COH. But its good to play vids on, my idea was to rip DVD's bring them to work on a flash and boom, a way to kill time. So here's where I'm an IDIOT.

I'm looking at some programs at bestbuy on my lunch break and the kid there tells me "nero9 will rip anything its what I use" and thankfully idiot me doesn't buy it on the spot.

Get home load up, I know I have nero 6 because it came with my DVD burner, click the upgrade link in the program (much cheaper than the boxed version)

Now here is where I REALLY screw this up (I have no one to blame but me, just gotta vent to someone) nowhere on the page does it say that there is a trail version. And it also states that you can back up your movies to your harddrive etc etc, no where does it say it can't do copy protected dvd's.

Grumbe grumble grumble

OK better sorry but on a lighter note thanks for checking in!

Ahh I hear that... what you may want to look into for ripping dvd's though is DVDShrink and DivX.

Divx is pretty widely available and tutorials are a google search away, and you can get DVD Shrink from MajorGeeks.com.

This would also give a pretty good benchmark on how your new system is running as the video conversion process can be pretty CPU intense. Multitasking while it's converting video is usually painfully slow on a single proc, best left to be done overnight while sleeping.

Oh i had that planned, and just ran a cap SF no lag problems at all just a MEH team

thanks for the link.... I already have divx and a trial of magic dvd ripper (gonna test it tonight) and dvd decrypter, so lets see how it goes...

And I had planned on doing it overnight, or while having dinner etc...
