New to game, have a couple of questions
Elec/ Has a few good eearly AOE's. Have you gone to the Guides section, and read any of the Elec/* guides there?
There are a few good ones.
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

You should try the super strength/Will power combo. Its a very good combo for a "beginner" and one of the better overall combos available to a brute in the first place. I wouldnt say its the best dps build but its one of the best. I use the term beginner loosely though as it just means its a very user friendly and straightforward build
Without going into great detail Super strength hits VERY hard and willpower offers 2 ways to recover stamina (if you count fitness pool, but who doesnt =D) as well as retardedly good hp generation and a survival tools.
Its hard to say what the "best dps build" is anyway as that particular subject is subjective but elec melee is rather dissapointing no matter how you slice it, it doesn't fill any role very well =(. Of course that's my opinion but its from experience.
If you want a heavy hitter primary and don't like super strength then there is always stone melee, nothing like shaking the computer screen every time you use a power =D, fire melee or either of the weapon brutes minus dual blades which is a good set just not a heavy hitter.
DPS against a single target or multiple? Burst or sustained?
I wouldn't go elec/elec for a first brute, it's really not one of the stronger builds against typical content, especially not until level 35.
Willpower is a great secondary for Brutes, very strong and very user-friendly. Highly recommended.
For single target damage, the kind of thing you need most soloing, Stone Melee is good. For area damage, Super Strength is good, but doesn't get that way until level 32.
Most of the rest of the primaries are reasonably balanced, and any of them work very nicely with Willpower if you have a good character concept. SS/WP is easily the most common Brute in the game these days.
I know what what you mean Electric feels slow. And the sounds makes me feel like I missed even when I hit. lol
You'll like SS, plays very fast and smooth, it's more single target set then most until you get footstomp but those STs don't live long.
Fire Melee has highest DPS and highest dam/end use.
I like DM feels tough and I like the look.
As for secondary.. rock and dark are end hogs and will drive you nuts slotting endreducs till higher lvls.
WP and inv are both great sets with any primary and will make you feel very powerful, thier biggest downfall in my opinion is you will want every power in the set. lol
I haven't played much with reflexes, but when I did I had a blast. It's very quick and like elec comes with that 20% rech and move bonus.
I dissagree, while there are things I don't like about elec it's avery strong set. Ask the group of 30 MoBs still standing doing their emotes and taunt even tho they have no hit points due to a sudden bolt of lightning.. or the big boss who can't fire his alpha because he has no end.
True damage is subjective as it depends what ressistance the enemy has to your damage type, but highest DPS is and has been calculated.. and is with no doubt fire.. on side note another # cruncher crunched all the NPC data and found fire is the least ressisted in the PVE game followed by NRG I believe.

I agree with you there, i just didnt personally like the feel of elec and it was just rather boring to me even after LR. But like i said it was imo =D. What I mean by dps being subjective is that while fire has the most dps there are so many variables including what mobs you are fighting vs what secondary you have vs control vs survivability with paring the correct prim/second vs etc etc etc, i felt it was best to just suggest ss/wp because its all smash and very straightforward =D.
I love the look and feel of Electric, and I don't notice any problem on the Damage end.
I play an Elec/WP right now, and having a great time with him.
And personally - Lightning Rod is one of the Coolest, Flashiest powers I've seen.

"The tip of a shoelace is called an aglet, its true purpose is sinister." The Question
What do you want to do, single damage DPS or AoE?
Elec is great for aoe, but you won't see huge numbers against any 1 target.
I've been gone for awhile but i'm pretty sure energy is still the best single target damage, late game.
Super strength is a great mix overall. Its all smashing dmg, but you can build fury very easily, and do some great damage especially with rage and knockout blow.
I have an energy/electric brute that is sick, his only problem is no self heal.
I'm currrently working on a SS/Shield which doesnt seem to be doing bad so far. Although i've never been a fan of defense based protection, so we'll see.
Nice, thanks for the input so far. I may go SS/WP then as that seems solid to start off with. I do like the idea of Fire, as well, but I guess I can respec (I blv that is an option in the game, right? heh heh I downloaded the game so I have no manual.) later once Im up in levels a bit.

Just from my personal experience of leveling a fire/ brute to 32, its lackluster compared to the other primaries. just an fyi
You can respec, but you only change your power selections, order, and slotting within the primary/secondary you originally picked.
A SS/WP Brute will be SS/WP forever.
Have fun, there are a few guides to SS/WP in the guides and FAQs post, worth a look before you get too far.

If single-target DPS is what you're looking for, check the threads linked in my sig; which one you want to look at depends on how much you plan on investing into your character.
AoE damage is a bit harder to quantify since you have to account for the time getting the mobs in the AoE instead of simply smashing the mob you have targetted into a thin paste on the ground.
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

you cant respec to different primaries or secondaries once just different power choice in the powers you originally chose. SS/WP is a fun spec. it levels fast and rather easy. IMO level that one and use it as an infamy farmer for other toons. In theory Fire/shield defense will put out some really awesome aoe and single target damage but is a late bloomer and takes some infamy to make really good. So use the ss/wp to fund the fire/sd =D. Just a suggestion.
My friend and I decided to play CoH/CoV until Champions comes out. I am playing a Brute and rolled a few different ones but cant seem to find my niche. Was curious if anyone could give me input on what the best build is for DPS. I went Elec/Elec because I had read it was good overall but am not sure if I like it.
Any info. would be appreciated.
