I Love my new markers!

I've been staring puppy eyed at the copic markers at my local art store for a while. trying to justify spending $10 (AUD) each on the colors I wanted. so I decided to take the plunge and grab a couple. both shades of Grey and I am SO glad I did. I love em!

As a side note it inspired me to try em out so I took some of the volunteers from my sketch of the day thread ( well one of them volunteered the other just commented) and did up some portraits of them.

Detest For Milk Weasel

VexXxa for VexXxa

hope you guys like em!

don't be down trodden if you posted your character in my sketch thread and I haven't done them. as well as scratching up these 2 i also did 5 others from in there that I am going to finish and post within the week so keep an eye out!

In summary copic good.

I adore my Copics. And yeah, they are expensive pretty much anywhere but Japan.

I saved up for months for a set of 72, but have 90-some now.

Nice marker experiments!

I have a set of 24 ShinHan twin markers. I haven't used any other markers, so I don't know how they compare. I am a marker noob, so I wouldn't know the difference anyway.

I brought my markers to life drawing once. While I am fumbling around, not sure what color to use where, this guy walks in late, sits next to me, and starts doing these amazing drawings with just 4 markers. It was the first time I saw someone using markers there, too. That was a couple of months ago, and I haven't touched my markers since. To think of it, I also haven't been to life drawing. To be fair, I think he had markers dedicated for skin tones, but it was so embarassing, lol.

Copics are amazing, I first learned of them from seeing David Nakayama use them in his con sketches, and since then it's trippy to hear of other artists, some of them well known comic artists pick up and get so thrilled about them.

Awesome to see more Copic art

...strange, I just bought most of the gray scale copics from 10% up to 90% for less than $12.00 plus the blend copic that basically does nothing more than let me stretch a shade to white than really blend anything -_-; Spent like $1.80 a pen for six. Regular price here is ~$4.00 for generics and ~$5.00 for anything namebrand copic. But $10? o_O Wow. And like, a full 72ish Set is only like $80 Maybe that just doesn't seem expensive to me...

Not that I'm an expert on such things, but...in the US at least, a set of 72 (copics) goes for something like $300.

Unless those sets were being sold by a guy in a white van or something.

WOW ELE!! I love the portrait! You are the first to take on VexXxa's image and I totally love it! Especially the little heart shape around her mouth, which you probably didn't realize was there. Kind of like a subliminal image saying that even though Vex is a villain, she still has a heart.

I am honored you chose her to be one of your models for your new markers. I cannot wait to see the others you use your markers on.

Again, I say thank you.

Copic Copic yeah, like $330 for the set. But a store here has a "store brand" that they sell off and on for half the price (or more when it comes to sets). While it may not be consistently cheap, they have stuff on "sale" so often that it's not hard to catch them pretty cheap.

Quick Edit Addition: Thought I'd mention I did take a look to see if I could find what I was talking about but they don't put the store brands on their site (wonder why ) so I couldn't link to it, but I was amused at the fact that the costs for original copics are listed over $5 nearly $6 a piece and even a set of 12 with "x free markers included to a total of 12" listed at over $50.00.

I'll stick to my generic brand that's just as good

Copic IS a brand, so if you say "Copic markers", anyone will generally assume that you're talking about the ACTUAL Copic markers, not any marker ever.

And from having a set of Prismacolor to going to Copics, I'd have to say that there's a definite brand difference. Not only do the Copics have a much MUCH better color selection, but they blend like a dream. They also have better nibs, and are re-fillable.

Is the brand, yeah, but have quickly become the type in general for some for being the first of their type and thus kind of filtering across the board when it comes to describing them. ~shrug~ Either way, yes, I was talking about store-brand variations. With which I sat in the store for fifteen minutes playing with dozens of both and the difference was minimal, especially when broken down to my only wanting gray scale ones at the time. The only major difference I found between the ones I purchased and the original-copics was their blending abilities which, while somewhat "neh", wasn't overall that big a deal for me. I didn't even touch Prismacolor ones so I can't speak for those.

I'm really enjoying working with these at the moment but I don't think that I'll ever get the full set of colors. Ill probably just get the Grey scale

Another test (not a forum personality this time sorry guys)
