Rambo style Protector bots

Now I'm used to some of my henchmen deciding to forego the use of their ranged weapon, choosing to melee instead (yes medic I am looking at you) but have never encountered it on a bots MM before.

Things have apparently changed, as my protector bot now, seemingly at random, decides to leave its space next to me and run right into melee range of its target. It just sits there, occasionally healing and bubbling backwards (all the other bots are now behind it) and then will shoot the target at point blank range.

Its not like the prot bots even have a melee attack (at least not one that I have seen), causes the prot bot to get wiped a lot of the time which is annoying.

Not sure if its due to a lack of any power recharged enough to use (ie everyone is bubbled, no-one is hurt and non of its attacks are recharged) so maybe it only has 1 option - movement.

Only have the 1 prot bot atm, gonna see if the behaviour occurs when I have both of them and wether it happens with both upgrades. Maybe more powers available means less charging to stand next to the target...

Just throwing this out there in case others are seeing this as well, if anyone does have a solution, it would be much appreciated.

Is it running out of end?

You do need to slot an end reducers into it so that it won't blow away all of it's end with it's attacks. If memory serves this only was really needed after the 2nd upgrade, but can't remember if it was also necessary after the first one.

Yeah, prot bots have been doing that for me since I13. It's been talked about a lot here.

Just /bug it as usual. Sometime in the future a Dev might just toss a crappy brawl on the pet to make the bug seem less like a bug, and more like the pet deciding to melee.

Usually I find that this happens if the Protbot is the one that pulled aggro, and only after it has fired its first attack.

Don't tell your probot to attack. Keep him in defensive follow or goto, and this problem really never happens.

Wrong actually.

Even in go to or follow he will sometimes run up into melee range and fire off attacks.

Never seen a huge issue with this, and I've teamed with dozens of bots masterminds. It's always the drones that get out of line.

If it's that big a deal, just map a bind to bring your probots back into line (eg. /petcom_pow pr follow defensive) which will stop their combat AI for a few seconds and force them to return.

I've seen this problem with my Protectors (six-slotted with Blood Mandate), tried re-commanding them for Def/Follow and about the half the time they actually just ignore the command and stay where they are. I don't think they're running out of End at all when it happens.

They do however stop shooting at point blank range at that point until aggro'd again though, regardless of whether they come back to me or not. Go figure.

Edited to add slotting info

I agree, don't think its an end related issue, seems to affect both prot bots equally, when I reach 32 will try and see if the 2nd upgrade makes any difference.

Will probably try all combo's (1 upgrade, no upgrades, both upgrades) again to see if it makes any odds.

I've been keeping an eye on what may trigger the prot bots to charge forward (seemingly randomly) and it may have something to do with LoS. Not always but often if the prot bots is blocked from the target by me or the ffg or another bot, that seems to trigger its sprinting frenzy.

Wonder if it gets blocked from its target and so then moves to the targets last known position.

*shrug* at this moment it could any number of things, up to and including its happening because today has a 'y' in it.

whatever they changed to make the bruiser not sit there and just chuck rocks has had the added side affect of making all of the other pets - when out of powers to cycle - have a high chance of running to melee. the arsonist is especially suicidal now. if it wasnt for the fact that the enforcers and other two tier 1 thugs have very fast recharging attacks they'd all be running to melee.

on my bots i've had issues with all of them running to melee. drones, probot and the assault bot.

It's not actually even a real problem unless you're soloing AVs.

It's not a serious issue, just something that causes you to be slightly more aware when playing bots.

It's a known issue. I think it may be because their ranged attacks aren't cycling fast enough, and since they dont have anything to do, some default AI probably given to all the hench tells them to run into melee (maybe because many pets do have a brawl attack). I've noticed I dont really have any problems with them running into melee after lv. 32, though they used to get stuck on seeker drones, but I've heard the devs fixed that for issue 15, so that will be cool.
