Regarding the Rumors of my Departure

I'm making fun of you because you have SPECIFICALLY said that the people on the forums, and in-game, are nothing more than pixels to you.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes I did, because honestly when I play that is all they are to me. I see nothing wrong with being honest about that, as I am sure others feel the same way and dont have the guts to say it. Though I will admit that playing with my RL friends, is a different game altogether. [ QUOTE ]

No one expects you to call people a friend, nor do they expect you to know the, but people DO expect you to not mock them for forming friendships with the same people. Everyone pretty much knows how you work, Markus. I'm not even sure why you think anyone expects anything of you.

[/ QUOTE ] Which is what I intended[ QUOTE ]

We all know you've made very few friends over the course of your five years, but that's because of your attitude towards the people you play with, not any other reason.

[/ QUOTE ]It is for another reason. It is because I chose not to make friends, cause there is no reason at all to trust anyone you interact with on the net. I think if you do, then you are foolish.[ QUOTE ]

Also, no one expects their life to overrule yours, and I'm at a complete loss to even comprehend where you even got that notion.

As for people thinking it's 'retarded'? Who gives a [censored] what they think?

[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly my point. Why would you care about what a bunch of people you dont know, think or say.....you know...like all the people who play this game and talk on these forums.....[ QUOTE ]
They probably also think that smoking is good for you and that the Internet is a series of tubes. In other words, they have no sense of reality and the basic functions of societal change.

[/ QUOTE ]No they simply see things from their own perspective, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is in our nature to judge others, and for some it is in our nature to value those judgments. I simply do not.

So, it was foolish of me to befriend YOUR RL friend, Liv? Really? One of the people I've met from this game who has a front row seat to my wedding?

Jesus, you are a sad little man, aren't you?

Wait. Holy [censored], wait one minute. You think it's foolish to trust and befriend someone you meet online, and then you went and married one? Wow. My goddamned irony button just detonated.

There are exceptions to everything. You lucked out 'cause Will is an awesome guy. But he could have been a dewsh trying to steal your underpants.

I also lucked out cause my wife is amazing! (especially cause she puts up with my rants after I type to you)

But for the most part, I think it is far more wise to treat the internet, and the people on it with skepticism, rather than open armed friendship.

Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

Where are you getting that ANYONE here is treating anyone with anything other than a long-grown friendship built over the course of a common interest?

That is how EVERY friendship starts. Seriously. If you have friends, you've built them over a common interest, be that location, activity or intellect. The friendships formed here are no different, and I'm pretty sure that most people here understand that people aren't always what they may claim to be, but ya know what? Who cares? If you enjoy the company of that person, while in-game, or here on the boards, ultimately, what does it matter?

I think you take yourself entirely too seriously, and you MAY want to put down Atlas Shrugged: it's not how the real world works.

Edit: Also, if your wife has to put up with your rants after posting back and forth with me, you just invalidated the notion that I'm nothing more than a pixel.

So the big difference between making friends online and any other way, is that online you can fake it easily, really easily. So IMO it is less of a good idea to trust people.
Simple as that.

You became friends with Liv, but he wouldnt be coming to your wedding, unless you spoke with him on the phone first a few times.

I am not going to go through the effort of meeting people online, only to have to re-meet them in another form to get verification. I accept that you will, and I accept that it has worked out for you. But I just do things differently. That doesn't make me wrong, I just see things in a different way.

I could be wrong, but you seem to be taking this a little harder than I intended, so lets just agree to disagree, and leave it at that. I wish you many internet friends, and I hope none of them try to steal your underpants.

Edit: You are more than a pixel (to me) because Liv is my best friend and I trust his judgment. It gives you credibility. Also you are sort of taking it out of context. I was originally referring to in game people, as I generally treat team mates like extra Balder's Gate characters. All I care about is that they do there jobs, I dont want to know them, or chat with them. In fact my ideal TF is done with other vets in silence. We do the missions get the rewards, and move on. It was then translated to forums, because I tend not to remember the people whom I am arguing with.

Hey guys, who the frack cares? Seriously! Some people dig online friendships, others don't. It's perfectly okay to have a difference of opinion on the matter. If you're of the latter opinion, you're always welcome just to ignore threads like these and move along.

Please do me a favor and take this argument to a new thread or to PMs? Neither the time nor the place for such arguments.

On the contrary, this is the perfect time and place for such an argument.

However, we already have taken it off here, so we beat you to the punch.

I only wanted to ensure that it didn't continue on here so the thread wouldn't get nuked for a perceived flame war. Thanks guys for taking it elsewhere, you have my utmost thanks an appreciation.

BTW...I've been on this game for 2 1/2 years and have had the pleasure of "meeting" many fine individuals. I've had varying levels of personal interaction with these folks...some I've had met personally, some I've chatted with on team chat and/or the telephone, some I've never had the pleasure of meeting or chatting with. Some I've known for many years on COH, others I've known IRL for many years prior. The nature of each relationship varies from individual to individual, but I can say one thing for certain...all of these individuals I consider friend. Given the inquiries I received regarding the original topic of this thread from those I consider friends, I felt enough individuals showed such concern to give me cause to let my Justice friends what was going on to set the record straight.

Glad to hear it! I wanted to mention what I referred to as my CoH savings plan. I honestly saved $5000 over the course of 6 months by playing CoH and not spending money on other frivilous things. So even if times are tight, you do need your internet, you've already bought the game, so for less than $15 a month, you're set

I can only imagine how your job has been hit by the downturn. Hopefully as the economy starts getting out of the hole, they're going to need even more commercial real estate appraisers to help straighten out where we are. (My folks have worked with home real estate appraisers for over 20 years here in Kansas, so I know what it's been like lately--and we're not hit half as bad here).

So glad to hear you're staying esp. since I finally got to meet you last night for Merm & Philly's lady's night! You definitely can't leave now!
