Worth pulling a Fire/Dev out of mothballs?
Here is the Fire/Dev build that I have, and love, as of level 45 anything after that is planned on, and the build was not that expensive, but the most fun thing about it is that I don't get hit. Just as long as I stay at range I am good. Throw down some caltrops and I am good I fought 2 +1 bosses the other day without a problem I think I only got hit once, other than that it was a lot of deflected, dodge, etc going across my screen. I love I feel like a Blaster when I play this toon, but more than anything I love the concept.
On teams I am usually just Blasting and depending on if we have a good Tank I am Toe Bombing/Mini Nuking.

One slight change though the KB protect in body armor is really the +3 defense for the PVP IO, and Gun Drone has Expedient Reinforcement. Other than that I think everything looks good

I would say give it a try if you aren't liking it delete and do something else not everything is for everyone.

I would totally suggest leveling up the fire/dev blaster. It was one of the most well rounded and fun blasters i've played to date.

Fire will definitely hold its own, and devices is icing on the cake when it gets higher. I say give it a go, unless you just can't stand it. There are some things you grow to love and some playstyles you never will. First and foremost, fire is one of the ultimate blasters. Devices(to me) is one of the ultimate fun sets as far as being cool. It's not necessarily the best, but it's fun. I have never played one, but I have a traps MM and they are similar. I like having the ability to set people up while other stuff is going on around me. I can only imagine as a fire blaster, that "other stuff" will be people dying. try to follow through to about 28 or so and if you don't like it, delete. I don't delete much but when a character is deserving to me...it really is deserving.

I kinda agree with this but you don't get trip mine til 35 and when you have Smoke Grenade, Cloaking Device, Trip Mine that is a pretty nice mini nuke you can set off there sometimes takes minions right out of the fight, great way to start a battle.

I loved my fire/dev by level 10/12 when i got flares, fire blast, fireball, fire breath, caltrops and targetting drone.
Blaze and RoF were the next gravy on the cake. I run with DOs till 32, and i had zero problems till then. You probably need to respec and relocate some slots/powers. See above build and i can't imagine you having very many problems.
FYI i use a stealth IO to go with cloaking device. Its not really necessary for tirp mines, but if you wanna time bomb the mob you'll want it. Saves the power slot on smoke bomb.

When slotted for damage you get about 300 damage per target and 50% chance for 400, plus on top of that you get an extra 26% added damage to the next couple of attacks. I would say is it worth the 4 sec cast time.

No, you said you dont get "trip mine" till 35, I was correcting. Trip mine is at 28, time bomb is at 35.

As mentioned i don't even use SOs till 32 if i even do now half the time with IOs. And i never had any problems leveling my fire/dev on just DOs. With SOs at that level of course it would be better. Just saying the combo is just plain AMAZING IMO.
Targetting drone really is impressive for this. No acc problems, good mitigation with caltrops and good damage from fire. Magnifique!

Definitely give it a shot. I'm personally not a fan of fire/dev myself, but lots of people swear by it.
Was poking through my character slots, thinking of making a blaster, and realized I had a lvl 21 Fire/Dev sitting there that I rolled up back in 2005 (has his Celebrant Badge). I don't do Blueside much, so is that something worth keeping for more than just nostalgia?
