Archiving for future generations

I love how the Archiving for the future thread is FULL of butthurt and "No we dident" "Yes you did" drama. Cant people ACTUALLY put the drama on the shelf for one thread and talk about how the high end PvP has evolved. Like lineups teams ran. Epic team battles. Things like that. Not "Hey our team team was the best but somthingorotherdrama stoped us from being so."

Sure, like After School Special for example.

One time, during a practice match with Awesome Avengers, Egotistic went randomnly afk without notice. Although she was one of the empaths, we actually did better without her there.

I say: Ego?

... 3 minutes later, Ego: Sorry about that guys, my chicken fingers were done.

I read an article today on espn.com about how the NBA a long time ago was a lot more physical and, even though more punches or elbows were thrown, there was still a lot of respect amongst the players.

Someone told me the smacktalk was part of the fun. Most of the time, it wasn't personal, but it allowed both teams to dislike each other so they did their absolute bestest to destory the other team. I think that is something very important we need future generations to see. Even though my group didn't really get involved with the 'friendly banter' other teams would throw at us - it did make us want to farm certain people more so than other (Sorry Yosef and Ownage). They may not have been the easiest kills - but those kills usually gave us a big jolt and sometimes turned a loss in the match into a personal win for the group.

That said - I would like to hear other groups sooper sekrit strategies that helped their respective groups succeed. Since the old strategies are utterly worthless in the new PvP, it makes for good debate and discussion.

I'll pose a question for other groups: When your teams saw that dUmb was running storms, did your lineups change at all or did you practice differently?

I liked when teams ran storms against us because i always felt we had the beating of storm teams. If they didnt normally run storms and then ran one against us, i felt they knew we would win. We actually had some good stormies in JAL and knew how to play against storms pretty well. We pretty much stayed around the outside away from the canes, got a target came in killed it got the hell out. That was the plan anyway.

At one stage in JAL we had 2 seperate teams, one was a storm team and one was run and gun, it was at this time alot of [censored] was happening and in the end alot of people left mainly from the storm team, supposedly lead by me, not one of my finer moments lol...i dont think too many could of kept it together though, (no, really!) and the two teams kind of merged but it did mean we all had alot of practice with storms one way or another.

The Freaks flying turtle was a bit different, some of our team was apprehensive about that because we didnt really know what to expect and most felt it was really lame...i thought it was great myself.

As far as the smack talk went, it did inspire us to try really hard to beat Velocity, it was very different agaisnt them than against other teams for most of our members, it certainly was for me. They were a great team though.

We ran two rad or two sonic most of the time, except the 3 rad/2 sonic team. I wanted to run a 5 sonic team but it was deemed too cheesy lol. The odd time in the two rad team 1 rad and 1 blaster would split off from the main target callers and put pressure on either the other teams emp, blaster or rad..cant remember which but it was way too confusing on vent. We tried a sonic + grav/ff and a grav/ff+ rad too i think, memory is a bit hazy it nearly worked well but was lacking a little bite from the extra -res. Spec (not the OS one) was great on his grav/ff, so annoying.

If the other team really fell apart Pesky would call for us to go rogue, which was always fun. He would still call targets but it was fine to just attack whoever at that point.

Shenanigans

LotD - JaL - POWT/SMD - SoCo - AJs

Yanno that is ironic. Same thing happened once when A.S.S.>> had a match against I don't remember who. Hot filled in because we were short an emp and he went afk for over half the match and left me to solo emp in the lab. The entire match all we heard was Brynn screaming at the top of her lungs for Hot to answer her on vent.

Whirligig had the play everyone who practices and shows on match night. it didn't work well for us but i felt it was the right thing to do so i did and we lost... frequently. We did have a good time though. We tried a lot of different lineups but do to a general laziness on our part most of our disruption and other toons weren't fully accoladed and their pilots weren't experienced on them but we had fun.

Basically we were willing to give anyone a shot regardless of experience and we often paid the price. We got help from the Freaks, Velocity, JAL, and OS but I think JAL worked with us the most and I think we were starting to get things figured out (long way from there) when we all bailed thanks to closed beta.

What Mirage called rogue I called "ducks in a barrel" but it was almost exclusively on live, but funny.

Infinity and Victory mostly
dUmb, etc.
lolz PvP anymore, Market PvP for fun and profit

The time of the match being the same night may have quite possibly been arranged that way intentionally between Ajax and Johnny, I dunno. However...

lol @ OS being so important that we would actually throw a match so PX could be in 2nd place for your match.

It amazes me how everyone always said PE sucked so bad but then turn around and question whether PX actually beat us fairly.

[/ QUOTE ]

umm I never said PE sucked. It was intentionally arranged that way Johnny said it, he said something to the effect that PX deserved to be #2 and would send pst's to Rogue about how smart it was to arrange it so we would fight them and not worry about losing #1. It was nothing to do with OS being important or not it was Johnny being in love with Ajax's nuts. PE was #2 - instead of challenging us for #1 Johnny arranged a match with them on the same night they fought dumb for #3.

like I said we will never know if you tried or not since it was the first time every I can recall an official was fought with no observers on.

[/ QUOTE ]

That is a little weird. I understand practices being this so others can see the teams your running but an official. That is more than a little fishy.

Posted

I think it says a lot about a SG when they can switch out players and still beat their comopetition.

Posted

Technically 'No Obs' is not an optional rule, you HAVE to allow observers in an official. For good reason. They claimed it was an accedent an everyone just let it slide.

Posted

i think we should retroactively change the rankings

Posted

we used to have officals with the no OB on due to peeps crashing, it used to be standard practice when the arena crashes were more common

Yes, because painting finger nails or what color was only a one time conversation by Brynn & Ego or A.S.S.............

Anyone who was ever a member of A.S.S. can appreciate the humor of fingernail painting in any context being it was a CONSTANT topic on the boards and on vent.

I haven't seen Stryker since lol Pinnacle broke up during I13 beta but Sabs was on about two weeks ago.

Well I was referring to the chicken fingers incident, but I forgot they continued conversations like that among the rebound players.
