This seems as good a place as any other to ask this.

I have read online about a CoH RPG (pen and paper) coming out from eden studios.

Anyone know if this has been produced or if it was shelved ?

thanks!

A couple of (much) older threads on the subject. Short answer, appears to be dead.

As far as I know it got shelved a few years ago. Oh well.
Ironically you could probably "simulate" it using your own mods to the HERO System or some such.

Yeah, it's there with the third City of Heroes novel. (Web of Arachnos and The Freedom Phalanx were actually published, but are now out of print.) Also, the CCG, which was published, but as far as I know, I think it's dead, too. Every once in a while, you might even hear about a City of Heroes movie/television show, because the rights were acquired a while back by the Transformers movie guy. As far as anyone can tell, though, it's pretty much dead, too.

It's a shame. I think City of Heroes might really be a good property to merchandise more.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.

Mutants and Masterminds from Green Ronin, based off the d20 system, but goes in all the right directions for fights involving dimensional shifting, supersonic punches, and chucking mountains at each other.

Short version: Straightforward fights, flexible hero design, emphasis on fast action, and well-written overall.

Point build, no classes. Many archetype examples given for typical hero types. "Level Caps" exist to minimize stacking munchkinism. (GM attention is still required to prevent players from layering multiple defense types)

Alternate Powers allow heroes to use an ability (like an ability to generate light) in a bunch of different ways, such as dazzling opponents, nauseating them with strobes, or outright blasting them with lasers.

No Hitpoints, you have a toughness save which allows you to resist damage.
No damage roll. Damage has a set number you do a toughness save against. Thug punched you? Save against 15. Omegaman hit you with the Molecular Phase-Destroyer? Save against 35.

Hero Points/ Extra Effort allow you to reroll dice at critical junctures, or use your powers in strange and weird ways.

Little emphasis on battle grids. When you have people who can teleport miles in a moment, or run at Mach 1, you'd need a big map.

Full-size rulebook in hardcover. Pocket Players Guide available for $15, black and white, contains all a player needs to know.

Genre guides, such as Golden Age, Hero Highschool, Iron Age, Book of Magic, Agents of Freedom, besides being well-written guides to RPing in various comic genres, also contain valuable primers on comic book history, occasionally contrasted with real-world history.

My favourite superhero RPG. Can you tell?

I've heard good things about M&M, but never played it. I strongly suggest HERO system. Literally anything can be done with it. Want THC eyebeams? Yep. The Full Monty Blast, which only affects clothing? uh huh.

Drawback is that HERO is really complicated. Making a character is basically an applied math problem, but once that's done, the system works pretty well.

Also, TriStat is a decent system, FAR less complicated, but, for me anyway, I feel less pure ownership of the character.

HERO has 18 stats. TriStat has (duh) 3. Pick your poison I'd say.

*wonders if she should try making her own full length CoH film*

Hmmmmm... hey, Hickman, wanna work with me on a script?

I also admit to being enough of a Champions/Hero System geek that I've tried converting my CoH characters to a PnP system.

Well that kinda bites.

I never played the hero system before, but If i was going to re-create it with any game system, I would go with Aberrant RPG from While-wolf ( the D10 version, not the D20 PoS )

Necropost much?

I only mentioned the HERO System (17 months ago I might add!?!) because it's the current foundation of the Champions game which is arguably one of most well respected superhero RPGs ever made. Ironically the original creators of City of Heroes cite Champions as one of their main inspriations for creating this MMO.

But obviously you can make whatever you want using whatever rules set you want as a basis for it. Have fun.
