How do I form an MA team: 2 simple questions

Sorry for the n00b questions, but I just want to be able to form my own MA teams. I'm confused about two things:

1) If I want to PUG a story based MA mission, is it best to look at highest rated? Dev Choice? I imagine some of the good 'farm' missions are highly rated so I thought Dev choice might be better.

2) How do I form my team? Does the mission set to my level so I can invite anone lower than me? I am level 39 so everyone gets SK'd to 38? Or do just some maps do that?

TY

If this is readily available data I apologize - I did some digging and could not find the simple 101 for slow witted players like me.

1) I would search by the SFMA tag, and pick one that has a lot of ratings and four stars. That way you get an arc that quite a few people have already checked out and deemed good, and you don't have to gamble your team on an unknown quantity.

2) It will spawn to your level. It will only auto-sk people to the minimum level of the mission, which is given in the description. If you're 39 and choose an arc where all the missions are 1-54, no one will be SKd. If the minimum level is 40, everyone will be SKd up (even you, if you're set to difficulty setting 1 or 2). Again, many SFMA authors are careful to set a consistent level range for their entire arc.

Ah - so the Sk is determined by the rating of the mission - I had no idea. TYVM!

That's not exactly true. A mission will *not* auto SK if it covers a level range that spans below and above the players' native levels. If, however, the mission designer included an NPC that *only* spawns at a specific level range, then the players will be auto-SK'd to the minimum level of that enemy's level range, or their native level, (whichever is higher).

For example:

Player is level 45.
Mission has no specific AV/EB.
Enemies in the mission have a level range of 1-54.
Enemies will be level 45, or possibly a little high if player's difficulty is higher.

Example 2:

Player is level 45.
Mission has a level 52 EB.
Enemies in the mission have a level range of 1-54.
Enemies will be level 52.

As to how to start a team; really you just need to bite the bullet and take charge. Broadcast that you are forming a team for XX level mission, and see who's interested.

I've often found that I prefer running or being on a team that's run a certain way. More often than not, I am unhappy w/ how others run their teams, and so I frequently end up leading my own team.

I just look in the four star section for one that sounds good. Many, many people do not use the tags or even know about them.

Check out one of my most recent arcs:

or one of my other arcs including two 2010 Player's Choice Winners and an2009 Official AE Awards Nominee for Best Original Story

Yeah, I don't really use the tags. Searching 4 stars and avoiding things with stupid titles and obvious badge farm missions is a good way to go.

Honestly, I've found it pretty hard to find teams to run story focused AE missions. Broadcasting rarely works. Period.

First, figure out which mission you want to run, see what level range it is.

Second, send tells out to people near your level, starting with those in the same zone as you, and working your way out. Be sure to mention in your /tell: AE, non-farm or story focused, your level or the level of the arc if its minimum is higher than your level, and which zone you're in.

Ok, so I've followed advice and feedback and had some success. Any fine tuning?

I tend to play MA in two ways - for fun or just to grind some levels.

For Fun:

1) Choose a map that has 5 stars, lots of play, and sounds interesting.
2) Make sure it is higher level than me for auto-sk.
3) Set my diff to level 2 (so lowbies can join and still hit stuff)
4) "/b AE mission team LFM, auto sk to level 40 (or 50 or whatever) level 10-50 welcome, not going for uber xp/sec, just fun 8 man run"

For fast level runs:

1) Choose a level 50-54 mission so everyone can auto sk
2) Set diff to level 2 so we are not creamed by bosses
3) Read the mission text to make sure it is not crazy or exploit-ish (e.g. all Boss farm, UBER LEVEL FARM!, etc.)
4) Look for missions that are on more open maps with a normal minion/lt balance
5) /b AE mission team LFM, auto sk to level 50, level 10-50 welcome, not going for uber xp/sec but will focus on quick fighting

This seems to weed out the loonies who want to crank the difficulty to level 5 and then spend 30 minutes crying for a tank. It also seems to draw people that are more laid back and are willing to run with unusual teams for laughs.

Any advice on picking better missions?

TYVM again. The AE is fun again.
