Nice work killing the Mission Architect
[ QUOTE ]
I think the gripe about having broken missions clogging the search results is valid.
My own mission is broken, and will remain listed but unplayable until I have a chance to to do a significant rewrite (as it used not just one but both of the maps that got yanked last patch). I'd prefer to pull it down until I can fix it, but the way the system works, there's no way to do that without killing the accumulated plays and ratings.

I'm in this boat as well. I've had to redo multiple items in each of my 4 arcs (2 accounts) with each patch that came out, whether it was maps that were taken away or custom factions that were needed to be adjusted. I've had to make new custom units to replace ones that became unbalanced and nigh-unplayable by solo players or lowbies that weren't totally tricked out with IOs. And half the time that friends have tried to run my arcs, they wouldn't load.
Seriously, this fiasco got real old, real fast. If/when they ever figure out what they really want from this system and if it becomes a more stable platform for storytelling as a result, I'll go back in, line-by-line and figure it out yet again. I'm done redoing my arcs for now though.
Yes the gripe is valid, but I don't see it being resolved until the devs give us a stable platform to work on, which should have done from the start.

If an arc is unplayable due to patch woes... it should be flagged so that it doesn't show up in the search options AND a note sent to the email address of record.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

That's a nice idea. I found out my previously working long arc was unplayable do to some kind soul sending me feedback. I discovered that the map I used for the last mission was removed. It would have been nice to discover this in some more informative way. It wasn't one of the typical farm maps and I have yet to understand why it was removed.

You win the internets, sir. Nicely done.
And for a while things were cold,
They were scared down in their holes
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines

Some maps were removed for bugs, not farm issues. For example, I believe the burning forest map was removed because of a spawn point that occurred mid-air, which only fliers could reach.
Hopefully, when the bugs are fixed, these maps will be re-implemented.

QFT - hell, they send two e-mails out each time you /bug something, so I don't see why this wouldn't be doable.

Maybe the powers that be are hoping that the shiny "Architect Edition" boxes will bring in as many as they lose. Maybe they're looking farther down the road and hoping "Going Rogue" will bring in fifty times that many new players.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem I see with that concept is that "Going Rogue" is going to appeal to current players, not NEW players who havent tried either hero or villain, so they don't even know that certain archetypes are limited, etc. You lose the current base, then Going Rogue will have the resale value of a new expansion to Star Wars Galaxies or Tabula Rasa.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I'll agree that I think MOST of the appeal is going to be for existing players, you can't deny that they talked up Mission Architect to get a buzz going, and it seemed as though there were a bunch of allegedly new players using MA in the early days.
Frankly, I was kind of surprised that they printed a shiny new box to put (hopefully) shiny new CD's or DVD's into, but there they were at my computer store, sitting on the shelf. The experts figured that those would reach new customers as well.
I'm not sure if "Going Rogue" is going to get its own shiny new cardboard box (printing cardboard boxes can't be THAT expensive) but I'm sure they'll get some sort of buzz going about it, too.
"Never before in an MMO...."
"Walk the line between good and evil...."
"Superhero, supervillain, or....vigilante?"
"Answer to no one. Choose your own destiny."
Blah blah, blah blah blah. THEY have professionals to write that stuff, whose job IS to bring in new people.
Are they any GOOD at it, though? I guess we'll find out.
