After 5 years, asking for name help

I have a TA/A defender named Doombow who has languished since bows first became available, simply because I don't really care for the name. Concept-wise, the character is an Old World monster hunter (vampires, werewolves, etc.), a Bosnian who has recently relocated to Paragon.

I'd love to be able to get into playing the character and unlocking teh awesomesauce that is Trick Arrow. I've played him to level 10 or 15, deleted him, and then rerolled several times, all for lack of the perfect name. Any ideas?

What Server is Doombow on? A few of the servers have name threads, and it's a lot easier to give advice for a new character name when folks can check its availability on the character's home server.

Oh, then you're in luck! Virtue has an excellent thread, "The Virtue Name Watch". You're sure to get some suggestions there. The more info you provide about your character, the better; it is admittedly difficult to come up with a name that's very spot-on in re: powers/weapons (Arrowgirl, Bowman, etc.). Adding a bit of your character's "flava" into the name will make it unique, interesting, and hopefully, spark some platonic man/polygon love.

I know he's Bosnian, but how about Bogen-nacht or Bogenacht, which literally translates from German to "Bow of the night" or "Bow of the darkness"?

Couple ideas spring to mind:

The "Jean Grey" approach: You super-hero name is your real name. To that end find out common Bosnian first and last names.

The "Wild Bill" appproach: Some sort of descriptive adjective combined with your characters first and/or last name. Other variation on this are Occupation Name.

The "foreign language" approach: Similar to what The_Player suggested. Translate what you want the name to be in English to the character's native language.

Also it tends to help if you know you want to have your character's name as one word or two. You might be able to get away with a hypenated name if you idea is already taken. Generally Two-word hero names seem to be more viable.

The important thing to ask yourself is "Does this name reminds me of my character? If it doesn't then it's too generic for what your concept is."

"Steady as a mountain, attack like fire, still as a wood, swift as the wind.
In heaven and earth I alone am to be revered."
- Motto on the war banner of Takeda Shingen (1521-1573)

I've considered Option 1, but if he has a real name he hasn't old it to me. Option 2 doesn't seem appropriate. I have several characters named under Option 3, and no one has ever "gotten" them, ever.

Still thinking, and thanks for the input!

Name your character for your own enjoyment, not for others. You'll be happier that way.

Similar to option 3 is to pick an obscure cultural or literary reference that nobody will get unless you explain it in your description.

(<--- ahem)

In that spirit I suggest a variation on Baron Vordenburg, the lesser known inspiration for the more famous Van Helsing.
