You might try getting more up to date sound drivers. Creative updates them fairly often. Also, unless you use Steam every day, set it so it doesn't start every time. (Open up Steam, look under view, select Settings, go to the Interface tab, and clear the checkbox toward the bottom.)
I doubt its anything on your end. My computer has had the exact same issues that just started after I14, game worked flawlessly before that.
Something in I14 is causing these problems and they need to fix it.

<sigh> Every time we get an update, somebody comes to this conclusion. Nevermind the fact that 80,000 people are playing just fine, if it happened about the time an issue came out, it MUST be the issue's fault. We've even had people claim that the pre-update download is causing their problems!
Might also have something to do with the fact that people who played just fine without any problems of any kind BEFORE i14 are now having all sorts of issues AFTER i14...yeah, that sounds like a problem on the user's end...

[/ QUOTE ] and more content from an Issue release means that people who had border-line systems (and/or performance on their system) before the Issue release.. will then sink below a tolerable level once the Issue is released. That's not necessarily the programmers fault either.
I'm not saying the game doesn't have it's problems from time to time.. but the fact that so many people don't have the problem.. means there is something else on those systems that is having a conflict with the new software. Sure.. maybe the CoX Devs could do some digging to find out what it might be, and put something in to possibly prevent it.. but they can't do that without your bug reports detailing what hardware you have, and what software you use.. and what you have done on your side already to try to correct the problem. Even then.. I don't think putting fixes in for specific external hardware of software issues should be their responsibility... .. although I do believe the minimum requirements they advertise for the game should have been updated a LONG time ago.
I've actually had this problem a few times since I started playing again this week.
I'm just glad it wasn't in the middle of something important the times it did happen to me.
Knock on wood.

Well considering my computer is dual core 3 Ghz with 256 MB high end video card I seriously doubt its any settings on my end...
Numerous people have been reporting frequent Map Server Disconnects and random crashing. Hell its become common for many of my friends to crash and when you log back in find you are half a mile or more away from where you crashed in a random building i've never been in before.
80,000 people aren't playing it fine. I've had my entire team crash out all at once several times. It's a common occurence to enter an AE mission with 8 people and be down to 4-5 by the time everyone loads.

[/ QUOTE ] Crashing and disconnecting are 2 very different things. If you are experiencing the server instability which is causing lag, and whole teams or zones to drop at times... then yes it's a problem on their end... that doesn't quite sound like the same thing the OP is talking about.
As for your uber-fast system.. that's what everybody says (until they provide us with more info and we find out they have an older driver installed, or the hard drive is full, or they have another program running in the background, etc)
Also.. keep in mind that CoH still might not officially "support" Vista. So if you are using Vista and having a problem.. they have no obligation to fix your problem and you are at your own risk anyway.
Both happens. I get both the City of heroes has encountered an error and pops up window to enter what I was doing when it occured, map server disconnects, complete server crashes where everyone in zone is kicked off, etc.
I posted my spec's here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat....=2#Post13418385
There is no reason to have issues like I am having, and like I said CoH has run flawlessly on my computer before I14. Never crashed once.
Also as far as them potentially not supporting Vista that would be one of the stupidest moves they can make. Especially as you have to fight to get a new computer without vista.

Going to try a few Windows Vista fixes later tonight. Apparently my drivers might be too new. The whole vista thread seems to be indicating that City of Heroes doesn't work well with newer drivers and going to OLDER drivers fixes the issues which is a laugh.

Funny, I have had NO crashes in CoX since I8. Guess that means it's fixed, right? My point, don't assume just because you are or are not having issues, that EVERYONE ELSE (or even a majority is experincing the same thing).
Well there are about 10 thread in first 3 pages just on this issue alone, plus this big thread filled with people with the same issue - http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat....part=1&vc=1
All from people who seem to have had no problems BEFORE the update. These posts combined with the fact i have numerous teammates in AE missions crash daily tends to prove there IS an issue, it might not effect everyone but it IS effecting people who had no problems before it.
I already went ahead and set my account to not auto-renew. Hopefully rolling back to older drivers fixes this because right now the game is unplayable when i crash every 15 minutes.

Yep, it's crash after crash after crash for me. I havent been able to stay in more than 2-3 mins before a crash occurs. As far as the last couple days, I cant even get past the character selection screen.
Everything was fine before the recent update. Well....not fine, as I still had some crash issues here and there, but was more than playable. Now is pointless to try to log in. Account being canceled because of this. Drivers dont seem to be the issue, as I tried about 4-5 of them over the last 2 days. Have tried new and old. Doesnt seem to matter now, all I do is crash regardless of driver version.
I disabled Vista UAC and it works flawlessly now. Kind of a lame workaround, but eh.

CoH keeps going to a white screen and Vista says that it is not responding. This happens quite often, but so far unpredictably. It seems not to matter what I am doing or how long I have been playing. I have used the Vista fix mentioned in other threads and that hasn't helped. I have not tried other video drivers yet to see if that helps. CoHHelper and HiJackthis coming. Thanks for any help in advance.
