To be honest if you are a soldier you are going to buff her with all of your leadership toggles. If she likes the Controller/Defender route then she will want to go Fortunata, but if she likes Scrapper/Stalkers then Night Widow all the way. You will want to go the path of a Crab because a Bane Spider will not really be anything other than a Stalker with less defense/resistance.
Since you will be ranged based I would say it would be better for her to go Fortunata since they too are ranged and she will always be in your toggle radius to get the most from Assault, Maneuvers, and Tactics.

I agree also. Coming from a long line of scrapping, i figured i'd love the Night Widow form, BUT Fortunata is sick. Psychic Wail simply owns and if anything is standing, you have 3 nice AoE powers and Total Domination or a Confuse Aura. It's a beast of a toon.

For truth! It won't matter what you two play as long as you take the leadership maneuvers early, and the widow picks up mind link. Even the "squishy" bane can get nice defense numbers with another SoA close by. I really don't think you can go wrong with any combo. Play what you like, and remember dual builds are your friend!
My wife and I recently attained our first 50's on the Villain side and instantly rolled a pair of SoA's (I went Soldier, she went Widow). We're still getting our feet wet and experiencing a lot of the pre-24 growing pains and our minds are not 100% made up on what to do with our advanced career paths.
Since we're still up in the air we'd like to hear ideas on what pair of SoA's work good together, have great synergy, and most of all just have a ton of fun. We predominantly duo (98% of the time) but aren't opposed to teaming if the mood is right.
