the amazing effects were wonderful. Enterprise looks sleek and new.
Gene Roddenberry's years are over its not about black and white but it enters into grey areas like BSG.

use to repeat same old story. The crew the enemys.romulan borg klingon, 1984 etc...
STar Trek (2009)
is starfleet academy ( using new actors)
As a story idea, this is sort of brilliant and saves on invention, because young Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty and the rest is like a warm coffee in front of a hot fire.
Problems
a black hole is,not done correctly
lifeboats can save the crew, despite the vast distance from home base.
Chris Pine, as James Tiberius Kirk does well chews scenery just right but.....he looks a little small to be JT Kirk.
Special Effects
The special effects are great.
In Closing
I understand it is not real..
BUT the character types areso good you forget its not the original cast.
The new movie essentially intends to reboot the franchise with younger characters and carry on as before. The movie deals with Space opera and they do a GREAT JOB

Went and saw this Friday night. I concur 100%, this movie earned an A.

I am in many ways a Star trek Purist. Whie TNG was okay, it never held me the way the original series did. DS9 was meh, Voyager was WTF?
I fully expected some kind of rehash with a reset to the old meme at the end but they way they reset the universe allows for alot of freedom in future movies while holding true to the spirit. And yes, while the original series was more story oriented and this version seems more action, it is a change I personally approve of.

I saw the film last Saturday and enjoyed it immensely. There were plenty of nods to "classic" moments, straight down to the Red Shirt's ugly demise.

The less it's mentioned (in general) the better. 
Technically, since it happens before the events of the Original Series, which is what this one deals with... presumably nothing's changed; the movie, however, doesn't even really acknowledge the existence of Bakula's series.

I liked Enterprise too. To me it kind of felt a bit like the original series, except they seemed determined to give them an ongoing enemy like in later series... Certainly it was better than Voyager, possibly better than DS9. No no.. you guys explore. We'll stay here on this station and let the adventure come to us.

Actually, the 'enterpriase series (which I have never watched and thus have no comment on) was acknowledged. A friend pointed out to me that Scotty is on the ice planet due to attempting to beam someone's beagle from one planet to another, and the begal never showed up. I was given to understand that said beagle was the pet of Scott Bacula's character in Enterprise.
Ugh. I missed that line, and now I know of it, it saddens me. Enterprise, even on its best days, barely got to the levels of TOS/TNG/DS9's worst--and they had plenty of bad ones.
Well, I'm glad they kept references to the established continuity at a minimum--it works better that way, since they can re-do and ignore a lot of the cruft that's been built up over the years.

Yes. That was Enterprise at its best, and it was about as good as a mediocre to bad DS9 or TNG episode.
What's sadder still is that they had to go into a wholly different universe to get to that level, disconnected to any previous story arcs, and never really visited it again.

supporting actors don't have much to do;
