The indicators are for load. So you're on the servers which are working harder (and more likely to get capped during an event.) Though you should know that by now. 
Personally, I avoided them for the most part. I'm on every server. Pinnacle sounded good, when I started (and I was right!) so I started there, and soon moved to every server.
Though, Tartyr, I'm not sure how you're saying that when your "Loc" says "Guardian server." >.>

I thought that meant the online population, more or less.. measuring how full the server was with people playing on that server ...

..I changed it back to freedom server... dunno how that happened .. unless Moderator Zero was playing footsie with my setting when the boards when down... hmm...
anyway.. more people = easier finding teams to join...
course if theres a server with more people on it then the one im on.. then I WILL move everyone over to it..

About the only time you find me of Freedumb, is when I am there to join friends specifically.
Every, single time I have been over there otherwise, I have experienced petitionable offenses. So I avoid Freedumb whenever possible.
And Bill is right, it's the load on the server, not the population. And quite frankly, I never have a problem finding teams, and my home server is Protector, though I spend a lot of time with friends over on Justice.
well if it means server load and NOT population on the server, then maybe moving to another server would be nice.. err.. I think most people on the art forum are on justice server.. right?...
..bah, I got two lvl 50's and not once have I joined any guild so far
Tartyr, what I recommend is that you pick a server, then go roll a new character and play on it for a while. Don't uproot your established character's and cart them off to a new server without first testing the waters.
Though I spend most of my time on Protector and Justice, like Bill, I have characters on every server, don't ask me why, but I do.

My SG transferred servers about 3 months ago from Freedom to Pinnacle. We all rolled new toons on different servers to test the waters, joined chat channels and got a feel for the people. We all agreed that Pinn was our new home.
We haven't regretted one minute of it

There's also programs like Glycerine or HeroStats or Xfire or the like that allow one to display if one's online and all as well

Although server load is very closely related to server population.
I feel like the odd chica out, I signed up for infinity cause my friend was there, and well, I think it's the perfect spot ^.^
Not too full, but not too sparse. Though I do have alts on most of the other servers as well as two toons I copied cross servers.

BTW, I've recently joined an all-Kheldian SG on Infinity. Thursday evenings seem to be the time they try to get together for something. I'm sure you'd be more than welcome, if you're interested. All-Kheldian teams are quite interesting.
And Pinnacle is my "main" main server. If you're on there, look me up - I have both hero- and villain-side SGs there.

There's also the possibility of making a group on Steam and having chat through them.

We once created a SG for the art forum, grouping the collectors and the artist.
The SG is the envisionaries on Liberty (heroes) and the Dark Envisionaries, still on Liberty for villains.

The SG on Infinity is called Umbral Illuminati. As I mentioned, Thursday evenings seem to be the night most of them have decided to group there.
Look me up at @DarkEther or @Dark Ether, my two accounts, and I can invite you, or just ask a member if you see one - I think it's set so all can invite. The only requirement I know is to be a Kheldian of some sort.

Sparse be the Virtuites it seems. I'm all alone Maybe a higher load server, but I've never had reason to complain since day one.

My global is in my sig ... but the problem I have on liberty is that most people play heroes and mine is WS .. kinda hard to solo ... so I have a tendency to play my villain more and I find it lonely sometimes.

everytime I loggin to the game... freedom and virtue servers are the only ones with two yellow dots on them.. all the others have one green dot...
so naturally I play the higher servers.. dose everyone do this or am I in a different time zone??
