My Boss turned into a Leut...? And other questions

All,

Few questions as I try to fine-tune my Magnum Opus, “The Running of the Bulls.”

There is a custom group, Battle Cattle. The group contains 4 minions, 1 Lieutenant, 1 Boss, and 4 Elite Bosses. I also use a Devouring Earth Elite Boss and rename it (the one I use is Devoured Pyriss, only one in the level range).

We ran the mission with 6-7 of us on the team. In the first mission, the Boss I’d created was turned into a Leut and was walking around with the wandering patrols. He appeared in each mission thereafter as well, mixed in with the spawns.

So why did this happen? Was it because the gave engine really wanted a second Leut to add to the spawns, and couldn’t find one, so it used the next best thing available? If I promote one of the minions to a Leut, will this not happen again?

On the last mission, there were 4 Bosses spawned (ones that I’d made myself). This surprised me, as I’d created them as Elite Bosses. When I tested the mission solo, they were Elite Bosses. But with a team of 7, they were just Bosses.

Furthermore, the Elite Boss I used in the mission (and re-named) also spawned as a boss. Just a boss.

Any ideas?

Also,

I want to edit the costume of a particular character in my custom group. Do I need to edit the custom group then re-publish the arc?

The rank changes seem very unusual; I know that when you solo on Heroic most bosses get downgraded to LTs just like AVs get downgraded to EBs on small teams. One of my friends tried to convert a mission her had on test to live and a bunch of his custom characters got borked, but not much personal experience with that.

I CAN offer one big tip for making sure that special encounter enemies STAY as special encounters and do not accidentally mingle with the rest of the ordinary grunts, though. If they're just another boss in the custom faction, the game doesn't know that they shouldn't be a valid type to pull random bosses from, so create new enemy factions with only the desired custom enemies, and only use them as boss encounters (or guardians of some other objective or something).

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

Interesting.

I've noticed that when I made custom bosses and set them up as the "boss to beat" at the end that they get mixed into regular mobs with minions and LTs on higher levels as bosses. Why doesn't the engine just spawn more minions and LTs? Do I have to create another boss for it to drop on the map to avoid using my "real" boss?

Anyone know why this happens?

You have to make your special boss a part of a separate custom group than the main group in the mission, or he'll show up mixed in with the regular mobs. It's like if you're running a "normal" Freakshow mission and you have to defeat a named Freak Tank boss at the end. You may be fighting generic Freak Tank bosses all through the missions, and there's no difference between any of them and the end boss but name, because they're all part of the "Freakshow" faction.

As far as bosses downgrading to lt's even on teams... that's definitely happening. It looks like MA arcs only take into consideration the difficulty setting of the leader and ignores team sizes when deciding whether to spawn the boss as a boss or a lt. This is unlike "normal" missions, where you'll get bosses with a big enough team size despite what difficulty setting you're running the mission on.

Well I set my custom Boss to Easy Elite Boss and then he spawned as a boss when I ran the mission solo. I have no idea what he will spawn as with a full group. And yes I made him his own custom group so he would not appear with the rest of the mobs.

Hm, we appear to be having drop issues on teams, xp issues on teams, and scaling issues on teams. I wonder if these are all related to the same segment of code that's screwed up.
