Creating a "Trash/Junk" Costume?
[ QUOTE ]
My latest character concept is for a Brute golem, who's costumes are going to vary as he levels up based on different materials. His initial costume was going to be a "trash golem" composed of basically random junk.
The secondary is going to be /Shield, so the obvious choice there is the manhole cover, but I'm having a really hard time making a convincing 'this thing is a pile of walking junk' costume.
If anyone has any suggestions on various parts I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!
[/ QUOTE ]Robotic Arm option that gives you just one robotic arm. Use Steampunk as that's the most grungy looking of the arm choices, then use something else for his other hand, or use Steampunk again, but color it differently than the arm/hand combo. Chains are good, there's at least one asymmetrical chain look for chests that I think would work fairly well for a character, like it's the only thing holding his torso together. I think there should be a chain in shoulder options, but I don't know if those are usable with the one robotic arm function, as it may clip with shoulder bits.
Well, this inspired me to go give such an idea a try... Hehe, and I enjoyed that.
I forgot about the fact you said it was for a shield brute... I'll have to go back and see what that looks like (I think the shield should add another cool element to it overall).
Anyways, it is hard to not look more like a robot being patched up with spare bits than pure junk... but here's what I got!
Junk-Bot
At the time I made the collage, I wasn't sure about a few options, so I included a few.
The belt: I like the chain wrap one best, but the enforcer and the cyborg belts work well as a welded connector piece.
And the shoulders: I like the gladiator shoulders here for the asymmetrical design.
The heavy neckchain also looks kind of cool, so I included that one as well.
Anyways, best of luck. This just sounded too fun not to try, hehe.
If only I had been inspired sooner, I could have entered it into Naz's contest!

One thing to create disparity between all the parts and make them seem to come from different sources would be to make sure each one has a different color style to it.

My 50s:
Hero: Armor Assassin (scrapper), Cross Dresser (scrapper), Surly Seaman (blaster), Defensive End (Tank), Rad Rhino (Cont)
Villain: Beast Infection (Corr), Sweet Zombie Jesus (MM), Milk Weasel (Stalker), Orgullo (MM), Agent Eris (Crab)
Ok I gave it my best shot too. Working from comments other people made and adding my own ideas. I tried to go for different colors without using any very bright colors, since I wanted an overall rusty/old/used look.
1. Asymmetrical is good. There aren't many such options. Robotic Arm 3 (right arm) is one. One com on the helmet, one eye piece, gladiator shoulders. those are options. I also went with the ragged kilt here because although it may not seem logical for a robot to have one, it's about the only ragged or asymmetrical item I can think of for below the waist, and it works well for a homeless / junky look. Maybe trenchcoat with tattered coattails could work just as well.
2. Camo pattern can work well for rust or dried blood. I used that on the torso.
3. I really like the massive gear shoulders for a junky kind of look.
4. A wrench mace looks good. ^_^ Also for aesthetic reasons I went with the ghost slaying axe and the nemesis staff. I kind of liked the look of him pulling different things from his back, it sort of enhanced the overall concept for me.

I'll just show my long-time "junk" robot character (she's essentially a destroyed robot who sat on a junk heap for years, and then was resurrected by magic when Dark Astoria was overrun by the Pantheon)

But yeah, it's not too hard to make these kind of characters, they can be a lot of fun too!

Above Mars Part 1: The Wellington: ID 159769 - Save Mars by destroying a monstrous battleship from the inside!

Wow, guys, those are some fantastic looking trashbots. So much inspiration. <3
I'm on my third or fourth iteration of this costume without actually making the character! XD When I settle on one I'll definitely post some screenies.

Those are some kicking costumes!
Not one of my costumes, but the toon in the middle won first place in a CC I threw.
