Ask Agent Ruby: Will I be able to run the Palit Radeon HD 3850 SUPER+ 1GB Video Card running Windows XP and not Vista?

[/ QUOTE ]
Hi Starwind - absolutely! That is a great card, regardless of XP or Vista!

Agent Ruby: Pie or Cake?

[/ QUOTE ]
Calash, this is a complex question that requires serious thought, so it's not something that I want to answer in a frivolous way, as you deserve an honest answer.

But that said, I'll go with pie every time. Cake is too dry, and doesn't go well with ice cream.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm curious as to these improvements you speak of. While there may have been performance ups and downs over time, I've come across no functional changes that have resolved any of the known issues nor have I ever seen any of them listed in the patch notes for the new Catalyst packages over the past near four years.

Be well, people of CoH.

Tell Agent Ruby: I am really happy you changed costumes. The one you had on last night was lame.

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed, the jacket look works much better, and I can hide more swords in it.

Ask Agent Ruby: What kind of product do you put in your hair to make it withstand all those explosions without so much as moving?

[/ QUOTE ] It's actually a hair helmet.

Sorry you had to arrive at such a tumultuous time in the game.

About the only two worse times might have been the GDN and ED.

Other than that, welcome, hope you enjoy the game!

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks, but to be honest, it's been a lot of fun! Meeting everyone on the servers has been so cool, and I'm looking forward to doing more tonight and tomorrow.

Ask Agent Ruby: Heroes Or Villains? Both maybe?

Seems to me you a bit of both with hair like hero, clothes like villain, and attitude of mercenary! If you not want to disclose secret I understand ^.~ But don't think i am going let you parade around looking like that all the time. Come seeing me again and lets change up your look!

Love,

Ask Agent Ruby: Whoah, partnership with AMD? Does that mean that NVIDIA support will slowly disappear and you will only be able to play the game in the future with an ATI card?

Ask Agent Ruby:

One of the things that many players will want to ask you about is the difficulties with in the past is using some of the higher-end effects, such as High water effects, FSAA Depth of Field, and other settings with ATI graphics cards in general. Do these settings still cause problems with City of Heroes/ Villains? If so, are they being addressed?

Thanks for stopping by our forums!

[/ QUOTE ]

Great question - there are some things still being tackled, but being a CoH player myself, I can tell you that there have been a lot of improvements over time. A few things to point out:

First, AMD releases a new CATALYST driver every month with performance and feature improvements, so it's always a good idea to keep your drivers up to date

Second, we have a great support program through our "Catalyst Crew" program - the Crew is a group of dedicated (some would say fanatical ) Catalyst testers who put our drivers through the ringer regularly, and test against as much as they can. They also try to reproduce as many issues that are submitted as possible, and you can submit any issues you encounter HERE.

Finally, our Catalyst Control Center (CCC) has a number of options you can optimize to change things like AA, AF and a number of other features, which sometimes helps in improving performance and image quality. There are also some good resources on our website on how to optimize CCC for a better gaming experience.

[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, new drivers have been tried. MANY new drivers. Same with CCC settings. Please understand, these problems have been going on for at least three YEARS now.

The Catalyst Crew sounds good, maybe they can get the ball rolling and a fix can be found. But right here, right now, and for the past three years, your cards have not been able to do Full Screen Anti-Aliasing and use the high end graphic options like high detail water effects at the same time.

So my question is - why would we buy one of these cards when <ahem> the other company makes cards that can use the high end options?

(Sorry for such a pointed question but this has been going on for years and instead of sending an engineer they sent a saleswoman. I myself suffered through this problem for a year and half. Coming in here to try and sell us a product with that still going on is galling to say the least.)

Hi Agent Ruby,

Here in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, heroes and villains have a wardrobe of costumes to pick from. I see you haven't maximized your wardrobe as of yet. So I would ask/suggest that if you offer another contest, it should be to give YOU a costume makeover -- are you game?! Don't be afraid it won't hurt,...much!

[/ QUOTE ]
I LOVE that idea - the response to this contest (especially the in-game visits to Pocket D) has been great, so I hope we can do another contest down the line and give away some more goodies.

I know you're probably tired of hearing this question but I'm not sure how you're replying to these questions sooo...

Ask Agent Ruby: I have Radeon ATI 3600 series HD Card on 3 gigs of ram and a 2.6ghz quad core AMD processor. Not sure about the motherboard - windows vista 32 bit. I know people on systems with inferior (by comparison to my card's potential) NVidia cards and 1/3rd the memory I have on windows XP that can get to enjoy the maximum visual affects that this game has to offer. I get a reduced framerate and buggy water effects instead. Will ATI, given their new partnership, address these issues any time soon?

[/ QUOTE ]
Hi Sithus - yes, these issues are being looked at to see how they can be addressed. I don't have a timeline yet, but as we make improvements, we'll be providing updates to the Community managers so that they can let everyone know. Being a CoH player myself, I understand where you're coming from and I hope you'll stick with us while we try to improve the CoH/CoV experience for the community.

Ruby,
Welcome to Paragon City, Rhode Island, and the Etoile Islands! Do you expect ATI support for the long-standing compatibility issues with CoX, or are things more or less going to stay as they are?

Welcome to the forums, I enjoyed meeting you in Pocket D on Pinnacle. May your journey through CoX be a pleasurable one! I look forward to seeing the winners of the server Contest.

My question to you is, what do you think of CoX ?

[/ QUOTE ]
Hi EnnVee - the truth is, I've been playing CoX since it launched - I am a huge comic book geek, and when this game was first announced I was bouncing off the walls in anticipation. I mainly play on Guardian, and about 6 months ago finally got my first level 50 toon (while I love CoX, I am the world's worst player). I've been part of a pretty large SG the entire time I've been playing, and I play mainly on the CoH side. I have CoV and jump in from time to time, but I'm too much of a goody two-shoes (whatever that means). It's hard to find a game where the devs care as much as they do here, and the content updates are amazing. Although I play a lot of other games, for me nothing comes close to overall the CoX experience.

Hi Ruby!

It was nice to have met you very briefly on Virtue when the comic photoshoot with Back Alley Brawler was prepping. Since you said that you have been playing CoX since launch, what would you say is your favorite archetype on each side of the coin?

Ashes to ashes,
Pheonyx

Welcome to the Forums! Of DOOOM!

Glad to see somone on the tech end making themselves so accessible
Like any true hero would.

Ehh...questions...questions...Do you think the Phillies would repeat as WS champs if every game were 3 innings long?

Follow up question: What would you name Paragon City professional sports team and which sport would you prefer?

I love how she didn't touch the NVIDIA questions, either of them... heh.

Ask Agent Ruby: Hi there. By chance has a representative of AMD/ATI read this thread in the tech forum which details all the long standing incompatibilities between CoH/V and ATI's drivers?

Followup: What course of action are AMD and NCNC taking in order to make this particular gaming experience less of a problematic hassle for those that currently own ATI video cards?

[/ QUOTE ]
Hi there - and thanks for your question! I've addressed this in a couple of posts already, but let me assure you we are going to try to address these issues! Also, thanks for pointing out the thread - I have shared it with some folks internally to use as another reference point.

Ask Ruby,

above me and,

I have always wondered this. I have the same card mentioned above, the ATI 3600 HD (thats what it says) but its supossed to be the overclocked vertion. The 3650, BUT, it doesnt say the 3650, it says the 3600 when I check my hardware. And also in the part you can overclock the card more in the ATI controls, when you unlock it, it wont let you put it where it is supossed to be.And that is at 800 and 400. It says and stays at 724 and 396. The card is supossed to be at 800 and 400 minimum and it is supossed to be a 3650. Also, when I go to get drivers for the card on the AMD/ATI site I can never find the 3650, only the 3600 drivers.

Can you please tell me why this is? If not here hopfully in a PM so it doesnt get lost in the forum mess this will end up becoming lol.

Thanks in advance, Whiteseeker

[/ QUOTE ]
Hi Whiteseeker - the 3650 is part of the ATI Radeon HD 3600 family, so when you check in Catalyst Control Center it will list the family and not the specific variant, and that's how it's listed (by family) when you're looking for a driver as well. As for the changing the clocks, I assume you're using the OverDrive feature - I apologize but I don't have details around this to be able to answer correctly. I would recommend you check out our Catalyst Crew Feedback Program and submit this issue, or if you've registered your product, you can also submit this to our Customer Care program. Hope this helps!

You come to a fork in the road. On the left is a dark and heavily forested area. On the right, the path leads down to what appears to be a cave entrance. Which do you take?

*That's right, I ask the tough questions!!*

[/ QUOTE ]
Well, where do we start? First we can take a step back and tackle the basic philosophical question of freedom, which fundamentally asks whether we truly have free will? But I don't think there is enough room in this thread to go down that road (pun intended). I could choose not to go down either path, but as the American philosopher, William James, put it, “When you have to make a choice and don't make it, that is in itself a choice.” So, I would say the forested area, because even when you enter it you will still decide your direction, whereas the cave will lead you.

...That, and I get really freaked out by caves.

Sorry Philotic, I gotta ask the same question. Ruby will this ATI partenership mean those of use who spent money on NVIDIA cards are SOL? If it does, I may not be able to keep playing this game which would be sad for me. The year I've been on has been a great time.
