The CSS is borked for the Dirk Interview's second page. The text bleeds to the other column and the pic of Lord Raecluse is covering text.

no comic again this week? maybe i missed something in the scoop, but hopefully it will return eventually.

I'm almost to the point of telling people that the Scoop is best viewed in a standards-compliant browser. Internet Explorer just plain sucks.

May I suggest you try Firefox, Opera, or Google Chrome?

I doubt that the page can get fixed before Monday. I'll see what I can do.

Edit:
Actually Internet Explorer isn't having an issue with the CSS. Apparently it is not working correctly with the age old standard Table tag. It is MS's faulty display, not the html that is the culprit here.

To be less of a smart alec, there are people out there with jobs that let them surf the net, but not install whatever latest and greatest browser with the three hundred plugins required for an "ideal" browsing experience.

In defense of Snow_Globe (wow, that feels weird to type), it's not like every browser is vastly different, and he's saying that you should install one specific version of one specific browser. Being a developer o' web sites, I feel his pain. We either choose to have our stuff work with various versions of Internet Explorer, or we choose to have it work with Firefox, Safari, Opera, Konquerer, Chrome, and every other browser out there. Given that the latter is typically easier and much more standardized, it's kind of a no-brainer.

I'm sorry that your company has decided to use a broken, bug-ridden browser as its standard. My company has done the same. As a result, many of our Intranet pages are broken in various ways, and now, we can't even upgrade to IE 7 because of all of the dependencies on the manners in which they're broken. Fortunately, my company does allow us to install Firefox, thanks to some of our third-party apps depending on browsers that actually adhere to standards. If yours doesn't, that really sucks, but seriously man, it's not the City Scoop's fault that something doesn't work right, and if you're going to be mad, at least be mad at the right people.

And P.S., pretty much any version of Firefox will work, since it has at least tried to adhere to web standards (unlike IE) since before version 1.0, and you don't even need a single plug-in installed.

EnnVee, are those really the costs? In the case of "Shoot The Messenger", this would be "Give the messenger 10 million influence"! Just kidding, but seriously ready to make an Uber base now!

Actually, I found the specific property of the tables that caused IE to go haywire. I've made the corrections available to the forum moderators. Given how busy they are, it might be a while before they are corrected.

Meanwhile for those who insist that they will only use IE:

As to "discussing politics": I suggested only that people use any other browser than IE, and gave other options to view it.

I know for a fact that you can get a version of Firefox that will run self contained on a usb key. I just checked and there are usb versions of the others as well.

Your interesting statistics for the day, a breakdown of browsers used to access the Paragon Wiki:

Firefox: 47.8%
IE: 44%
Safari: 4.3%
Opera: 2.3%
Mozilla: 1%
Everything else: 0.6% (Netscape, Multizilla, Konquerer, Unknown)

I just take exception to the notion that suggesting that folks use Firefox is strange in any way. I'm pretty sure the Paragon Wiki works great in pretty much any browser, but if I ever have to choose one to target, it won't be IE, and that won't be because of politics or because I'm some sort of zealot. (Not that I ever expect to have to.)

First off, Thanks Snow_Globe for an alernate IE viewing source.

Secondly, I have been back in college, training in Web Architecture and programming. I fully agree that IE is a [I can't find a word strong enough to describe my frustration] headache. I hate tables and CSS, and try to do everything in standards compliant XHTML.

I use Maxthon, an IE clone. I've tried to use FF but it just feels weird. I also don't want to hunt down 300 plug ins to let it do all the things I do with Maxthon.

Now the part that's irritating is that we've had the Scoop for how long now and this is the first time I have ever seen a page glitch in IE. Regardless, I wish MS would just go compliant and be done with it.

As for people being ticked off and getting heated about the Scoop being borked in IE, I was just letting you know of the problem. I personally have no emotion tied up in it. I just view the source and read from there if I really need to.

There have been a few here and there, but generally we catch them before the Scoop goes out. We're doing a lot less corrections these days. Mostly it is padding/spacing that causes a problem. It was a larger issue before we got the .CSS sheet working (which is why I knew it wasn't a CSS error).

Like I said, I'm still a student and learning. I figured it was the CSS, but as soon as you said <table> I knew. Geesh I hate tables and know how they bork up when displaying in IE sometimes.
