How do you take a screen shot exactly?

The easiest way is to set the print screen button in the options.

That way, your screenshots will be saved in your CoH folder without having to alt tab to paint and paste them.

You can decide if you want to save the screenshots as jpeg or tga files.

All ya gotta do is hit the Print Screen key on your keyboard.

Just to clarify, as others have already said, hitting print screen will drop a picture into your screenshots folder in your installation directory. This works if you are in the 'game world' - running a mission, in your base, or standing in front of Miss Liberty.

If you want a picture of your enhancement screen, costume editor, or any other screen where you are not primarily controlling your character, when you hit print screen it copies that image to your systems clipboard. At this point you need to open an image editor, such as Microsoft Photo Editor, or MS Paint, etc., and paste a new image.

I believe, others will confirm my beliefs or my noobness, that if you have scroll lock on...it will remove the UI...if you leave scroll lock off it will leave the UI in the screenshot.

so...

tap scroll lock
tap print screen

for ui free screenies.

Not sure if it works that way 'out of the box' but you CAN bind the scroll lock key to do that.

/bind scrolllock "togglescreenshotui"

If you're using Vista that's a known issue and I think there's something about it up in the Technical Issues area.

If you're not using Vista, I don't know what it could be other than perhaps not enough RAM or something, to perform the paste.

You can set the screenshot keys under OPTIONS > Keymapping Tab.

Scroll down and find the OTHER section. The first settings you'll see are for screenshots. From there you can set change the keys that take the screenshots to whatever you like.

Remember that screenshots go into the screenshots folder in the City of Heroes program file.

On Vista they'll be buried in a file under My Documents (as Vista fakes the program into putting user-related stuff there instead of the 'communal' game folder).

[/ QUOTE ]Vista users have to use a screen-grabber currently if they want to paste screenshots into an image editor. (Just because it's moderately common in the CoX world, Fraps does do screen grabs, if you have it already you don't have to go looking for something else.)
